Fullmetal Alchemist Game Gets Gameplay Trailer, Japanese Launch Date

Square Enix held a lengthy prerelease stream to help notify potential players that Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile was launching in Japan on August 4. The game takes the characters from Hiromu Arakawa’s beloved manga and anime and transfers them into a tactics game you can take on the go. The showcase covers plenty of gameplay highlights and confirms that the final release is coming to Android and iOS upon launch.

For those who’ve missed Square Enix’s marketing blitz so far, Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile looks to Nintendo’s Fire Emblem for inspiration. Characters move on grids and attack when needed, unleashing the alchemical energy the series is known for. Characters from across the show are built into the game’s narrative, which covers significant events from the show while also diverging to stretch things out to the indeterminate length of a mobile adventure.

This includes in-universe stories not seen before in other FMA adaptions and projects. The panel on hand to talk about the game in the pre-launch stream talked about the game’s many side stories, the massive cast of included characters on offer, and new clips of gameplay shown off for the first time.

Preregistration for Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile is still available on the game’s official website for the August launch in Japan, although there’s no known US launch scheduled as of yet. Players can get various in-game rewards for registering their interest early, so any FMA fan in the land of the rising sun looking for a new mobile addiction should take a look.

Interview: Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin Cinematographer Anka Malatynska

ComingSoon’s Jeff Ames was given the opportunity to sit down and speak with cinematographer Anka Malatynska about her work on HBO’s Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. The series is currently streaming on HBO Max.

Jeff Ames: What led you to become a cinematographer?

Anka Malatynska: Curiosity and the human condition.

Were there specific individuals in the field who influenced your style?

Yes. Laszlo Kovacs, Vilmos Zsigmond. One of my mentors, Jim Chressanthis, who was also mentored by Vilmos Zsigmond. There is a very specific approach of Rembrant lighting, of using backlight, which to me was most apparent in the American New Wave. When you watch Close Encounters of the Third Kind, it’s the most beautiful way of approaching light, that light can be much softer and much harder. That style can have many different iterations. In general, I don’t love flat lighting, I love epic lighting. I love things that even when they are ugly, they sing with their beauty. When I go to the movies, I go to be entertained and for me that’s a part of being able to suspend disbelief in a world that even when it’s ugly, is beautiful. That there is a poetry about it. Those are the specific people that I feel like influenced me.

I feel like early on I was really inspired by Anthony Dod Mantle. Him using ten million cameras all over the place. I felt like Slumdog Millionaire had a lot of fun and inventive energetic framing. I’m always looking for different ways to frame things.

How has your technique/style evolved over the years?

I feel like right now I am rising up from the work of being in the midst of a revolution of my style and technique. The huge way that my style and technique have evolved is that over the past three years, the sheer volume of work and the number of hours that I have worked have been immense. This means I live, eat, breath cinematography. Cinematography is my church and my daily bread. It is what my brain does more than anything else. That has liberated me into making very quick decisions. I like that Roger Deakins once said that a cinematographer’s job is to be able to foresee where they would get in trouble, if they make a certain decision. Like I will get in trouble with light, if I shoot my wide shots last and my coverage first. What will be better for the angle of the sun? Things of that nature. Where do I put the light, so I never have to move again and it can do as much work for me as possible?

Again, my whole evolution and what excites me is to be able to harness the technology, to harness the tools, but still be able to give the set to the actors and to the energy of the story, to that ethereal unspoken aspect of when we see films and they really deeply touch our hearts. How do we harness those tools not to overwhelm, but help bring that to the final product. My evolution to my style has been over the years of practicing my craft, I am comfortable with my technical tools, enough so to then ask deeper questions of what we are doing. Not being afraid of trying something new or approaching the scene in a more complicated way because I have a schedule looming before me. But to despite all that stress, stay engaged in the magic.

What was it about Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin that made you want to work on it?

The daily stills that I saw from the pilot. I thought, wow this is something really special. I read the script, I met with the team. I felt like I had a great connection with the team and was really welcomed by them. I remember that one our producer’s assistants said “I knew when we got off the phone with you that it would be you”. I felt the same way about them. Then we went into the heart of darkness, into the dark forest of the Catskills, into the cold winter woods and made a beautiful thing.

