The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe Review: A Rerelease That Brilliantly Skewers Rereleases

The Stanley Parable was remarkable in 2013 for its subversive and silly analysis of the video game medium. But with games like OneShot, Undertale, and Crows Crows Crows’ own The Beginner’s Guide, shows like Rick and Morty, and the two Deadpool films, meta storytelling self-referential media is much more prevalent now. It’s not as special, which could potentially work against The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe. But this upgraded version of the original is smart enough to rib enhanced ports while also being a fantastic one itself, too.

Being a port means that Ultra Deluxe still contains the original 2013 version of The Stanley Parable. Many of these jokes hold up well since the things it is mocking are still present. It jabs at the meaningless nature of achievements and mostly serves as a commentary of the illusion of choice the medium offers. And since games still have achievements and offer up false choices, these barbs haven’t lost their sting, even if they aren’t quite as surprising as they were then. They’re still effective because of the quality of the writing and Kevan Brighting’s superb and boisterous performance as The Narrator where he emphatically bellows those well-written lines at the player.

The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe Review: A Rerelease That Brilliantly Skewers Rereleases

However, Ultra Deluxe doesn’t lose sight of being a rerelease. After players run through the base game a few times, a door labeled “New Content” opens up and leads to a segment that falls completely flat. The Narrator then calls out cheap video game developers for rushing out an expansion and is as profoundly disappointed as the player probably is.

But it’s all on purpose. This intentional and funny faceplant takes aim at the score of rereleases that flood the industry since many are just cheap ports of the exact same game. It even takes a shot at the buggy ones in a very Stanley Parable way (which has an excellent and rewarding payoff). Many hardly have anything new and are seemingly only meant to weaponize nostalgia, using as little as possible to squeeze money out of existing fans.

Ultra Deluxe knows this and pretends it is doing just that by disappointing them right off the bat and then defensively retreating to a physicalized manifestation of nostalgia complete with real glowing press reviews and awards the game won (and, cheekily, one it didn’t). It then shatters those rose-colored glasses by also offering up actual negative Steam reviews and, after accurately eviscerating the idea of them through an incredible monolog, it then decides to try and undo the damage done to the brand by its bad new content.

This “bad new content” is actually great new content in disguise since it is offering up what The Stanley Parable does so well: a biting and superbly written examination of the medium. By saying Ultra Deluxe is a slapdash port in a funny way and pointing out the ways in which these kinds of ports fail, it’s able to provide the content it jokingly pretends it doesn’t have since the jokes here are the content. It trades targeting the medium as a whole and the fake choices in it and hones in on rereleases instead. This change results in significantly fewer decisions to make and even though that means it doesn’t have many branches, it still works because the content that is here is built for serving other purposes.

The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe Review: A Rerelease That Brilliantly Skewers Rereleases

Yet it doesn’t just stop there. Its aforementioned attempt to make up for the broken promises of Ultra Deluxe leads to it tackling sequels and the ideas surrounding them, which opens up the door for tons of other well-constructed gags. It roasts follow-ups the same way it roasts rehashed ports by channeling its clever wit through an array of poignant jokes. All of its sequel ideas are terrible and gaudy, but, again, that’s the point. Through these ludicrously abysmal ideas, it further draws attention to the absurdity behind the game industry’s approach to sequels by dialing it up to 11 and is entertaining, if not downright hilarious, every single time.

And even though it isn’t a sequel in name, Ultra Deluxe basically is one. It adds some unexpected bits to the core The Stanley Parable experience, has whole new sections, and intelligently finds a way to reskin the base game near the end. All of this together does make Ultra Deluxe the ultimate edition it is advertised as, but enough of a sequel, too. Its hesitancy to slap a number on the box is seemingly explored through its anti-sequel segments. It’s almost as if Crows Crows Crows knew following up The Stanley Parable would be difficult, but wanted to do it anyway, knowing it could only get away with it if it had solid enough jokes and could hide it in something marketed as a port.

