During an Asia-Pacific content showcase held in Singapore this week (via The Hollywood Reporter), Disney announced that it would be expanding its partnership with Japanese publisher Kodansha and would be licensing exclusive anime titles in the future, starting with the upcoming Tokyo Revengers: Christmas Showdown.
The forthcoming anime, which is set to begin airing in Japan in January 2023, will stream exclusively on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar beginning in January in Asia. It’s unclear exactly what platforms the anime will arrive on in other countries, however, so fans will have to wait for more information as the release date gets closer. Alongside the announcement of licensing, Disney also confirmed that it would be co-producing anime originals with Kodansha to exclusively stream on Disney+.
The new Tokyo Revengers anime will focus on the “Christmas Showdown” arc of the manga and will pick up from where the first season of the series ended. The anime began airing in April 2021, with 24 episodes currently available.
“Watching the news, Takemichi Hanagaki learns that his girlfriend from way back in middle school, Hinata Tachibana, has died. The only girlfriend he ever had was just killed by a villainous group known as the Tokyo Manji Gang,” reads the official synopsis for the series. “He lives in a crappy apartment with thin walls, and his six-years-younger boss treats him like an idiot. Plus, he’s a complete and total virgin … At the height of his rock-bottom life, he suddenly time-leaps twelve years back to his middle school days! To save Hinata, and change the life he spent running away, hopeless part-timer Takemichi must aim for the top of Kanto’s most sinister delinquent gang!”
Tokyo Revengers debuted to rave reviews and ran for 24 episodes before concluding its first season. The manga the anime is based on is one of the most popular in Japan right now, having even won the 44th Kodansha Manga Awards in the Shōnen category.
Gameloft explained more in a tweet and post on its website. The posts states that the studio is working hard to make a “fast-paced and competitive racing experience [players] will return to play for years to come” while also noting that it needs more time in order to achieve that vision. This time will lead to a “more immersive racing experience” with more customization options and game modes, according to Gameloft.
The team didn’t give an exact timeframe within 2023, so it’s unclear when this racer will be coming out on Switch, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. However, Gameloft will be providing regular updates before launch over the next several weeks.
Disney Speedstorm was originally supposed to launch in the summer, but was quietly moved to sometime within 2022. Gameloft has been slowly revealing new characters like Monsters Inc.‘s Sully and The Jungle Book‘s Baloo and even just recently went into the game’s four different classes.
Following the success of the Harry Potter reunion and competition shows, Warner Bros. TV Group boss Channing Dungey has said the company is having discussions about expanding its Harry Potter television catalog.
Dungey was speaking during the U.K. TV conference Content London, where she was asked by Variety about whether or not another television project based on Harry Potter would be coming. This comes following the success of HBO’s Harry Potter reunion, as well as the Helen Mirren-hosted Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Heroes game show that premiered last year.
“There is a tremendous amount of ambition for that and we are engaged in a number of different conversations,” Dungey said, before stating that though there’s not much more to discuss at the moment, but the fanbase for Harry Potter continues to be as active and passionate as ever.
“I wish I could tell you that something was imminent on the horizon but there is a lot of interest and a lot of passion for it, so absolutely,” said Dungey. “What’s great is that you see how the audience is so engaged and so ready. Our unscripted team did a fantastic Return to Hogwarts special for HBO last year, that resonated so tremendously, then we did a quiz show, The Tournament of Houses, that Helen Mirren was the host for. The audience is ready, they want to go, so we’re just [trying] to figure out what the right next step is.”
While the world of Harry Potter films remains up in the air following the lackluster performances of the Fantastic Beast films, it does seem like Warner Bros. Discovery is much invested in the Harry Potter franchise as a whole. Whether that materializes in new stories or simply more Harry Potter adjacent shows will have to wait to be seen.
Ang Lee, who has directed past hits such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Life of Pi, and Brokeback Mountain, will direct the feature that is set to star his son, Mason Lee, in the lead role of Bruce Lee. The film will be written by Dan Futterman (Capote, Foxcatcher), with Jean Castelli, Alex Law, Mabel Cheung, and Wells Tower writing earlier versions of the screenplay.