What was the most challenging aspect of Pretty Little Liars and how did you overcome it?

The weather was one of the most challenging aspects. Also, the Covid wave in January was very challenging. We overcame it by growing our schedule by close to two months. We had ice storms that knocking the power out for over three days at one point. People had to be moved from their rentals to hotels in town because there was no electricity or heat. I lived in a cabin in the woods that had a backup generator, so I was fine. We had a very challenging location that was a high school waiting for demolition. That place had bats and heat issues. We had back woods ice roads. We had snow storms. They were overcome with patience and our producers making the choice to keep us safe, rather than working at certain times. That is a big kudos to them.

Do you have any fun, behind-the-scenes stories about the making of Pretty Little Liars that you can share?

Well, we had a lot of fun every day. Even in the midst of the stress and cold we managed to have good energy on set. I can’t think of any stories off the top of my head.

What was your collaboration with the various directors on the show like? How challenging was their overarching vision?

I had some really wonderful collaborations on the show. We had an amazing pilot director who had a very strong and specific vision. She shot the first and second episodes and then I came in with Maggie Kiley. We watched Lisa’s episodes and we were to continue on the work, which we did. Of course, every director brings in a little more of their own point of view. I remember when the episode seven director came in, he said he really couldn’t see a change from the first few teams. I feel like Maggie and I did a wonderful job of watching Lisa’s work and building on it. I worked with Lisa again on episodes 4 and 5. Lisa is a very exciting and challenging director to work with. I think because she comes from animation and in animation, you can take the camera and move it anywhere. She also had incredible shot ideas. She really fought to preserve those shots in the edits. I feel like working with her on episodes 4 and 5, I got to know the series deeper. That’s where I started embracing even more lower angles. When we got together, we opened the door to these super wide angle lenses. Then Lisa left and she was going to be back for the finale and I was to carry the torch of the look of that show. I can proudly say I did and carried those things through, while at the same time having my own journey and incorporating the incoming director’s visions. I remember Lisa was very much committed to wide angle lenses as much as possible.

When I worked with Alex Pillai on episode 7, we had a couple very long assemble scenes. I remember Alex saying, “I’m going to need to use wide angle lenses and single them out.” I remember having this conversation in my head of preserving the look of the show. I think in the end, even as we osculate the use of certain focal lengths throughout the lifetime of the series. The same language following the same story, it still does preserve the look of show. So, every director is different and I believe every director is there to include, within the series, what it is their eye loves and how it is their eyes as a storyteller see. I got to work with the most spectacular people. Cierra Glaude, Megan Griffiths who directed episode 8. Every single one of these collaborations was very different and that’s the exciting part of shooting a series and sometimes the stressful part. I call it blind creative dating for directors and DPs. You never know if you will get along or say the same thing. Maggie Kylie and I had really similar instincts, so it was really easy entrance into the Pretty Little Liars world on episode 3.

You also worked alongside Joe Collins and Teodoro Maniaci … is it difficult to merge your styles or does everyone just do their own thing? (In other words, how important is consistency?)

I think consistency is really important. I really respected the vision that Joe established in episode 1 and 2. I thought it was exciting and ballsy. It was one of the things that made me want to be involved with the show. So of course, I will honor that vision and continue that vision. At the same time, I’m a human being and that world through my eyes will have its own stamp that’s a little different than Joe’s.

I worked for Teo as a loader on the first indie film I ever worked on out of NYU when I was 19 years old. I remember watching him work and the beauty of his lighting. I remember how masterful he was. When we needed a tandem DP because eventually you always need a tandem DP on a series that is that intricate. I have to scout while someone shoots. He had worked on Katy Keene for Roberto and he was suggested as a tandem DP. He came in and was so gracious and did such beautiful work. He also had a very high level of attention to detail of how we are lighting, ect. I think Teo took what I did and refined it even more. There are things that I did that beautified some of the approach of what Joe was doing. I used more eye lights and at times went softer with the light. I think Teo also beautified it even more. I think it was this incredible experience to have this DP that I had looked up to, come in and work in tandem on a series that I was shooting. He was so gracious and kind. He could have come in and stepped on my toes because he has many years of experience on me. That was a super special experience in the world of cinematography and it taught me so much about going in and being respectful and making an effort to keep the look consistent if I am ever a tandem DP.