It’s a defense mechanism that works because The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe is crafty enough to pull it off. Even though the rudimentary visuals are undoubtedly dated, it works as a rerelease because of how accurately it translates the main game and brings it to new platforms. But it also functions as a faux sequel because of the amount of new content in it. Through its thoroughly engaging writing and cutting commentary, The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe is able to make fun of exactly what it is and get away with it, allowing the game to have its cake and eat it, too.

SCORE: 9/10

As ComingSoon’s review policy explains, a score of 9 equates to “Excellent.” Entertainment that reaches this level is at the top of its type. The gold standard that every creator aims to reach.

Sam Raimi Reflects on Why Spider-Man 4 Didn’t Happen

Sam Raimi is getting ready for the premiere of his next film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but due to the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Raimi’s past Spider-Man franchise is a big topic of conversation.

RELATED: Doctor Strange 2: Disney Refuses to Cut 12-Second Scene in Saudi Arabia

In a recent interview with Moviepilot, Raimi was asked about what a potential fourth entry in the Spider-Man franchise would have looked like. According to Raimi, they did have a script ready for the film, but due to a combination of Raimi feeling that he compromised on things for Spider-Man 3 and the script not being ready, it just never came to be.

“Oh yeah, we had a script years ago and we were actively working in pre-production. It’s just … it became a thing where there was a deadline and I didn’t want to make something that was less than great. I thought I had compromised a bit on Spider-Man 3 and I wanted to really pay the audience back on Spider-Man 4 and make the best Spider-Man of all. And I couldn’t get the script together in that amount of time. So I told Sony, ‘I think it’s best if you go ahead with your planned alternate Spider-Man storyline, because I don’t want to let the audience down.’”

When it comes to potentially making another film in the Spider-Man franchise, Raimi said that while he may not have seen it happening in the past, with the arrival and inclusion of the multiverse into the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, anything is possible.

“I didn’t think it was possible, but after jumping back in with the Multiverse, I realized that anything is possible now, so I’m completely open to it.”

Raimi’s next film will be Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which sees the return of Benedict Cumberbatch as he reprises his role as Dr. Stephen Strange. This time the Sorcerer Supreme will be joined by Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, who has finally transformed into the Scarlet Witch during the WandaVision finale.

Ubisoft Teases Skull & Bones Update After Gameplay Leaks

A video of the unreleased pirate game Skull & Bones leaked online late on April 28. And in response, Ubisoft is seemingly promising an update on the long-awaited, multiplayer-focused title.

This footage that popped up on Reddit (which has since been taken down but can be found on ResetEra) consists of four minutes taken from a technical test that Ubisoft just allegedly sent out invites for. The clip appears to be ripped directly from Ubisoft’s promotional materials, as it features a narrated tutorial video detailing many of the game’s mechanics, which the publisher does for almost all of its releases.

MORE: Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase Date Set for This Summer

Following the leak, Ubisoft took to social media, essentially acknowledging the footage as real by telling fans to “keep [their] eyes on the horizon” in a new tweet featuring a brief clip from the game. It’s unclear exactly what Ubisoft is teasing, but it seems as if the company is at least getting ready to talk more about the game that has been in development since 2013. However, Ubisoft might have already been building up to talking about the game regardless of the leak since its site was rebranded earlier this week.

According to the video, players will start out the game as a bit of an underdog pirate with the end goal being to become the most infamous pirate ever to sail the seas. In order to accomplish this, users will need to raise their infamy, which seems to operate like levels in this game. Infamy can be raised by completing contracts, exploring, digging up treasure, or by taking down other opponents.

Much like other pirate games, players will also need to keep careful watch over their ship and everything in it. They’ll be able to stock up prior to the launch of an expedition, and will need to make sure they have enough cargo and rations in order to keep their ship and crew healthy enough to prevent disaster, or a mutiny, which can seemingly happen if the crew becomes too tired, hungry, or damaged.