Not too much about the film is known as of now, but in a statement on the movie, Ang Lee said that he “felt compelled” to tell the story of Bruce, as he finds similarities between himself and the martial artist in their life stories.
“Accepted as neither fully American nor fully Chinese, Bruce Lee was a bridge between East and West who introduced Chinese Kung Fu to the world, a scientist of combat, and an iconic performing artist who revolutionized both the martial arts and action cinema,” Ang Lee said in a statement. “I feel compelled to tell the story of this brilliant, unique human being who yearned for belonging, possessed tremendous power in a 135-pound-frame, and who, through tireless hard work, made impossible dreams into reality.”
Prior to his death in 1973 at the age of 32, Lee had an impactful time in Hollywood as both an actor and director. Starring in films like Fist of Fury, Enter the Dragon, and The Way of the Dragon, Lee quickly became one of the most iconic martial artists of all time and is still beloved around the world.
The upcoming film is directed by Elizabeth Banks and stars Keri Russell, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Christian Convery-Jennings, Alden Ehrenreich, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Brooklynn Prince, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Kristofer Hivju, Hannah Hoekstra, Aaron Holiday, and Emmy winners Margo Martindale and Ray Liotta.
Check out the official Cocaine Bear trailer below:
“Inspired by the 1985 true story of a drug runner’s plane crash, missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it, this wild dark comedy finds an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists, and teens converging in a Georgia forest where a 500- pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow … and blood,” reads the official synopsis for the film.

According to Deadline, The Office alum Ed Helms has been tapped to star opposite Jennifer Garner in the upcoming body switch comedy film titled Family Leave, based on the book Bedtime for Mommy by New York times bestselling author Amy Krouse Rosenthal.
The Babysitter director McG has signed on to helm Family Leave, which is being written by Adam Sztykiel based on the first draft by Victoria Strouse. McG and Garner are also serving as producers. The project will be part of Garner’s multi-picture deal with Netflix.
“The film follows Jess and Bill Walker, who are doing their best to keep their family connected as their children grow older, more independent, and more distant,” reads the synopsis. “When a chance encounter with an astrological reader causes the family to wake up to a full body switch, on the morning of the most important day of each of their lives, can the Walkers unite to land a promotion, college interview, record deal, and soccer tryout?”
Producers are Lawrence Grey and Ben Everard for Grey Matter Productions, Nicole King Solaka for Linden Entertainment, and Garner, McG, and Mary Viola for Wonderland. David Hyman and Jason Brian Rosenthal are serving as executive producers.
Jurassic World Evolution 2 has pulled from various films in the series in a few ways and now its latest DLC, Dominion Malta, is going to take even more cues from Jurassic World Dominion. Dominion Malta is launching on December 8 on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S for $19.99.
Dominion Malta takes place before Jurassic World Dominion and has dinosaurs from the film including the Allosaurus, Dimorphodon, Iguanodon, and Carnotaurus, all of which have Dominion variant skins. The Iguanodon was singled out as getting 12 new colors and seven skins, but it’s not clear if the other three will get the same treatment.
The Lystrosaurus, Oviraptor, Atrociraptor, and Moros Intrepidus are also coming to the game and will all have 12 body colors and seven skin variants, which include skins based on Dominion. DeWanda Wise, Dichen Lachman, Omar Sy, and Campbell Scott have all reprised their roles as Kayla Watts, Soyona Santos, Barry Sembène, and Lewis Dodgson, respectively. The game already has some stars from the film like Jeff Goldblum and Bryce Dallas Howard.
Dominion Malta also comes with a new campaign and three new Mediterranean maps. Players will have to bounce between all three to run a successful operation and choose between running with the Authorities or the Underground. The new Dinosaur Exchange also lets users get more eggs, species, and genomes, further expanding how they can play. The Acquisition Center is also inspired by the film and will add new vehicle skins and decorations.