Were there things you learned from working on Pretty Little Liars that you’re excited to apply to future projects?

So many things that I have already been applying on future projects. I really got into working with Titan and Helio lights. They are Astera type RGB bulbs that are single lights. They are a type of light that basically the Helios are very small and we could hide them behind furniture. I had used them a little bit on I Know What You Did Last Summer, but they became a primary tool on Pretty Little Liars. That was one of the reasons we could use those and maintain a certain soft look, because we used so much smoke, that smoke would act like a diffusion over the light. I love hiding those little lights in different places. They are very convenient and fast.

Do you have any other projects coming up that you can share with us?

Yes, I recently shot two episodes of a series called Kindred that is coming out on Fox and FX. I am really excited about the work I got to do on that series. I also have a film coming out called The Listener, starring Tessa Thompson that Steve Buscemi directed. That was an incredible collaboration. Really excited about sharing that movie.

Kevin Feige Looking for Ways to ‘Elevate’ Deadpool 3

One film left absent from Marvel Studios’ San Diego Comic-Con panel was the upcoming Deadpool 3, a film which many fans are extremely excited about. According to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, development on the film is proceeding, and hinted at what fans can expect from it.

RELATED: Deadpool 3: Ryan Reynolds Teases First Character Return for MCU Sequel

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter following their Hall H panel at SDCC, Feige was asked about the third Deadpool film, and teased that Marvel Studios has a history of taking big swings when it comes to the third entry in a film series. He went on to note that the studio is looking at how to best “elevate” the film in the same they did with other third films like Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Thor: Ragnarok.

“How do we elevate it in the way we’ve been able to with Civil War, and Infinity War and Ragnarok?” said Feige, before joking about getting to work with Deadpool‘s star Ryan Reynolds. “It’s very fun to be in the world of the Ryan Reynolds show.”

While not too much is known about Deadpool 3, it’s now being written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick from a previous draft by Bob’s Burgers duo Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has also previously assured fans that it will remain as an R-rated film just like the first two movies, which would make it the studio’s first movie with a mature rating.

It will also serve as the first movie in the Deadpool film series that will be released following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. A release date for the movie has not yet been announced.

The first two Deadpool films are both box-office successes as they earned a combined worldwide gross of over $1.5 billion. They were both written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, based on the Marvel character created by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld, with the first one directed by Tim Miller, and Deadpool 2 directed by David Leitch.

Jon Favreau Tried to Stop Russo Brothers From Killing Iron Man

Avengers: Endgame featured a ton of emotional moments, none of which were most emotional than the death of Iron Man at the end of the film. According to the directing duo the Russo Brothers, though, there was some pushback on the idea of doing that.

RELATED: Interview: Xochitl Gomez Reflects on Doctor Strange 2, Entering the MCU

Speaking in a new video for Vanity Fair where they break down some scenes from their films, the Russos spoke about trying to find the perfect way to end Robert Downey Jr.’s run as Iron Man when they were called by actor/director Jon Favreau, who tried to prevent them from killing off Iron Man.

“Part of the pressure came from Jon Favreau, who called us up after he read the script and said to us, ‘Are you guys really going to kill Iron Man?’” Anthony Russo said in the interview. Joe Russo then spoke up, confirming more of the story and recalling talking to Favreau on the phone to try and “talk him off the ledge.”

“He did. Yeah,” Joe Russo said. “And I remember pacing on the corner of a stage on the phone with Favreau trying to talk him off a ledge. Because he’s like, ‘You can’t do this. It’s gonna devastate people, and you don’t want them, you know, walking out of the theater and into traffic.’ We did it anyways.”

Of course, the final product does feature Iron Man sacrificing himself to save the world, and despite the hard-hitting moment, the Russos still believe that it was the perfect ending for the character, who essentially got to have two separate endings in the film due to the first half of the film where he was shown with a happy family.

