Variance Films has shared the official trailer for O Horizon, the upcoming sci-fi comedy drama starring Academy Award nominees Maria Bakalova and David Strathairn. Following its world premiere at the 2025 Santa Barbara International Film Festival, the movie is now finally set to arrive in theaters starting on June 12 in New York and on June 19 in Los Angeles.
“A neuroscientist mourning the loss of her father is suddenly able to speak with him through a new technology, causing her to question everything from her relationships to her life’s work,” reads the official synopsis. “Writer and director Madeleine Rotzler crafts a magical realist fable for our modern era that considers our relationships amid rapidly evolving technologies with warmth and humor.”
The video shows Bakalova as a young woman whose beloved father had just passed away. As a way to cope with her grief, she goes to the “Seeking a Friend Store,” a place that can recreate the voice of any person that a customer wants to hang out with. Because of this, she’s now able to talk to an A.I. voice of her father through phone calls. However, this proves difficult when the A.I. version of her father starts affecting her personal life.
O Horizon is written and directed by Rotzler. The ensemble cast also includes Adam Pally (Sonic the Hedgehog), Maggie Grace (Taken), Avi Nash (The Walking Dead), Paulina Porizkova (Wedding Bell Blues), and Aimee Mann (The Big Lebowski). It is produced by Rotzler, Paul Nelson, Audrey Tommassini, and Joseph Cross, with Mark Gill serving as an executive producer. The film also won the SBIFF Panavision Spirit Award for Independent Cinema.
The box office outlook for the animated film Animal Farm is looking dismal. Releasing on May 1 in the United States, this adaptation of the famous 1945 novella by George Orwell would seem to have a lot of advantages, at least on paper. It’s directed by Andy Serkis, who is known for Venom: Let There Be Carnage and his work on The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the voice cast features the likes of Seth Rogen, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Steve Buscemi, and Woody Harrelson. And it follows the trend of animated films featuring talking animals. However, critics and audiences have not reacted well to the film turning the book into a kids movie, which has contributed to a worryingly low box office prediction for the Aniventure and Cinesite production.
How much is Animal Farm expected to earn in its domestic opener?
The 2026 animated film Animal Farm is predicted to earn $2.5 million, in the range of $1.5 million to $5 million, in its domestic opener from May 1 to May 3. It’s projected to rake in $6.25 million, or somewhere between $3.75 million and $15.3 million, over its entire domestic run in theatres.
This box office prediction comes from a late April report by analytics site BoxOfficeTheory, which has adjusted its projection for the movie downward. In a report made a week prior, it believed that the film would earn $8 million, in the range of $6 million to $15 million, over its domestic opening weekend. A separate forecast from BoxOffice Pro provides a more optimistic outlook for the movie, predicting in early April that it would get $5 million to $7 million in its domestic opener (at the time of writing, this projection has not changed since).
Still, these are relatively low numbers when compared to the box office performances of other films in the genre. Pixar’s Hoppers that released earlier this year had a domestic opening of $45 million, and GOAT from Sony Pictures Animation crossed the $27 million mark in its domestic opener. It’s looking like Animal Farm will have a similar trajectory as the 2016 video game adaptation Ratchet & Clank, which made $4.8 million in its domestic opener and $13 million worldwide.
Animal Farm has struggled throughout its production, with the film being announced in 2011 with director Rupert Wyatt before Serkis took over as director in 2012. Six years later in 2018, Netflix acquired the distribution rights for the film but later dropped the project in 2022 when Cinesite, Aniventure, and the Imaginarium Productions were brought on instead. The movie finally had its world premiere on June 9, 2025, at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France.
Reviews for this reimagining of Animal Farm have been brutal. As of April 29, it has a 26% critics rating based on 23 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and a “generally unfavorable” score of 33 on Metacritic. Many reviews were disappointed by the film’s family-friendly approach on Orwell’s book that critiques Stalin’s totalitarian regime, with The Hollywood Reporter’s Frank Scheck writing that “this version sacrifices the story’s powerful and social themes in favor of by-the-numbers plotting.” This echoes audience reactions to the film’s official trailer in December 2025 on YouTube that has received over 19,000 likes but more than 220,000 dislikes (by way of the Return YouTube Dislike Google Chrome extension).