RELATED: Ubisoft Up for Sale to Private Equity Firm Amid Significant Game Delays

Online multiplayer is also a main focus in Skull & Bones, and looks to operate similarly to a game like Sea of Thieves, with players constantly surrounded by other players. Passing ships can either choose to peacefully drift by or launch attacks, setting off a battle that will lead to one crew commandeering a ton of loot and cargo. Many of these gameplay features are awfully similar to the ones that insider Tom Henderson tweeted out in September 2021, including the Indian Ocean setting.

Skull & Bones has had a tumultuous development even before its 2017 reveal. It started out as an add-on for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag that changed to keep up with the times and was pushed multiple times. According to a Kotaku report, there seems to be many reasons — from bad management to lack of clear direction to it having muddled design — behind its delays, but it appears as though it is finally sailing over the finish line and will reappear before players in due time. And the time is supposed to be sometime between 2022 and 2023.

Andrew Garfield Responds to Spider-Man: No Way Home Fake-Butt Claims

During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers earlier this year, Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland set off an internet frenzy by teasing that one of the three Spider-Man actors (himself, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield) was wearing a fake butt inside of their costumes.

In a new interview with Seth, Andrew Garfield has acknowledged the rumors, and denied it was him that was sporting any fake modifications.

“All I know is that I am totally unmodified,” Garfield said when the topic was brought up. “And that’s all I can share.” When asked about why Garfield believes Holland would put that information out there, Garfield joked that Holland was just very good at marketing, and couldn’t help himself when it came to dropping bits of information.

“He’s just stirring the pot, old Tom. He can’t help himself,” said Garfield. “There’s an expression that we have in entertainment, which is that we want to put bums on seats. We want to get the audience sat and paying their tickets. Tom is pretty great at creating the subgenres of games for you all while you’re in the cinema going, ‘Well, that butt doesn’t look real.’ ‘Tobey’s looks like it might be real.’ ‘Could Andrew have that much a–? Maybe. Potentially.'”

Spider-Man: No Way Home is led by Tom Holland as the beloved titular wall-crawler, along with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange. It was directed by Jon Watts from a screenplay written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. It also stars Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Tony Revolori, and Hannibal Buress (Tag) along with Sony’s Spider-Man Universe alums Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, J.K. Simmons, Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe, Jamie Foxx, Thomas Haden Church, and Rhys Ifans.

Ballerina: Ana de Armas-Led John Wick Spin-Off Sets Filming Start Date

During Lionsgate’s recent CinemaCon presentation, the studio has finally announced that production on the first John Wick spin-off film Ballerina is expected to begin sometime this summer. It has also been confirmed that Golden Globe nominee Ana de Armas has officially boarded the project as its female lead.

RELATED: The Gray Man First-Look Photos Set Release Date for All-Star Spy Thriller

The project was first announced in 2019, following the theatrical debut of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, where it gives us our first look at the Ballerina assassins who are being trained by the Ruska Roma syndicate led by Anjelica Huston’s character.

Ballerina focuses on a young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family. It will be directed by Len Wiseman from a screenplay written by Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead). The movie will be overseen by James Myers for Lionsgate. The spin-off is produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Keanu Reeves, and Chad Stahelski. In John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, John (Keanu Reeves) comes across what could be the titular ballerina, or, at least, where the new character likely comes from.

Interview: Director Martin Campbell Discusses the Liam Neeson Action Thriller Memory

ComingSoon’s Jeff Ames was able to speak with acclaimed director Martin Campbell about his new action-thriller, Memory. The film, which releases this week in theaters, stars Liam Neeson, Guy Pearce, Monica Bellucci, and Ray Stevenson.

“When Alex, an expert assassin, refuses to complete a job for a dangerous criminal organization, he becomes a target. FBI agents and Mexican intelligence are brought in to investigate the trail of bodies, leading them closer to Alex,” says the official synopsis. “With the crime syndicate and FBI in hot pursuit, Alex has the skills to stay ahead, except for one thing: he is struggling with severe memory loss, affecting his every move. Alex must question his every action and whom he can ultimately trust.”

Jeff Ames: What was it about this project that attracted you to it?