Dallas Sting: Matthew McConaughey to Star in Skydance’s Soccer Drama Film

According to Deadline, Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey has signed on for one of the leading roles in Skydance’s forthcoming sports drama film titled Dallas Sting. It is inspired by the true story of how a soccer team consisting of Dallas high school girls beat the odds by winning against other experienced teams in China. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier director Kari Skogland is currently attached to direct the underdog film, which is written by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch.

RELATED: Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorcese Partner for Naval Thriller Film at Apple TV+

McConaughey is set to portray the role of Coach Bill Kinder, who leads the rag-tag group of Texan teens toward a Rocky-esque destiny — despite not having any experience in coaching the sport.

In 1984, China invited America’s U.S. Soccer team to the first world championship, which was a big step for international relations. However, the only problem is the country didn’t have a women’s soccer team who could represent the United States. Because of this, they enlisted a group of Dallas high school girls through a nationwide search.

Dallas Sting is being developed by Skydance and Berlanti Schechter Productions. It will be produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Robbie Rogers, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger. Production is expected to begin sometime this fall in New Orleans.

McConaughey isn’t a stranger to the sports genre, as he previously starred in D.J. Caruso’s Two for the Money and McG’s We Are Marshall. His notable film credits include Dazed and Confused, A Time to Kill, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, The Lincoln Lawyer, and Dallas Buyers Club.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorcese Partner for Naval Thriller Film at Apple TV+

Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese are longtime partners in the film world, so it makes sense that they’re set to team up again on an upcoming adaptation of a David Gramm novel.

RELATED: Martin Scorcese’s Killers of the Flower Moon Could Be Delayed to 2023

According to The Hollywood Reporter, DiCaprio will star in the project with Scorcese directing, with Apple Original Films landing the rights to the book’s film story. The film will mark the second time the pair of Scorcese and DiCaprio are set to work with Apple, as the company is also one of the producers on the highly anticipated upcoming Scorcese film Killers of the Flower Moon.

The novel, The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder, is set to be released in April 2023. It is set in the 1740s and tells the story of a group of 30 emaciated pirates who arrive on the coast of Brazil, only to be praised as heroes and survivors after recounting their stories to the local members of the community.

However, six months later, a small group of three men land on the coast of Chile and claim that the original 30 pirates are mutineers. This sets in motion a tale of intrigue and mystery that the British Admiralty tries to uncover.

Call of Duty Terminator Crossover Trailer Showcases New Cosmetics

Activision only previously teased and then listed what Call of Duty‘s Terminator crossover items were going to be. The latter had a few pictures, but didn’t fully showcase what these cosmetics looked like during gameplay. A new trailer does just that, giving users a better peek at the T-800 and T-1000 sprinting, shooting, and doing other Call of Duty-esque things.

Set to a familiar theme, the trailer is mainly focused on the two main bundles in the game with each of the aforementioned Terminators, both of which mainly pull from the second film. They will be available from August 1 to August 31 and will likely be around 2,400 COD Points each (around $20). People who buy both get the “Target Acquired” LMG Weapon Blueprint and the “Endoskeleton Skull” Charm.

RELATED: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Extended Gameplay Trailer Demos Campaign Mission

While Activision explained what would be in each pack, this new drop is a little more detailed. The names of these are mostly quotes from the films and may not be important out of context, but the T-1000 will be able to mimic the voices of the other characters, which is a new touch. The Tracer Pack: Terminator T-800 Mastercraft Ultra Limited Time Bundle will have:

  • Ultra “Model T-800” Operator, including 49 Quips, three of which are earned by leveling up the Operator
  • “Terminated” Finishing Move
  • “Trust Me” Highlight Intro
  • “He’ll Live” MVP Highlight
  • Multiple skins
  • Ultra-Rarity “Neutral Processor” Assault Rifle Weapon Blueprint, which features tracer rounds and two Legendary Weapon Blueprints: The “Coltan Alloy” SMG and the “Motorhead” Shotgun
  • An “Infrared Optics” Reticle
  • The “Always Scanning” Charm
  • The Legendary “I’ll Be Back” Animated Emblem