The film faces plenty of competition too with its early May release, given the continued strength of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and the rising momentum of The Devil Wears Prada 2 that comes out on the same day as Animal Farm. Then releasing one week later on May 8, the CGI and live-action film The Sheep Detectives starring Hugh Jackman which offers another family-friendly option with talking animals.
The upcoming supernatural horror movie Obsession, the first major film from YouTube star Curry Barker, is already on the path of becoming a box office hit. Some might know Curry for his sketch-comedy YouTube channel “that’s a bad idea” where he has over 1 million followers or his surprise horror movie Milk & Serial that was posted on the channel in 2024 and has earned more than 2.3 million views. His work on the platform impressed horror producers enough that he was given the opportunity to write and direct his first feature film, Obsession, which follows music store employee Bear (Michael Johnston) who uses a toy to wish that his friend Nikki (Inde Navarrette) would fall in love with him. Slated to release on May 15, 2026 in the US, this Focus Features and Blumhouse Productions film has already received rave reviews and positive box office predictions.
First feature film from YouTube’s Curry Barker is getting great box office predictions
Curry Barker’s Obsession is projected to earn around $7 million, more specifically in the range of $5 million to $15 million, in its domestic opening weekend from May 15 to May 17. Over its full theatrical run in the US and Canada, it’s expected to earn $18 million, or somewhere between $10 million and $43 million.
These numbers comes from a late April report from analytics site BoxOfficeTheory. This box office prediction is more optimistic than the $4 million to $6 million range from a mid-April BoxOffice Pro forecast on the film’s domestic opener. That said, Obsession is trending upward, as the site’s latest projections on April 24 have raised its projections to a range of $5 million to $8 million.
From the outset, these projections might seem low and comparable to two other films that are also releasing on May 15. For their domestic openers, BoxOfficeTheory predicts the action flick In the Grey to bring in $6 million to $11 million, while the revenge movie Is God Is has a $4 million to $7.5 million projection. And we should not forget that Obsession is sandwiched between two major blockbusters in a very busy May calendar: Mortal Kombat 2 releasing on May 8 and Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu that comes out on May 22.
However, the production budget for Obsession is extraordinarily low at a mere $1 million, per The Hollywood Reporter. That means that the film only needs to cross the $2.5 million mark at the box office to be a success, and this threshold could be even lower given that the general rule that a movie needs to make 2.5 times its budget to break even is meant more for blockbusters. At any rate, the projections for the movie already have it being a box office hit in just its first weekend.
The movie can be compared to another box office success this year, the horror film Iron Lung, which was directed and written by YouTube’s Mark “Markiplier” Fischbach. Releasing on January 30, that film had a mere budget of $3 million, yet passed the $50 million mark worldwide, as reported by Box Office Mojo.
Much of the momentum behind Obsession comes from its audience support and stellar reviews. Obsession’s official teaser trailer released in December 2025 has received over 7 million views so far. As of April 28, the film has received an outstanding 96% rating from critics based on 50 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Several sites and channels dedicated to the horror genre, such as HorrorBuzz and YouTube’s spookastronauts, have given the film a perfect score. The movie received recognition last year when it premiered during the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in September, where it earned the first runner-up prize for the People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award.
With these positive reactions, it’s no surprise that Curry Barker has been hired by A24 to write and direct the upcoming reboot for Glen Powell’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
After years of trying, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke is finally giving audiences a Supernatural reunion in the fifth and final season of the hit Prime Video series.
How did The Boys’ Supernatural reunion happen?
Ever since Jensen Ackles joined The Boys in Season 3 as Soldier Boy, Supernatural fans have been wanting to see Ackles’ former co-stars, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins, also appear on the superhero satire. However, scheduling was always an issue as Padalecki was busy fronting his own CW show, Walker.