Martin Campbell: Well, there was actually a Belgian film that was shot in 2003. A few years ago, I happened to see the DVD and I thought it was terrific. I thought it could adapt to America, to the U.S./Mexico border. It was a perfect project for that. I managed to get the rights and get a script written and get Liam Neeson, who said yes. Based on his name, of course, we got the money for the film. That’s the history of it.

How tricky is it to make a character like Alex Lewis — who is, by all accounts, a very bad man — appealing to audiences? He does traverse some tricky moral territory.

That’s a very good point. First, you hire Liam Neeson. That’s the first thing you do. Like Tom Hanks, he has a lot of empathy. He just has a relationship with the camera that makes you like him, much like Tom Hanks. How could you not like these guys? And you’re right, his profession is pretty horrible. He’s a hitman. He kills people for money, and he doesn’t ask questions about who he’s killing until our movie where he’s asked to kill a 13-year-old girl — he refuses to do it.

Essentially, when he chooses to team up with Guy Pearce to see justice done, you like him. Very early on, you’re kind of on his side. Even when he’s dealing with his brother, which is a very nice scene between the two characters — Alex goes to the home and his brother has Alzheimer’s — he’s looking at himself, basically. It’s a mirror. He’s seeing himself. That’s where he’s going to end up. All of those elements go to helping you like the guy, despite a profession that is pretty horrible.

RELATED: Memory Interview: Liam Neeson Discusses Latest Action Film

In that same vein, the film deals with some pretty heavy subject matter — sex trafficking, you mentioned the U.S./Mexico border. How do you spin all of that into an enthralling narrative, because ultimately people have to watch the movie, right?

I’m not quite sure. All I can say is just be honest with the script. We have a good script from Dario Scardapane, who did a lot of episodes of The Bridge. So, he understood the border issues and how to strike that balance with all the dark subject matter. You’re right, it’s a tricky balance. I guess what happens is you get actors like Liam and Guy Pearce and Monica Bellucci.

I also do a lot of preparation on movies, certainly with the script and tracking the story. Tracking the arc of the Alzheimer’s progression in Liam’s character and so forth. I just hope the mixture and balance of the movie works out well.

Well, you certainly strike a perfect tone. This is a dark film, but also a pretty awesome action thriller with Liam Neeson. Speaking of which, having directed a number of action scenes over the years, do you find it more difficult to come up with new ways to create awesome action, or is it just something you can do in your sleep at this point?

You can never do it in your sleep. You have to keep the action in keeping with the character. Action for action’s sake is boring, no question. You have to balance the action. For example, in a movie called The Foreigner with Jackie Chan, I absolutely refused to let him do his usual style — you know pulling out the tablecloth, or fighting with a ladder, all of which he does brilliantly. But because the character was military-based, the action had to be very different to what he normally does. The same goes for Memory. It’s all character-related.

With Liam, because he’s 68 — and that’s what he is in the movie, there’s no question he’s getting to the end of his career. He even tells his boss at one point that he wants out. And his boss tells him, “There’s no getting out for people like us. You’ll end up with a bullet to the head.” The characters and relationships are what intrigue me in the story.

How much of your work is improvised on the spot? Was there a moment in Memory where you threw something in at the last second that ended up enhancing a scene?

There are always moments you can throw in — happy accidents are what we call them. Somebody trips over a chair or whatever it may be. But I did a lot of work with Guy Pearce. We went through the script, changed lines and broke the scenes down and asked if there was a better way to do this, or a better way to tell the story.

For example, a scene where Harold comes in and Guy’s playing billiards. He’s been ordered back by the boss. He has to go back to Mexico, and he refuses. He’s got to stay here. That whole scene was originally written outside of Guy’s apartment and the dialogue was completely different. We reworked it and Guy is very good at coming up with ideas based on what the scene is about. We reworked the dialogue. It’s an entirely different scene than what was written. That’s the kind of thing that we do. It’s saying the same thing that was originally intended in the script, but it’s just improving upon the original. Once the characters are set, they kind of dictate the way the scene is played.

One of the interesting elements of the film is that the good guys are forced to obey the rules while Alex can dish out swift justice. In that regard, do you consider him the hero of the story?