And the Tracer Pack: Terminator T-1000 Ultra Operator Limited Time Bundle will include:

  • Ultra “Model T-1000” Operator includes 14 unique Quips, three earned through leveling the Operator, plus 60 mimicry quips disguised as other Operators
  • “Blocker Remover” Finishing Move
  • “My Turn” Highlight Intro
  • “I Wouldn’t Worry” MVP Highlight
  • Three Legendary Weapon Blueprints: the “Liquid Metal” SMG, the “Persistent Mission” Assault Rifle and the “Identity Theft” LMG
  • The Legendary “Unstoppable” Animated Calling Card
  • The Animated “Full Chase” Emblem
  • The “Alternative Future” Watch

The previously revealed and Terminator-inspired Titanium Trials: Endurance battle royale game mode will also run from August 11 through August 24, which makes everyone a little more resilient in a few different ways. Players can earn nine other rewards like the “Titanium Chrome” Weapon Camo, the “I’ll Be Back” Calling Card, and more.

And in a peculiar turn, Activision is also selling Call of Duty-branded Terminator merch on its store. There’s a tumbler, a few shirts, and a hoodie with the two IPs on them, seemingly for anyone who loves both Activision’s shooter series and the sci-fil film franchise.

Interview: How Roll7 Released 2 Games in 6 months Without Falling Apart

Even small studios don’t typically put out more than one game in a calendar year. But Roll7 is doing exactly that and more, as it released OlliOlli World in February and its first expansion in June and is just on the cusp of releasing Rollerdrome and the second untitled OlliOlli World expansion (which is slated for the fall). It’s a lot by any measure and was one of the few topics ComingSoon Senior Gaming Editor Michael Leri covered while speaking to Head of QA David Jenkins and Lead Producer Drew Jones. Jenkins and Jones also talked about the studio’s love for games built to evoke a flow state, Rollerdrome‘s 1970s aesthetic, and more.

Michael Leri: Roll7 released an interesting dev diary about the game and it contained a look at the game in its very early stages. Obviously now, it looks very different. How did the team settle on the cel-shaded, Sable-esque art style and 1970s tone?

Drew Jones: There is a logical sequence to how it all came together. The original prototype of the game was always roller skating with guns and we knew that after making the prototype and making sure that that was something people thought was fun, we proceeded to make a game out of it. Because it is a bloodsport, a lot of the references just slotted into place. It’s just a wealth of fantastic inspiration from the 1970s in particular where bloodsports were in. New things like roller skates were coming around and we had films like Rollerball and The Running Man [Editor’s note: The Running Man book released in 1982 and the film came out in 1987]. Part of why the references are in the 1970s are because the ‘70s were such a key connection between the genre of the game.

There are two main reasons why the game has this art style. The first one is we didn’t want it to be photorealistic. And we knew it couldn’t be too busy. There’s too much going on especially when it gets thick and fast and we need things to stand out and pop. If there’s too much detail, a lot of the gameplay readability is sacrificed. We didn’t want it to be complicated. But we also wanted it to be beautiful. And after looking through a lot of references, we aligned on this flat color for the simplicity but also because it is a striking thing. We already had some really good rendering tech from OlliOlli World and we just tried to push that in a different direction where it was less cartoony but still comic booky.

Rollerdrome Preview:

Rollerdrome is a real systems-heavy game, which is reminiscent of OlliOlli World. Both of these games have a similar deep foundation of skill-based combos and a high skill ceiling. Given those basic similarities, how does making some like OlliOlli help with creating Rollerdrome?

Jones: I think Rollerdrome taps into the DNA of Roll7. It’s got the extreme sports angle, like previous Roll7 games like Laser League which was an arena-based bloodsport kind of thing. Not a Hero was a fast-paced moment-to-moment shooting game. Not through any sort of contrivance, we just ended up with — and I am going to say the “synergy” word — a synergy of all of those elements. A lot of those elements are there in some way shape or form, but not any one of them stands out. It’s a nice balance.