And as is the case with many expansions, this DLC comes with a free update that benefits all players. Five DFW campaign maps will become accessible as challenge levels once players have earned seven stars on each map in challenge mode. Behavior changes for smaller dinosaurs have also been implemented in this patch, including improvements to their collision and navigation logic.
The user interface has been streamlined, too, so users can more easily deduce what dinosaurs are where when transporting them. New ailment and tranquilize icons, better notifications for angry dinosaurs, and a notification for park tours that have been disable by storms have also all been added alongside various quality-of-life changes. These include sleeping dinosaurs reacting to honking horns, a slew of new dinosaur colors, the ability for PS4 players to export their save to the PS5 version, and NVIDIA DLSS 3 support for those on PC.
Netflix has dropped the first teaser trailer for That ’90s Show, the upcoming sequel series to the classic comedy series That ’70s Show. It will be available for streaming on January 19, 2023.
The That ’90s Show teaser trailer opens up with our first look at Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp’s return as Red and Kitty Forman. It also introduces lead star Callie Haverda, as she portrays the role of Eric and Donna’s teen daughter, Leia Forman.
Check out the That ’90s Show trailer below:
That ’90s Show features Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp reprising their roles as Red Forman and Kitty Forman in the 10-episode series. They are joined by Callie Haverda, Ashley Aufderheide (Emergence), Mace Coronel (Colin in Black & White), Maxwell Acee Donovan (Gabby Duran & The Unsittables), and Reyn Doi (Side Hustle).
“Hello, Wisconsin! It’s 1995 and Leia Forman, daughter of Eric and Donna, is visiting her grandparents for the summer where she bonds with a new generation of Point Place kids under the watchful eye of Kitty and the stern glare of Red,” reads the official synopsis. “Sex, drugs and rock ’n roll never dies, it just changes clothes.”
That ’90s Show comes from the original series creators Bonnie and Terry Turner. Producers for the project are reportedly hoping that other familiar characters from That ’70s Show will make guest appearances on the new series. Ten episodes of the series have been ordered for the multi-cam spin-off. Gregg Mettler serves as showrunner while Bonnie, Terry, and Lindsey Turner, Marcy Carsey, and Tom Werner will executive produce.
That ’70s Show debuted in 1998 and ran for eight seasons until 2006. In addition to Smith and Rupp, the series also starred Topher Grace, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Laura Prepon, and Wilmer Valderrama. Previous cast member Danny Masterson is currently set to stand trial for three rape charges in Los Angeles.
According to the report, the producers behind the reboot are currently looking for “bold writers and/or directors” to update the project, with the producers looking to address modern times in the same way that the original Easy Rider did upon release. The report mentions that filmmakers used the connection between the Creed films and the world of Rocky as a comparison for how they are looking to handle the reboot.
The original film starred Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Jack Nicholson, Luke Askew, and more, and is seen as one of the films that helped spark the New Hollywood era of filmmaking in the early 1970s. Best known for its counterculture themes, Easy Rider explored the societal landscape, issues, and tensions surrounding adolescents in the United States in the 1960s, including the rise of the hippie movement, drug use, and more.
Following its release, the film quickly became a smash hit, earning $60 million worldwide against a budget of only $400,000. The film was later nominated for Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor (Jack Nicholson) at the Academy Awards. In 1998, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress, designated as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
I didn’t know entirely what to expect when I went to see The Menu. I just thought it looked weird and funny, and that’s really all it takes to get me intrigued. While I certainly enjoyed the whole film, the character of Tyler stood out as an interesting commentary on how obsessive our culture has become.
From the beginning, we see that Hoult’s character, Tyler, is obsessive. He chides Margot for smoking since it will “ruin her palate,” despite the fact that she doesn’t care nearly as much about the whole experience. Despite occasionally slipping compliments into his dialogue, Tyler belittles Margot while repeatedly trying to prove to everyone around him that he knows what he’s talking about. He’s that guy at a party who wants to make sure everyone knows how much he knows about a semi-relevant topic, and Nicholas Hoult perfectly portrays that smarmy self-importance.