When Walker was announced to be ending, Kripke shared with ComicBookMovies.com in a new interview that he immediately told the writers to find a role for Padalecki to play in The Boys Season 5.
“I’ve wanted to get Jared and Misha on the show for some time . . . I knew [Jared] had a window that he could do this. So, in the beginning of the season, I just said to the writers, I said, you know, I want him for an episode, and I want him to play more than a cameo,” he recalled. “I want him to be a real character that really moves the story forward and changes the story, so just keep your eye open for where that is. I didn’t know heading into the season that, for sure, he was going to go play that character.”
Kripke went on to explain how the perfect part for Padalecki was in an episode that included another character that needed to be cast, which ended up being the role that Collins plays in the season.
“I forget who in the room said it, but someone’s like, well, this is the perfect one for Jared. And I’m like, that is the perfect part for Jared. So, then I texted him and said, Hey, are you available on these dates, because we have this character that is really tied into the history of the show, which I really like,” Kripke continued. “It sort of honors Jared in the right way, because it’s a character that’s been referenced since season one, and he was available.”
“And then, we knew we had this other superhero Malchemical in it, so we have to give that to Misha. We could do Jared, Jensen and Misha, and they could all be together. That would be amazing. And luckily, Misha was available too. So, it was a blast. It was like going back home and hanging out with your high school friends in the best way. It was just so much fun,” Kripke added.
A first look at the upcoming The Boys episode featuring Padalecki and Collins can be viewed below.
The long-awaited Supernatural reunion takes place in The Boys Season 5, Episode 5, “One-Shots,” which will be released on Prime Video on April 29, 2026.

Sony Pictures Classics’ R-rated drama movie starring BAFTA nominee Dakota Johnson and Academy Award winner Sean Penn has finally found a new streaming home on Hulu. As of today, the 2024 film Daddio is now officially available to stream on Hulu.
What do we know about Dakota Johnson’s NSFW movie?
Daddio was written and directed by Christy Hall. In the film, Johnson plays a young woman named Girlie, who unexpectedly bonds with her cab driver through a meaningful conversation. Following its world premiere at the 2023 Telluride Film Festival, the movie has maintained its Certified Fresh score of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 114 reviews. Meanwhile, its Popcornmeter score is slightly higher at 89%.
“New York City. JFK airport. A young woman jumps into the backseat of a yellow taxi, the cabbie throws the vehicle into drive as the two head out into the night toward Manhattan, striking up the most unexpected conversation, resulting in a single, epic, remarkable journey,” reads the film’s official synopsis.
The R-rated drama film was produced by Hall, Johnson, Ro Donnelly, Terry Dougas, and Paris Kassidokostas-Latsis. Executive producers were Christopher Donnelly, Jean-Luc De Fanti, Kostas Tsoukalas, and Max Work. The creative team consisted of editor Lisa Zeno Churgin, director of photography Phedon Papamichael, composer Dickon Hinchliffe, production designer Kristi Zea, and costume designer Mirren Gordon-Crozier.
Johnson’s most recent acting credit was A24’s latest romantic comedy Materialists, which was also led by Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal. She will next be seen in the upcoming film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s 2018 thriller novel Verity, which will also star Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett. As for Penn, he recently won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in 2025’s One Battle After Another.
After getting snubbed for a Blu-ray release, Greg Harrison’s Groove is finally available to own in high definition with the new Groove 4K release. The 2000 movie was an interesting look at the San Francisco underground rave scene and has aged well in the past 25 years. Featuring a great soundtrack and an array of worthwhile special features, it’s a packed release worth checking out.
“You are invited to the hottest party of the year. Groove is the hip, hilarious hit of the 2000 Sundance Film Festival that has audiences and critics raving from coast-to-coast. As the sun goes down on Saturday night, rave kids Colin and Harmony take their relationship to the next level, veteran clubgoer Leyla surfs the Internet for a lift to the rave, and workaholic David just wants to make it home in one piece. By sunrise, romances ignite, hearts break, and lives are changed forever,” says the official description.