The thing that links all of those games and what’s at the real heart of what we are trying to do at Roll7 is flow. We want to make a game where players just get into this state where one action beautifully leads to the next one. And the player is engaged but not stressed or taxed. That’s the kind of balance that we want to strike. Once you really get into the game’s mechanics, you are just gliding through the level and you are paying a lot of attention because it is easy to fail, but when you get into that groove and you look at the clock and it’s been like an hour.

David Jenkins: The fun challenge of making these in parallel, and being in QA where we flip between the two, was to do what we did with OlliOlli World in terms of the level layouts. The way one thing moves on to the next and you hit all these beats, doing that in a 2D space is relatively easy compared to doing it in a 3D space. Because in a 2D space, we know about how fast you will probably be going and what direction you’re going. In a 3D space, you can be going in any direction at any speed and that made putting the levels together more difficult but also more rewarding when we nail it.

And then to combine it with the additional mechanics, it is not just about where the ramps, quarter pipes, and grind rails are, it’s where the ramps are relative to the sniper or rocket guy is. And that was fun to iterate on and contribute to that as part of our wider role in QA that goes beyond just testing. It’s the actual QA bit that I think gets lost sometimes where we are actually assuring it is a quality product and not just saying that it works.

Rollerdrome Preview:

The aforementioned video did a good job of explaining how the levels are designed to encourage this sort of flow state that is nudging the players back into the action. Can you speak to finding that flow state and how important it was to nail?

Jones: For me, every action should lead to the next. In Rollerdrome, you do a trick that will replenish your ammo and you come back down, you are presented with a bunch of options. You can turn left and face a ramp. You can go forward where there might be an enemy. Or you can turn the other way and do a grind or something. The options are always there and players never have to think too consciously or too hard about the next action. The next action is just always there and because there is constant movement it’s almost like a fait accompli. Like you have to make your decision on what to do next because you’re moving towards it.

One of the eureka moments is when you hit that loop of doing tricks to reload your ammo and killing enemies to refill your health. That’s the core repeatable loop within the gameplay. Once we had that, it really did start to behave how I just described. The skating and shooting just complement each other and you really can’t do one without the other and both of them really pull you along into taking the next action. With a bit of refinement, we got to the point where it isn’t autopilot, but your brain is active and it is doing the work, but it’s not a conscious thing. For me, when you really get into the zone, it’s relaxing in a really perverse way because you’re shooting guns and rockets.

Jenkins: You really hit that autonomous state. I used to teach kickboxing and the learning goes through the cognitive phase, then the associative phase, and then autonomous phase. And the autonomous phase is where you start hitting that real flow state. You’re not consciously going, “Oh, there’s an enemy over there. I think I will change to the shotgun.” Your brain isn’t thinking those things in a drawn out way. You just feel and it all starts to take shape. And that’s when you can start planning ahead and that’s when you start really getting into the nitty gritty.

I like how the shooting and trick mechanics are tied together through the score system and although the score system isn’t essential to the game, it should almost feel like it is. Like you as the player should want to get a high score even if it makes no difference to anything.

Rollerdrome Preview:

Roll7 is release two games and two expansions this year. How did that all come about so closely? And how is Roll7 handling it without overworking its team members into the ground?

Jones: When Roll7 caught wind of the idea, it was an idea they wanted to take seriously. I think they just loved the idea so much that they thought it should be a Roll7 game. It just makes too much sense to do it. OlliOlli World was already in the early stages of development at that point so we weren’t too far behind.

It’s also not exclusive, but we tried to maintain two separate development teams. Making a video game is hard and it takes a lot of mental energy and you really have to dive into it, so for many roles and departments, we basically operated two different development teams. Certain people on the dev side worked on both projects, but we definitely didn’t want to spread people too thin because if people are a little bit frazzled, they tend not to deliver the best results. The main department that worked on both games is QA.

Jenkins: And what we tried to make sure we were doing that in an intelligent and deliberate way. It wasn’t just a case of everyone doing it all at the same time. We had some people who were dedicated to the project to a length of time and then we would bring other people over and swap people around to keep them fresh and keep them from burning out and doing the same thing over and over again. But we also did it to keep fresh eyes on the projects. We did a lot of playtesting internally with the other team. We did a lot of testing internally with Private Division, which was fantastic. We got a lot of people to get their hands on this game to help make sure that it was exactly what we think it is and exactly what we wanted to be.