After we learn that Margot is an escort that Tyler brought while knowing she would die, it adds a whole new layer of grime to Tyler’s obsession. Not only is Tyler willing to die to eat the food that he has fanboyed over for ages, but he’s willing to sacrifice an unrelated and innocent person for his own pleasure. He’s so entrenched in his fandom over food that his life and the lives of others mean nothing so long as he gets to eat food prepared by Julian Slowik, who is wonderfully portrayed by Ralph Fiennes, as that would be the highest possible fulfillment of his dedication to his hobby. He’s so consumed by his interests that he sees no reason to live after hitting the peak of his fandom.
As someone who’s been in plenty of fan communities for video games, shows, and movies, I’ve absolutely met more than a few Tylers. When I was a cringey teenager, I guarantee I was a Tyler — that’s probably why I found his character so hilarious. When you’re figuring out your identity as you grow up, it’s fair that you’d cling to the stuff that makes you happy or makes you feel important. When you’re in your early 30s, like Tyler, it feels more like an absence of personality or genuine character than just a facet of who you are.
It’s especially easy to fall into this now, as pop culture is intensely pervasive. Social media has only enhanced this to the point where every week or so, there’s some big discourse about the latest streaming show or video game, which typically devolves into fans of said product debating about essentially nothing. I’ve definitely participated in that, as have most people who are passionate about some sort of entertainment. In a world where it feels like everything has been done, found, and discovered, it’s easier than ever to associate your worth with your devotion to other people’s art. But unlike Tyler, most people aren’t so far gone that they’re willing to die to prove they’re the biggest Marvel fan.
This isn’t some enlightened rant about how hollow culture has become. I like tons of pop culture and was half raised by the internet — I’m a prime example of someone consumed by popular media. So I am clearly not immune to this or in any way above it. I just deeply enjoyed Tyler’s character because of how annoying, self-important, and identifiable he was. He’s the hyperbolic representation of the path that we’re on; the (hopefully exaggerated) end result of modern fandom. Only time will tell if I look back on this article and say, “Wow. It was not exaggerated,” but if nothing else, The Menu definitely made me think a bit about my relationship with media and how that reflects on my own identity.
During a recent appearance on The Daily Show, Will Smith opened up about slapping Chris Rock during the 2022 Academy Awards.
Smith recounted the moment, calling it “a horrific night” and saying that, while there were a lot of nuances to it, he just “lost it” at the end of the day.
“[There are] many nuances and complexities to it, you know, but at the end of the day, I just, I lost it, you know,” Smith said. “I guess what I would say, you just never know what somebody’s going through.”
When asked if he learned anything from the moment, Smith said that the ultimate goal he took away is that people should be nice to one another and that people never really know what someone else is going through.
“You’re asking, what did I learn? And it’s that we just got to be nice to each other, man,” Smith said. “You know, it’s like, it’s hard. And I guess the thing that was most painful for me is, I took my hard and made it hard for other people. You know, it’s like, I understood the idea when they say hurt people hurt people.”
Later in the interview, Smith opened up even more, saying that the moment was the result of a lot of internal things that began bubbling and that he had to forgive himself for being human.
“It was a lot of things,” said Smith. “It was the little boy that watched his father beat up his mother, you know, is that you know, all of that just bubbled up in that moment. You know, I just that’s not who I wanna be. I had to forgive myself for being human. Trust me, there’s nobody that hates the fact that I’m human more than me. And just finding that space for myself within myself to be human. It’s like, I want, I’ve always wanted to be Superman. I’ve always wanted to swoop in and save the damsel in distress, you know. And I had to humble down, you know, and realize that I’m a flawed human, and I still have an opportunity to go out in the world and contribute in a way that fills my heart, and hopefully helps other people.”

There hasn’t been a first-person shooter set in the Starship Troopers universe since the 2005 PC game, but Offworld Industries is addressing that with its newest title, Starship Troopers: Extermination. Extermination supports 12-player co-op and is slated to come to PC in early access sometime in 2023. No console versions were announced.
While the teaser trailer only implies what the game’s tone will be and doesn’t have any gameplay, its Steam page goes into more detail. Offworld explained that the shooter will be in early access for about a year and launch with one large map — Valaka — and a roadmap.