Not really, no. It’s true there’s always a Mexican liaison guy, for obvious reasons — they’re on the border. And they’re obviously dealing with a lot of Mexicans. So, that’s a fact, that’s the way these things work. Harold’s character, rather like Guy’s, they’re all sort of attuned to the corrupt system that lets these people — these wealthy white people — get away this sort of thing. And of course, both Harold and Vincent, that’s Guy Pearce, they have obviously had tragedy in their lives which governs the outcome of how they deal with the ultimate end of this story, which is very different from the original by the way. Really, it comes from two honest cops dealing in a corrupt system that have decided to draw a line in the sand. All of those themes are really interesting.

RELATED: Interview: Director Martin Campbell Discusses The Protégé

You’ve mentioned the superb cast, so how did this amazing ensemble come together?

Well, Liam got the film set up. Once you get Liam, you get your film set up, basically. He loved the part; I think because it was something different for him. It had a little more nuance and depth perhaps than he had done in the past for a little while. He was very attracted to playing a bad guy. Liam is the ticket to getting a load of other great actors, which is what we did.

What made you cast these actors for these specific roles?

Well, I’ve always admired Guy Pearce. He never put a foot wrong, no matter what the movie. He’s terrific. And Monica makes that part way more interesting than perhaps what was written, if you see what I mean? And Ray Stevenson is all cop, who also has his different loyalties. There’s a big separation between the FBI and the local police. There’s a sort of turf war between them, which, by the way, was in the original film. Different police force than what it is in America, but that conflict was there in the original film. I think we developed it a little more than the original film and did a good job.

Antonia Salib Discusses Transforming into Taweret for Moon Knight

Antonia Salib portrays Taweret, an Egyptian Goddess in Disney+’s ongoing series Moon Knight. In a recent interview with Marvel about her character, Salib discussed the difficulties of filming scenes as a giant hippopotamus and more.

RELATED: Moon Knight Episode 5 Reaction, Thoughts, and Theories

“[The character] was a complete surprise. I knew I was auditioning for Marvel Studios and I knew it was for a lead — an Egyptian woman,” Salib said of her character. “They kind of gave me a fake name, and they had a dummy script. It was only once I was about to meet the director, and the casting team, they just mentioned, ‘By the way, you’re going to be a CGI hippo.’ I was like ‘OK, sounds great, let’s do it!’”

When it came to portraying the character, Salib had to get used to the process of filming with motion capture in mind. In order to accomplish the size and scale differences of Taweret, Salib had to wear large platform shoes, as well as some of the costume pieces of the Egyptian goddess.

“I wore these huge platform shoes … they were [supposed] to be hippo feet,” said Salib. “There was this gorgeous scarab, and hieroglyphs carved into my costume. It was kind of a big breastplate that I wore around my neck. And I had several layers of feathers that plumed out. She’s a very fashionable goddess. [I had] these brilliant bracelets, and it was just beautiful, all gold. The joy of having this incredible costume, and these beautiful sets, was just that it really helped elevate me to this godly hippo status so that I rise to the role.”

Moon Knight stars Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac as Steven Grant/Marc Spector, marking the fan-favorite superhero’s live-action debut. It also features Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow, F. Murray Abraham as the voice of Khonshu, May Calamawy as Layla, and the late Gaspard Ulliel as Midnight Man.

“It follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life,” says the official synopsis. “Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.”

Based on the character created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin, Moon Knight hails from head writer and executive producer Jeremy Slater (The Umbrella Academy). The episodes are directed by acclaimed filmmaker Mohamed Diab, along with Synchronic duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead.

Executive producers are Isaac, Diab, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Grant Curtis, Trevor Waterson, and Rebecca Kirsch.

Melissa McBride Exits The Walking Dead Spin-off Based on Carol and Daryl

The Walking Dead star Melissa McBride is no longer set to star in a planned Carol/Daryl spin-off series, according to a recent report from Variety.