We made some very deliberate efforts within QA in particular to tell certain people, “Don’t touch it. Don’t go near it. Leave it alone. I know it looks awesome, but leave it alone for a minute and we will come to you. You will get your chance.” And we would give them a questionnaire and record their footage of their first playthroughs so we could get their brand-new, untouched experience but also from a QA perspective because we have a unique perspective on games. We tend to be the ones who play games the most, not just our own games but generally, and we tend to be the ones who just enjoy games the most and have an eye for detail and being quite good at giving feedback. That is why we do what we do; we are suited for that kind of thing.

QA did a lot of crossover, but in terms of how we do that without feeling stretched, the producers did a hell of a job structuring things, planning everything, and scoping out deliverables and all that fun stuff that most people don’t see or care about in terms of the wider gaming audience. And what you don’t see in dev diaries is how much effort goes into making sure the game is actually ready when it is supposed to be ready and there was a lot of effort put into making sure that that was the case and that we never got to a point where we didn’t have enough people or time.

I feel like we always pretty much had exactly what we needed at any given moment and that is very much down to the production team and Private Division for giving us the freedom to do that and to stay true to who we are as a studio. It’s been a really good blending and balancing of everything and it’s all come together and I just can’t wait for people to play it and tell us how awesome it is.

She-Hulk Will Feature ‘A Lot of Cameos’ from MCU Newcomers

The upcoming Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is set to feature cameos from a variety of places, including some that fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have not yet seen at all.

RELATED: She-Hulk Featurette: Tatiana Maslany Breaks the Fourth Wall

In the latest trailer for She-Hulk, fans got a small glimpse at what looked to be Daredevil showing up in his original costume from the first few issues of his comic book series. However, speaking to Deadline following the Marvel Studios Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, She-Hulk writer Jessica Gao teased even more cameos, many of which have “never existed in the MCU.”

“It’s a lot of fun, a lot of cameos, and a lot of characters that have never existed in the MCU before that we’re pulling out of the comic books,” Gao said. “What I’m most excited about is really getting the time and the space to explore this character fully. Because in the Marvel movies, it’s always these high-stakes events — the universe is ending, half the people in the entire existence are getting snapped out. We never really have the time to explore who these people are. What are their regular lives like? And what’s really nice about this is we actually get the time and the space to do that.”

Described as a 10-episode legal comedy, the She-Hulk series will be led by Emmy and Golden Globe winner Tatiana Maslany, who will take on the titular role as Jennifer Walters. She will be joined by Avengers: Endgame star Mark Ruffalo and Tim Roth (The Incredible Hulk) as they reprise their respective roles as Bruce Banner/The Hulk and Abomination.

Additional cast includes Jameela Jamil, Ginger Gonzaga, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Josh Segarra, with Megan Thee Stallion rumored to also appear in the series.

She-Hulk hails from head writer Jessica Gao, who is the Emmy-winning scribe behind Rick and Morty‘s acclaimed season three episode “Pickle Rick.” It is directed by Kat Cairo (Brooklyn Nine-NineDead to Me) and Anu Valia, who are both executive producing.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty Has Found Its Director

Marvel unveiled a whole swath of Marvel Cinematic Universe television shows and films at San Diego Comic-Con. Two of those were Avengers movies, but only their titles were revealed. And while Avengers: Secret Wars has yet to nab its director, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will be directed by Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton.

RELATED: Every Marvel Disney+ Show’s Release Date From SDCC

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, but had no other details about the team-based movie. It’s unclear who exactly will be in those films and who will be writing them. And, as stated, Secret Wars, which is releasing six months after The Kang Dynasty in 2025, still doesn’t have its director. For what it’s worth, Joss Whedon directed the first two Avengers films and Joe and Anthony Russo directed Infinity War and Endgame, showing a pattern Marvel has yet to confirm with this saga. However, Kevin Feige did state that the Russos would not direct Secret Wars, even though the two have professed their love for it in the past.

Cretton also has other MCU projects in the works. He’s developing a live-action Wonder Man series and a Shang-Chi sequel.
