It was announced in August that South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker had signed a new deal with ViacomCBS for $900 million, which included a multi-season renewal of the hit animated comedy series at Comedy Central, as well as 14 original South Park movies that will debut on Paramount+. Stone and Parker recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and clarified that the films will be two hourlong made-for-TV movies per year on the streamer.

The first hourlong movie, South Park: Post Covid, will debut exclusively on Paramount+ on November 25, with a second made-for-TV film arriving in December.
“It’s the boys dealing with a post-Covid world. They’re just trying to get back to normal,” Parker said. “So, it is like our show. We’re just trying to get back to normal.”
The recently inked deal with ViacomCBS runs through 2027 and, as previously reported, includes the series being renewed through Season 30 and 14 Paramount+ projects.
“With Viacom, we realized we could make them as long or as short as we needed,” Parker said. “And they then went and called them movies. They are the ones who said we are giving them 14 movies in seven years. All I can say is for me, personally, I am 52 years old, I have made three movies in my life. So you do the math.”

“We’re trying to make what’s on Paramount+ different from anywhere else, so hourlong made-for-TV movies is where our head is at. We’ll do two made-for-TV movies every year. They will be big, but they are not quite movie scale,” added Stone.
The outlet adds that the crew is creating and producing the series and projects remotely while their Marina del Rey studio remains closed during the pandemic.