Player feedback will shape some of what Offworld plans for the game, but the team said it will add in new weapons, enemy types, bosses, class upgrades, progression achievements, vehicles, community events, encounter types, and customization options over the year. New planets were also implied, but not directly stated. The goal is to “begin ongoing planetary battles where the player can explore new items and enemies introduced in previous updates as an epic war breaks out” during development. Offworld said it also wants to increase the “complexity and ferocity” of its development cycle when it comes out early access.
The game itself will have up to 12 players working together to gather resources and complete missions in order to build and defend a base before extracting. There will be three playable classes — Assault, Support, and Defense —and each will have new weapons, equipment, and perks. Players can also build different facilities like walls, towers, and ammo stations and use the in-game ping system to communicate.
It’ll launch with five enemy types and players can lower or heighten the difficulty to get a more fitting challenge. Offworld also noted that battles will be large and full of hundreds of aliens in order to “[deliver] the sense of an overwhelming planetary war.”
On November 27, 2002, Treasure Planet hit theaters and quickly became a cult movie that still counts many fans despite a disappointing performance at the box office. 20 years later, it’s time Disney produces some more adventures for Jim Hawkins.
In the early 2000s, Walt Disney Animation Studios was still looking for a new direction after enjoying great success in the nineties. The Disney Renaissance era officially ended with 1999’s Tarzan after delivering some all-timers like Aladdin, The Lion King, Hercules, and Mulan, among others. Those were also the years when 3D computer animation became the game changer in the wake of the new millennium. Treasure Planet was one of the most important tests Disney Animation ran, combining computer animation with traditional one. The movie wasn’t as successful as expected, but it still is a heartful story that deserves to be rewatched even nowadays.
Treasure Planet introduced very much intriguing imagery that never reached its full potential. And while it didn’t pass the theatrical test and top its production budget, the John Musker and Ron Clements-directed movie did land an Oscar nomination as Best Animated Feature that year. The plot had all a good story needs, including robots, swashbucklers, spaceships, and golden treasures. Jim is a charismatic and relatable protagonist who is looking for his place in the universe, a journey everyone undergoes at some point in their life. It’s hard not to fall for that lovable rascal and his rocket-powered sailboard.
There are different reasons Treasure Planet wasn’t a box office success, even though it was based on a very popular coming-of-age story by author Robert Louis Stevenson. The main one is its theatrical release a few months after the premiere of Lilo & Stitch, which was one of the huge critical and commercial Disney Animation successes in the early 2000s. The story had some issues, mainly due to the absence of a big, bad Disney-esque villain. Much can be said about cyborg John Silver, but he wasn’t a heartless character and fails as a villain even though he led a mutiny against the charming Captain Amelia. Lastly, the producers failed to keep the production budget at bay, which levitated until reaching $140 million. Treasure Planet still stands today as one of the most expensive traditionally animated movies in history.
With the launch of its own streaming platform, Disney has all the means to relaunch the Treasure Planet franchise and valorize it the way it should. The House of Mouse is currently focusing on the live-action adaptation of the Disney Renaissance hits, so it might be a long shot to hope for the 2002 movie to get the same treatment. However, some follow-up animated series might be relatively affordable and feasible. The movie ended right after Jim joined the Royal Interstellar Academy, there are virtually endless stories that could follow him across the countless planets in the galaxy.
Even though Treasure Planet wasn’t the perfect movie, it perfectly captured the zeitgeist of the early 2000s, when it seemed that some bright and limitless future was ahead. The film left the door open for more stories set in the same universe, but Disney didn’t believe in its potential after the film disappointed. Hopefully, things will change in the Disney+ era. In the meantime, Treasure Planet is available on the streaming service for a rewatch from time to time.
34 years after the appreciated fantasy movie made its theatrical debut, Lucasfilm is bringing back Willow Ufgood for another set of adventures. Here’s when to watch the upcoming series on Disney+ (sign-up for Disney+ here).