RELATED: The Walking Dead Final Season Wraps Production

The series, which was initially announced in September 2020, was set to star both McBride and Norman Reedus. Reedus was set to reprise his role as fan-favorite character Daryl Dixon. No reason for the abrupt exit was given, however, so it’s unclear as to why McBride has decided to no longer appear.

Reddus and McBride both appeared in the initial season of The Walking Dead, and the characters of Daryl and Carol have remained throughout the series, surviving various encounters with the zombie-like monsters found in the show. Along the way, their characters became fan-favorites, with fans praising the chemistry that Reedus and McBride had together. That chemistry is what partially led to the development of the spin-off series.

The Carol/Daryl spin-off series is just one of many planned series set to be based on The Walking Dead, with a spin-off focused on Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan and Lauren Cohan’s Maggie also in the works. The episodic anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead, as well as the ongoing Fear the Walking Dead, are also still on AMC’s plate going forward.

The Walking Dead currently stars Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Cailey Fleming, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It also features Nadia Hilker, Lauren Ridloff, Cooper Andrews, Callan McAuliffe, Eleanor Matsuura, and Cassady McClincy.

Chu took to Twitter to share his statement about the announcement, where he shared the reason why the film adaptation has to be split into two parts. With this development, the In the Heights filmmaker promises to bring more depth to the beloved characters’ story.

“As we prepared this production over the last year, it became increasingly clear that it would be impossible to wrestle the story of Wicked into a single film without doing real damage to it,” Chu said in a statement. “As we tried to cut songs or trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years. So we decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one Wicked movie but TWO!!! With more space, we can tell the story of Wicked as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys of these beloved characters.”

wicked update

Based on Gregory Maguire’s bestselling novel and the Tony-winning stage musical, The Wicked movies will tell the untold story of the Witches of Oz be led by Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda. It will be directed by Jon M. Chu from a screenplay written by the musical’s book writer  Winnie Holzman and three-time Oscar-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz.

Sega Delisting Several Classic Sonic Titles From Digital Storefronts

In preparation for the upcoming release of Sonic Origins on June 23, Sega has announced that a number of classic Sonic the Hedgehog games will have their standalone digital versions delisted from most online stores.

The titles set to be delisted on May 20 are Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. These are all of the games that will be included in the upcoming Sonic Origins collection. The only exceptions are the Sega Ages versions of Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2, which will stay available on the Nintendo Switch, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which will continue to be available through Nintendo Switch Online +.

This planned removal may tie into several other Sega games that are reportedly also leaving PlayStation Now in May. Though Sonic CD is the only Sonic Origins-related title to be taken down (given it’s the only game currently on the service that’s part of the upcoming collection), a number of other prominent Sonic entries are being pulled. This includes both Sonic Adventure titles, Sonic Generations, and Sonic Mania, as well as titles from other Sega franchises like the Yakuza series and House of the Dead.

This situation brings to mind when Rockstar Games did the same thing with multiple Grand Theft Auto entries before the bumpy launch of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. Rockstar did apologize, but only the original PC versions made their way back to the platform.

TNT & TBS Scripted Programming Development Axed by Warner Bros. Discovery

In a pivot after the merger of both companies, Warner Bros. Discovery has cut all scripted programming development at both TBS and TNT.

According to the report from Variety, the WarnerMedia cable channels will no longer develop any additional scripted content. This isn’t entirely a surprise as both channels’ original slates had shrunk over the past few years, but both networks both had marquee scripted shows, such as The Last OG and American Dad on TBS, and Snowpierecer on TNT.

The future of its current slate of scripted is currently unknown, although Miracle Works and Chad both have additional seasons set to air and American Dad just got renewed for two additional seasons last year from TBS. Meanwhile, Snowpiercer has been renewed for a fourth season, while TNT’s only other scripted show, Animal Kingdom, is ending in June.

This is yet another shift in the decision-making of the company post-merger. CNN+ was immediately axed just shortly after its launch and now there’s talk of moving some HBO Max releases to theaters as well. There’s also a supposed overhaul of DC Entertainment coming, so expect more changes to come in the future..

We’ll make sure to update the article if any additional information comes out on this move by Warner Bros. Discovery.