Impressively shot in just over two weeks, Groove is a fun hangout film that jumps around different characters at the same all-night rave. While none of the stories are particularly deep, they’re all a fun watch, and you get to see a few notable actors like Hamish Linklater, Lola Gladuini, and Nick Offerman appear. There’s a good style to it, and the film moves well with its brisk 86-minute runtime being to its advantage.
The Groove 4K release looks and sounds fantastic. The HDR implementation works great for the rave scenes, and its DTS-HD 5.1 audio mix allows for the bass to really shine. It’s a significant upgrade from the previous DVD release, and it’s a no-brainer upgrade.
While none of the Groove 4K bonus features are new, there’s a good amount of them to check out. The meatiest is the commentary track featuring Harrison, producer Danielle Renfrew, and DP Matt Irving, which is both informative and a fun listen as they do a good job bouncing between fun stories from filming and their creative choices. The set also features six minutes of extended and deleted scenes, another six minutes of BTS footage, plus a camera test for the slow-motion segment, several casting auditions, and a music video for the song “Heaven Scent” by Bedrock.
Groove 4K Review: Final Verdict
The Groove 4K is another strong transfer from Sony. No matter if you’re revisiting Harrison’s rave movie or watching it for the first time, it’s a fun time capsule with a kicking soundtrack. Fans can’t go wrong with this release.
Disclosure: ComingSoon received product from the distributor for our Groove 4K review.
Trainwreck, an R-rated comedy featuring LeBron James in a notable supporting role, is set to arrive on Netflix soon. Originally released in theaters in 2015, the film will be returning to audiences through a new digital window.
Trainwreck begins streaming on Netflix in May
Trainwreck is set to begin streaming on Netflix from May 1, 2026, according to What’s on Netflix. Directed by Judd Apatow, the film first premiered in U.S. theaters on July 17, 2015. It is now set to reach a wider streaming audience.
The film centers on Amy Townsend, played by Amy Schumer, a magazine writer whose views on relationships are shaped by her upbringing. Influenced by her parents’ separation, she grew up believing that long-term commitment is unrealistic. As an adult, she embraces a lifestyle built around casual relationships and avoiding emotional attachment.
However, her lifestyle begins to change when she is assigned to interview sports doctor Aaron Conners, portrayed by Bill Hader. Though it starts as a professional assignment, it quickly turns into a romantic relationship. But Amy struggles to adjust to the expectations of a committed partnership. As their bond deepens, she is forced to confront her fears about intimacy and whether she is capable of sustaining a meaningful relationship.
Upon its release, Trainwreck received strong reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds an 84 percent score from critics based on 288 reviews. Meanwhile, its audience score stands at 65 percent. The Independent Critic noted in their review that “Trainwreck is an entertaining and emotionally honest film that comes from a comic, writer, and actress who has proven herself to be willing to share both her brilliance and her bulls**t with equal transparency.”
The film also earned recognition across multiple award bodies, including the Critics’ Choice Awards, the Hollywood Film Awards, and the Las Vegas Film Critics Society.
Scarlett Johansson’s 2019 black comedy will be added to Peacock’s content library very soon. The Oscar-winning film is a bittersweet story of a young German boy with a comical version of Adolf Hitler as his imaginary friend, as he discovers a Jewish girl hidden in his home.
Jojo Rabbit to stream on Peacock next month
Peacock subscribers can stream Jojo Rabbit on the platform starting Friday, May 1, 2026.
The film is based on Christine Leunens’ 2004 book, Caging Skies. Taika Waititi directed and wrote the screenplay for it. He reportedly had the idea for the film back in 2010 when his mother introduced him to Leunens’ book (via Vanity Fair).
The story follows Jojo, a young German boy growing up in Nazi Germany during World War II. He not only admires Adolf Hitler, but also has a comical version of him as an imaginary friend. Jojo’s beliefs are challenged when he learns that his mother, Rosie, is harboring a Jewish girl, Elsa, in their house. He gradually forms an unlikely friendship with the young girl.