Disney+ set the Willow release date at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT on Wednesday, November 30. The streaming service will release the first two installments at once, while the remaining six will follow weekly. The first and only season of Willow announced — for now — will wrap up on December 28. The series hails from Jonathan Kasdan and Wendy Mericle, who serve as showrunners. The upcoming show sees Warwick Davis reprising the role of the titular hero. Joining Davis are Ellie Bamber, Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, Tony Revolori, Amar Chadha-Patel, Dempsey Bryk, and Joanne Whalley.
“The story began when an aspiring sorcerer, played by Warwick Davis, is whisked away on a journey to protect an infant empress Elora Danan and vanquish the evil Queen Bavmorda from their world of Andowyne,” reads the synopsis. “Now, the story continues with Davis reprising his titular role, as he leads an unlikely crew of heroes on a quest to protect Andowyne from an even larger foe than they had imagined possible.”
Ron Howard, the director of the original Willow, is executive producing together with Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Jonathan Kasdan, Tommy Harper, Wendy Mericle, Roopesh Parekh, and Samie Kim. Additionally, Stephen Woolfenden, Julia Cooperman, Hameed Shaukat, and Max Taylor are producing. Its lineup of writers includes John Bickerstaff, Hannah Friedman, and Jonathan Kasdan.
The last four Midnight Suns prequel shorts have told the stories of its various team members like Magik, Ghost Rider, and Blade (and its antagonist). However, this final one bonds the heroes together as one cohesive unit.
This latest animated short follows Nico and her attempts to bring the various other teammates of the Midnight Suns together. It’s told through a video message to Molly Hayes, another member of the Runaways. It’s unclear if Hayes herself will be in the game in any capacity.
In a recent interview with IGN, the actress was asked if she had any ambitions as a filmmaker, to which she said she did. According to Brown, she’s always had a fascination with filmmaking, and has always been interested in being involved with the conversations that take place in between takes on the set.
“I mean, I’ve always had a fascination with filmmaking, obviously I’m on screen all the time, but I did have a fascination with the directors, the writers, and producers of the world, and the crews that I’ve been on,” said Brown. “So I always wanted to be part of that, and every time I would go on to set, I would be starring in the projects, but actually watching the conversations between the execs and things like that, I was always in those conversations, wanting to know more, and so Netflix gave me the opportunity to produce this, which is really exciting.”
While Brown is currently busy promoting Enola Holmes 2, the actress hasn’t been shy about the future of her career. Recently, she also spoke about her dream role, which is playing Britney Spears in a potential biopic.
“I think her story, first of all, resonates with me,” Brown said at the time. “Growing up in the public eye, watching her videos, watching interviews of her when she was young. I mean, same thing with you, I see the scramble for words, and I don’t know her, but when I look at pictures of her, I feel like I could tell her story in the right way — and hers only.”
An all-timer by Paul Verhoeven is hitting Prime Video this week.
On Thursday, December 1, the streaming service will add Basic Instinct to its available content. The 1992 neo-noir thriller features Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone as detective Nick Curran and crime novelist Catherine Tramell, respectively. Curran is called to investigate the mysterious murder of a retired rock star. The main suspect is the rock star’s girlfriend, Tramell. Based on a script by Joe Eszterhas, Basic Instinct also stars George Dzundza, Jeanne Tripplehorn, and Wayne Knight. The movie took home two Academy Awards nominations for Best Film Editing and Best Original Score.
The duo of ITN Studios and Jagged Edge Productions are back with another horrific take on a childhood classic, with Dread Central reporting that a scary take on Bambi is in the works.
The upcoming film, reportedly titled Bambi: The Reckoning, will begin production in January, and has no current plot details as of now, although if Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is anything to go by, then it will be another shocking, horror-based take on the classic Disney animated film.
The upcoming movie is set to be directed by Scott Jeffrey, who will be joined by producer Rhys Frake-Waterfield, who also worked on Blood and Honey.
While not too much is known about the upcoming film, Jeffrey did reveal a bit about what to expect from the film. In a statement, Jeffrey said that the film will be a “dark retelling of the 1928 story,” and draw inspiration from Netflix’s film The Ritual.
