The Originals is losing a major player.
Australian actress Claire Holt, who played the memorable and opinionated Original vampire Rebekah Mikaelsen, is departing The Vampire Diaries spinoff as a series regular, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
[Warning: Spoilers ahead.]
Holt's final episode, "Farewell to Storyville," aired March 11 and saw Rebekah driving off to parts unknown following a confrontation with her brother Klaus (Joseph Morgan). She is the latest departure on The Originals, which previously killed off another main character, Sophie (Daniella Pineda).

Though Holt will no longer be a core player on The Originals, the door remains open for her to return as a guest star in recurring arcs on the series. There is no indication on when she could return if the opportunity arises, but the intention is that Holt could potentially reprise her role as early as later this season or in the show's sophomore run.
Holt made a splash early in the third season of The Vampire Diaries in the 2011 episode, "The End of the Affair," which prompted an expanded presence on series and led to her as a co-lead on The Originals. She has played Rebekah for more than 50 episodes.

Just half an hour until the Tribunal of Rebekah Mikaelson. #TheOriginals. You will definitely, positively, not be able to guess how it ends.