Jojo Rabbit stars Scarlett Johansson as Rosie, Roman Griffin Davis as Jojo, Thomasin McKenzie as Elsa, Sam Rockwell as Captain Klenzendorf, Rebel Wilson as Fräulein Rahm, Alfie Allen as Finkel, and Waititi as Adolf Hitler.
Fox Searchlight Pictures handled the film’s distribution and held its premiere at the 44th Toronto International Film Festival. The company later released Jojo Rabbit worldwide on October 18, 2019. The film found immense success on both critical and commercial fronts.
At the box office, it grossed $90 million against a modest $14 million budget. Critically, it has an impressive 81% Tomatometer score and 94% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, it has a weighted average user score of 7.9.
The following year, Jojo Rabbit received six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for Scarlett Johansson. It ultimately won one: Best Adapted Screenplay for Waititi.

Early predictions for the 2027 Oscars show that the upcoming stop-motion film Wildwood could win over Toy Story 5. This is a surprise given that the Pixar sequel, which is slated to release on June 19, is expected to be a box office smash and tops a Fandango survey as the most-anticipated movie this summer. That said, the studio behind Wildwood, Laika, has a strong record at the Academy Awards. Every one of its movies have been nominated for Best Animated Feature, though none of them have won the category. But given the huge production behind Wildwood, which is scheduled to come out on October 23, it has the chance to pull off a major upset over Toy Story 5 at the 99th Academy Awards.
2027 could be the year Laika Studios finally gets an Oscar
Laika’s Wildwood is predicted to be a major contender for Best Animated Feature at the 2027 Oscars.
A prediction market on Kalshi reveals that Wildwood has a strong chance to be nominated in the category at 79%. Meanwhile, Toy Story 5 sits right behind with a 77% chance for a nomination. In fact, the film might need to watch out for Pixar’s Hoppers instead, since it has a 85% chance. Other options in the bet include Forgotten Island (64%), Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom (47%), and Ray Gunn (39%). Of course, it’s important to take these predictions with a grain of salt, as it’s still incredibly early in 2026 and these odds will likely change after critics and audiences have their say.
Directed by Travis Knight, the movie is an adaptation of the 2011 novel of the same name by Colin Meloy (who some may know as the frontman for The Decemberists) and his wife and illustrator Carson Ellis. It follows teenager Prue McKeel (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) and her classmate Curtis Mehlberg (Jacob Tremblay) as they enter the dangerous woods near Portland to save her little brother Mac from a murder of crows. The film’s voice cast includes Awkwafina, Mahershala Ali, Charlie Day, Tom Waits, and Angela Bassett as a giant golden eagle named the General.
Though Wildwood won’t come out until the fall, the film is gaining attention and early award buzz. IndieWire’s Wilson Chapman says that he’s “almost confident that Wildwood will be a nominee” for an Oscar and to “consider it one of the biggest contenders.” The movie’s official featurette that released in October 2025 has received a total of 17.7 million views on YouTube, which is nearly twice as much as its title reveal in 2024 had.
It’s been seven years since Laika has had a major film release. Its most notable movies would be 2009’s Coraline and 2016’s Kubo and the Two Strings, though the rest of its catalog of feature films — ParaNorman (2012), The Boxtrolls (2014), and Missing Link (2019) — have been given an Oscar nod. This is part of the reason why movie buffs think that it’s about time that Laika wins an Academy Award, as noted by comments in a thread on the r/Oscars Reddit.
As for Toy Story 5, it’s still the frontrunner to win the Best Animated Film Oscar. Apart from being almost assuredly a summer blockbuster that could rival The Super Mario Galaxy Movie at the box office, both Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4 took home the Academy Award in the category. The Toy Story franchise has clear name recognition as well, which could make it the default choice for many Academy voters. However, Pixar has not been able to win in the category for the last five years, with Oscars going to Disney’s Encanto (2021), Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (2022), The Boy and the Heron (2023), Flow (2024), and KPop Demon Hunters (2025).