“The film will be an incredibly dark retelling of the 1928 story we all know and love,” said Jeffrey. “Finding inspiration from the design used in Netflix’s The Ritual, Bambi will be a vicious killing machine that lurks in the wilderness. Prepare for Bambi on rabies!”
Similar to Blood and Honey, Bambi: The Reckoning will only come about thanks to the Bambi character falling back into the public domain. Thanks to the ability to now make other stories about the character, ITN and Jagged Edge are moving fast to bring a scarier take of the beloved character to the screens.
Ron Howard’s The Da Vinci Code is being added to Hulu’s available content this week.
Starting on Thursday, December 1, streaming service subscribers can watch the popular Tom Hanks-led thriller. In the story, American symbologist Robert Langdon (Hanks) is called to solve an ancestral mystery that involves versatile Italian artist Leonardo Da Vinci, the Mona Lisa painting, and the Vatican itself. The cast also features Audrey Tautou, Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina, Jürgen Prochnow, Paul Bettany, and Jean Reno. The movie debuted in 2006 and was a huge box-office success, earning more than $760 million.
The last few years have been bountiful for Resident Evil fans; at least on the game front, not so much for television and movies. Between the remakes, Resident Evil 7, Village, and now the new Shadows of Rose DLC addition to the story, there has been a ton of enjoyable content coming out in a steady stream. It surprised some people that Rose here wasn’t getting her own full game, headlining Resident Evil 9 or an offshoot of sorts, but according to the development team, this chunk of post-launch play is likely the last hoorah for the Winters family. Maybe that’s not such a bad thing. This extra story beat was quite fantastic — I just needed a little of Mia, honestly — and put a tight little bow on the excellent adventures we had in the past two adventures. Video game fans are often bad at moving on, but the time seems right to retire a few characters and let them fly a helicopter off into the sunset.
If this recent saga has taught us anything it’s that we need to be more open to new characters. Ethan, Mia, and Rose did right by us, and the best way to honor them would be to understand that their story is probably done. We can let them rest because lord knows that family has been through enough. Players could also not react poorly if the next game isn’t starring Chris, Jill, or Leon, hell, it doesn’t even need Claire or Barry, as much as people love them. Much like Ethan became the new everyman, the kickable dummy and sacrificial pound of flesh for our story, we can stand to meet someone else. Resident Evil is a bit like Tinder in that way, sometimes they just aren’t that into us and we have to stop asking them to come fight our bio-weapons — move on.
Fans don’t like to mention Resident Evil 6 much, for fear that someone will try fruitlessly to defend it, but that disaster is a solid example of Capcom mistakenly trying to bring all of their best toys together and going a little too hard when trying to up the ante for characters who had seen so much already. Hell, even several of the new protagonists they introduced had to be tied to pre-existing cast members. It was a sign of how convoluted and exhausting things had become when they tried to please the fan base too hard. Resident Evil 7 had to take things back to basics and reinvent their own homegrown survival horror genre wheel a bit while keeping the past in the background. References are fun, Umbrella is still cool, Wesker is dead, and sometimes we need to move up the hill instead of trying to crawl back down into the mud.
Okay, not everyone is like that, but I know how some of you are about your fixed cameras so I can only imagine the comments about putting beloved characters back in the toy box. Chris Redfield’s role in Village was perfect. The former boulder puncher was involved but never overtook the story. He was in the background, and when we took control of him it felt like that appropriate time to play someone who was a complete badass. The former S.T.A.R.S. member wasn’t the star, just a key player in the story, and that’s probably how Chris should stay if he’s going to keep participating in the never-ending fight against bioterrorism.
The same goes for most of these legacy characters. We need to know what happened to Jill after the events of Resident Evil 5, and she should absolutely come back, but we may not need to play her to find out the end of Ms. Valentine’s story. If we do see her as the main character again, give Jill one final adventure and send the fans home happy, but let that be the conclusion of her journey. Leon is right there, too. We’ve seen him as a young rookie, in his prime, and even on the Game Boy for those brave enough to play Gaiden, but he should be hanging up the attache case soon as well. There are a couple of other characters who aren’t quite there, like Claire, Rebecca, and Carlos, but we don’t need to keep anyone around forever, especially if their potential has already been fully explored. (If we’re putting things out into the megamycete here, I’d be down to play Sheva Alomar again.)
