NYFW Front Row Report: Kelly Rowland Hits JC Obando

Despite freezing temperatures on Thursday, New York's gratin of editors and socialites schleped with grace to JC Obando's fall 2014 show at the historic, grand Academy Mansion on the Upper East Side. It was dusk, the air was crisp over snowy Central Park and there was nary a free Uber car or taxi in sight. But the fashion flock was put in a good mood by the 75-foot wide, 1921 palace, romantic flower arrangements and a wonderful woodsy jasmine scent conjured by chic perfumery 12.29.

And Obando -- who in 2013 earned $100 000 and a mentorship as a runner-up to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund -- launched his dreamy silk-satin and chiffon based collection in front of an ecstatic Kelly Rowland.

The former Destiny Child's singer, currently in preparations for her wedding to longtime manager Tim Witherspoon ("small and simple," she says), was posing for a last photo by her chauffeured black car, happy to linger a bit and to share her impressions: "I am an early fan of Juan Carlos and I loved this collection. I loved all the blushed tones," the performer told Pret-a-Reporter. Rowland is a fan of the West Coast style darling indeed, having worn a blouse and skirt ensemble by the designer to Wednesday night's AmFar Gala.

While we don't know whether or not Rowland plans on wearing an Obando creation to her upcoming nuptials, we can safely assume that she will be sporting his work again soon. Why?

"If you wear these clothes on a red carpet, you are assured to rule the world,"

Spoken like a true Beyonce comrade, indeed.