In a surprise piece of news, a movie based on the Battlefield video game franchise is in the works, with Oscar-winner Michael B. Jordan attached to the project.
What do we know about the Battlefield movie?
According to a new report from THR, Jordan is attached to produce a new movie based on the video game franchise. Currently, it’s unclear if he’ll star in the movie, but THR reports that Christopher McQuarrie, who has directed several Mission: Impossible films, is attached to write, direct, and produce the film.
Jordan’s status as a star in the movie remains up in the air as of now. THR notes that he could “possibly star” in the movie, although it currently depends on several factors as of now. Electronic Arts, the publisher behind the Battlefield franchise, is also attached as a producer. The movie is currently being presented to studios, with THR noting that the movie “will not be cheap,” and that there will likely be a bidding war for the project.
McQuarrie’s latest film was 2025’s Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, while Jordan’s next project is set to be his The Thomas Crown Affair remake, which he’s set to direct and star in alongside Adria Arjona, which releases on March 5, 2027.
The Battlefield franchise originally started in 2002, with Battlefield 1942. The series is mainly comprised of online multiplayer shooters, and focuses on realistic military combat. The latest game in the series, Battlefield 6, released in 2025, which released to stellar reviews.
Margaret Qualley’s new horror movie, described as a “startling new vision of supernatural forces,” has just received an exciting update.
The upcoming movie, titled King Snake, will see Qualley starring alongside Drew Starkey as a young couple whose new life in rural Arkansas quickly unravels into something far more sinister. Nuremberg and Death by Lightning actor Michael Shannon is also attached to the project as a cast member.
What is the latest King Snake update?
Filming is currently underway in Arkansas on King Snake. It is directed by Jeff Nichols, the filmmaker behind The Bikeriders, Loving, Midnight Special, Mud, and Shotgun Stories. Nichols also directed Take Shelter, a psychological thriller in which Shannon also starred.
Per Deadline, the Southern gothic horror movie “follows a young couple (Qualley and Starkey) who inherit a farm in rural Arkansas and must conquer the demons, both physical and metaphysical, that haunt its legacy…forces of good and evil collide in a terrifying film where real-world challenges crash headlong into other worldly creatures and myths.”
Nichols is also producing the project in association with Range Media Partners, alongside Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Sarah Green. FilmNation (the distribution company behind films like Anora, Conclave, The Life of Chuck, and more) is in charge of worldwide sales.
FilmNation’s new Chief Creative Officer, Stacey Snider, in a statement said: “Jeff’s startling new vision of supernatural forces is as extraordinary as it is enthralling, and we can’t wait for this incredible story to bewitch and captivate audiences around the world.”
Qualley, best known for her role as Sue in the acclaimed body horror film The Substance, boasts quite an impressive filmography. Her feature credits include Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Sanctuary, Poor Things, Kinds of Kindness, and — most recently — How to Make a Killing.
Starkey, on the other hand, is known for his roles in Hellraiser, The Other Zoey, Queer, and Netflix’s mystery teen drama Outer Banks.
Other details about King Snake have yet to be unveiled.
Clueless is the iconic coming-of-age comedy movie that was released in 1995. Written and directed by Amy Heckerling, it stars Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horowitz, Paul Rudd as Josh Lucas, Stacey Dash as Dionne Davenport, Brittany Murphy as Tai Frasier, and more.
There’s been talk about making a Clueless television show for years. It seemed like the project was finally happening when it was announced last year that the series was back on track for development for Peacock and that Silverstone would be reprising her role.
What is the update on the Clueless TV show?
Per Variety, it has now been announced that the Clueless show is no longer moving forward at Peacock.
The reason why the series won’t be happening at Peacock has not been revealed. On the contrary, Variety’s article states, “According to sources, CBS Studios and Paramount remain high on the project and the IP. Given the rabid fanbase for the film and the auspices it boasts, it is expected to generate significant interest in the marketplace when it is taken out to buyers once again.”
This makes it sound like there could be some hope for the show to someday get made, though whether or not that actually happens remains to be seen.