Ideally, the advantage behind letting some of the older institutions go is that the developers might not feel so cornered when coming up with new games. Resident Evil 7 narrowed its scope and wanted players to control someone who wasn’t a hardened zombie slayer yet, and it worked. Ethan rescued his wife, then he saved his kid, the man found out what made him capable of these things, then he died for them. What more could he ask for (he’d be boring if he was still alive)? Ethan’s daughter had her moment and finished what he hadn’t in Shadows of Rose and everyone seems better off for it. It’s a nice tight story where the few remaining questions — like what’s up with Umbrella and the BSAA — can be answered in someone else’s story. We’ll remember our time with the Winters family as a pleasant one, where they didn’t overstay their welcome.
I’m in no way saying our previous heroes were bad or aren’t deserving of more time in the spotlight, but they wouldn’t want to be the reason more good games weren’t made. I’m looking forward to the future, meeting new people who have to deal with a world where all of this exists, exploring new places and fresh ideas, and letting those who came before rest in a cushy little Raccoon City retirement home.
The recently released DC film Black Adam saw the much-anticipated return of Henry Cavill as Superman, a move that actor Dwayne Johnson says Warner Bros. Discovery initially didn’t want to happen.
In a new video celebrating Black Adam becoming the No. 1 movie on iTunes, Johnson praises Cavill’s return, noting that if they wanted to establish Black Adam as one of the most powerful beings in DC, they had to bring back “the most powerful, unstoppable force of all time in any universe,” which of course is Superman.
However, Johnson then seemingly takes some shots at the higher-ups of the then-DC Films, noting that they “inexplicably and inexcusably” did not want Cavill to return. While Johnson didn’t speak much more about that, he did note that they weren’t going to take no for an answer, and continued to fight for Cavill’s return.

“And you guys know who I’m talking about. Of course, that is Superman, and that’s Henry Cavill,” Johnson said. “And at the end of the day, the studio was not bringing Henry Cavill back, inexplicably and inexcusably. But we weren’t going to take no for an answer. Myself, my Seven Bucks co-founder and chairwoman, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, our Seven Bucks president. This has been years in the making regarding bringing Henry Cavill back. And years of strategic conversations, and we were not gonna take no for an answer.”
Johnson went on to say that it simply made no sense from a strategic and business standpoint to continue building out the DC Universe and not have Superman involved in it. The star then went on to say that Cavill is “our generation’s Superman,” and “the greatest Superman,” in his opinion.
“And also, something else to think about is, for us, there was no way, there’s no viable, logical way that you can attempt to build out the DC universe without the most powerful force and the greatest superhero of all time sitting on the sidelines,” said Johnson. “It’s impossible to do. You can Venn diagram, business-wise, this whole thing 90 different times. But it all comes back to, ‘Where’s Superman?’ You have to have Superman in the mix.
“So that’s why we fought hard to bring Superman back, Henry Cavill. And there was no other Superman, by the way, to bring back. Henry Cavill is our generation’s Superman and, in my opinion, the greatest Superman. And I mean that respectfully to the other actors, especially Christopher Reeve. But the greatest Superman of all time.”

The latest Marvel’s Midnight Suns gameplay trailer details combat from a much broader perspective, showcasing how players will be battling against enemies.
Unlike past videos, which have detailed specific characters in the upcoming game, this latest trailer is an overview of combat as a whole. Footage of various superheroes’ moves is cut together with gameplay and shows off how players use cards to fight against enemies and string together various combos and moves in a strategic sense.
The video comes after a ton of promotion for the game has dropped over the past couple of weeks, in the form of new character-specificcombatoverviews, as well as various prequel shorts for the game featuring Blade, Lilith, Magik, and Ghost Rider.