Plot details for the Clueless TV show were not revealed, though it is known that it was supposed to once again follow Cher years after the events of the original movie.
Heckerling was named as an executive producer on the project alongside Silverstone and Robert Lawrence. Additionally, Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Jordan Weiss were all named as writers and executive producers for the show.
“Peacock had previously developed a wholly separate Clueless project in 2020 that would have focused on Cher’s best friend Dionne, but that ultimately did not move beyond development,” Variety’s article also notes.
Neon has shared the official trailer for Leviticus, the upcoming horror thriller from Australian filmmaker Adrian Chiarella. The movie had its world premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival last January. It is now scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 19, 2026.
The video introduces two young star-crossed lovers who are forced to undergo a religious conversion ritual by their conservative community. However, the ritual turns into an even more terrifying nightmare when it unexpectedly summons a violent entity, which lures its victims by taking on the form of what the person desires the most. The teenage boys must find a way to escape the supernatural entity and their town before it’s too late. The trailer also provides a glimpse of some of the movie’s suspense-filled sequences.
Leviticus is written and directed by Chiarella in his feature-length directorial debut. The movie stars Mia Wasikowska, Joe Bird, Stacy Clausen, Ewen Leslie, Nicholas Hope, Jeremy Blewitt, Davida McKenzie, and Edwina Wren. Following its world premiere, it has already garnered an approval rating of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 26 reviews. Neon acquired the distribution rights to the film in a seven-figure deal.
“The film follows two teenage boys living in a conservative Christian community in regional Victoria. When their attraction to each other is identified by the local pastor, the pair are subjected to a disturbing conversion ritual, which unknowingly releases a violent entity that terrorizes the town,” reads the synopsis. “As Naim and Ryan attempt to survive the bigotry of their fellow town members, they must also defend themselves against the unleashed spiritual being that takes the form of the thing the boys desire most — each other.”
The first promotional image from DC Studios‘ Clayface movie has finally been revealed, featuring lead star Tom Rhys Harries as up-and-coming actor Matt Hagen.
The image gives fans a glimpse at the character’s promising career before the tragic event that disfigures his face. This comes ahead of the DC Universe body horror film’s highly anticipated theatrical release on October 23, 2026.
What does the Clayface photo tell us about the DCU movie’s themes?
The newly released image shows Matt Hagen on the front page cover of an entertainment magazine, calling him a “rising star.” This is reminiscent of the character’s backstory from Batman: The Animated Series, in which he was introduced as a once-famous actor. In the original show, Hellboy star Ron Perlman voiced Hagen, whose transformation into Clayface was triggered by a car accident that left him with a disfigured face. Fearing for his acting career, he grabbed the opportunity to work with corrupt businessman Roland Daggett, who gave him a beauty cream that could restore his face while also gaining the ability to transform into another person. In exchange for his cream supply, he must commit crimes on behalf of Daggett, including impersonating Bruce Wayne.
At the moment, it remains unknown if the upcoming Clayface movie will also be influenced by some parts of the character’s storyline in the animated show. However, with the magazine cover serving as the film’s first promo, it’s clear that the film’s themes will indeed lean on the character’s obsession with fame, vanity, and image as a celebrity. This makes it the perfect setup for the story’s dive into body horror. This is something that moviegoers have seen before with acclaimed movies like 2024’s The Substance. However, this kind of movie is definitely unique among superhero movies, making Clayface a standout.
The magazine cover of Matt Hagen also seemingly teased the creative team’s intention of holding off the character’s Clayface transformation reveal, building fans’ anticipation for the film. This is also a way for fans to connect with the character’s celebrity persona, making his horrific transformation more heartbreaking and terrifying.
Unlike most of the superhero movies that fans are used to getting, the live-action Clayface movie will tell a more grounded, human story by not relying on massive budgets and CGI effects. In a previous interview, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn confirmed that the upcoming R-rated film will feature lots of practical effects as they aimed to replicate old-school body horror.
The new DCU film is directed by James Watkins, with horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan writing the screenplay. It is based on the fan-favorite villain created by writer Bill Finger and artist Sheldon Moldoff for DC Comics. The ensemble cast also includes Naomi Ackie, Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, and David Dencik.

ComingSoon editor-in-chief Tyler Treese spoke with Sleepers director Barry Levinson about the film for its 30th anniversary and new 4K release. The film features a stacked cast of Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Kevin Bacon, Brad Pitt, and Jason Patric. It is now available on 4K UHD from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
“Four ordinary boys. A harmless prank gone awry. Their childhood innocence forever shattered, they vow to avenge its loss in the haunting drama Sleepers. Sentenced to spend time at a reform school for their reckless behavior, four basically good boys from a bad neighborhood suffer a horrible fate while there. Forced to perform unspeakable acts by the very adults entrusted to watch over them, the young quartet barely survives the ordeal. A decade and a half later, nothing can erase the painful memories. But neighborhood justice, with a little support from a loyal priest, helps even the score. Academy Award-winners Robert De Niro and Dustin Hoffman team up with international superstars Kevin Bacon, Brad Pitt, and Jason Patric, along with Academy Award-winning director Barry Levinson (Rain Man), in this compelling drama of shocking retribution. Based on the novel by Lorenzo Carcaterra,” says the official description.
Tyler Treese: Barry, such a pleasure to speak with you. Huge fan of your work, and I love Sleepers. You had obviously worked with Kevin Bacon on Diner, but he’s truly fearful in Sleepers. What made you think of him for this role? It was such a genius stroke of casting.
Barry Levinson: I knew that he was really talented, and I thought he could be interesting in this. Yes, he did Diner, and that was one type of character, but I always thought he had a wider range. When I was working on the script, I was thinking maybe he could play something like this. So it worked out.
Yeah, we got a whole different range of performances, that’s for sure. I think Sleepers really awakened that for other people.
When Sleepers came out, there was controversy about how much was true about it, and it’s even referenced in the text at the end of the film. Decades removed, we can all enjoy the film as the great piece of art that it is, but what were your thoughts on that becoming an issue? It seemed like they were ignoring what was important about it and just arguing over whether it was true or not.
No, I agree. It probably would’ve been better if it didn’t say “based on a true story” or any of those things. It’s not like saying everything is a true story. It was based on something, and the story was worthwhile to tell. It has all the complications to it, and you can ultimately see it different ways. It’s certainly open for people to be talking about, which is one of the aspects of making a movie. I thought it was valid in the story that we were telling.
Tyler Treese: Revisiting this film — it just got a great 4K release. I was interested in the use of narration because narration can be very divisive in films. I thought Sleepers does it so well, and it’s a central part of the film, especially early on. We learn so much from it, and it adds character. What’s the key to doing narration right?
Barry Levinson: In this case, the story is being told, as opposed to being laid out differently. He’s telling the story of what happened when he was younger, so it was valid to the form. What you always wonder about is that you don’t want to overstate things, you don’t want to talk too often, and you don’t want to be too busy throughout the film. It’s about finding the balance that serves the purpose of storytelling and the nature of the film itself.
It just seemed appropriate. It’s one of those things when you’re doing a film based on a novel and then adapting it into a screenplay. To be honest, as time has gone by, I can’t remember what was in the book and what was added that I wrote. It’s all a bit of a blur, which isn’t important in terms of who did what. But it was important to say this is what happened in the end. There isn’t a happy ending in that regard, and it seemed appropriate to the film and consistent with the storytelling in general.
Barry, you’ve worked with Robert De Niro so many times. What did you like most about this priest role? Because he still has that street-smart quality to him, which I really like.
Barry Levinson: What I liked about it is that he was a street priest. He grew up on the streets and understands that world. He also understands the religious aspects of it. I like that quality, and he’s an understated character. I thought Bob did a great job. He’s not bombastic or fighting in that way. There’s a quietness about him and a certain quiet dignity in his performance that I thought was very valuable in portraying the priest.
Thanks to Barry Levinson for taking the time to talk about Sleepers.
