Alien: Romulus Is a Mix of Alien and Aliens, According to Director

Alien: Romulus Timeline: When Does It Take Place? Is It a Sequel or Prequel?

The upcoming Alien: Romulus aims to be a mix of two of what fans consider to be the best Alien films in the franchise.

Speaking to Empire Magazine, director Fede Álvarez spoke about his inspiration for the film, and how he wanted to make sure fans of both 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens were satisfied.

“To ask an Alien fan to choose between them is a perverse question,” Álvarez said. “So I thought, ‘How do I do both?’ There’s a moment where the characters are walking around areas familiar from the Nostromo. Then they cross through that building and on the other side: boom! You’re in a hallway that looks like Hadley’s Hope [from Aliens].”

Alien: Romulus is set to release in theaters on August 16, 2024.

What is Alien: Romulus about?

“While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe,” reads the movie’s official synopsis.

Alien: Romulus will be the fourth film directed by Fede Álvarez. It’s from a screenplay he co-wrote with Rodo Sayagues based on characters made by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett. The film’s cast includes Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), David Jonsson (Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Isabela Merced (The Last of Us), Spike Fearn (Aftersun), and Aileen Wu. Alien and Prometheus director/creator Ridley Scott is producing alongside Michael Pruss and Walter Hill.

Executive producers for the film include Fede Álvarez, Elizabeth Cantillon (Charlie’s Angels), Brent O’Connor (Bullet Train), and Tom Moran (Unstoppable).

Finding Nemo 3: Pixar CCO Sees ‘A Lot of Opportunity There’

Pete Docter, the chief creative officer (CCO) for Pixar, says there are “lots of opportunities” for a third Finding Nemo movie.

Speaking with Bloomberg, Docter hinted that, while Finding Nemo 3 has not been confirmed at this time, the company was considering making another entry in the film franchise.

“Where else have we not gone in the ocean? The ocean’s a big place. I think there’s a lot of opportunity there. We’re kind of fishing around—ha-ha,” he said.

When did the first two Finding Nemo movies come out?

Directed by Andrew Stanton, Finding Nemo was released in United States theaters in May 2003. It ended up being a huge financial hit, bringing in approximately $940.3 million (including a 3D rerelease in 2012) at the global box office off a budget of around $94 million.

The voice cast for Finding Nemo includes Albert Brooks as Marlin, Ellen DeGeneres as Dory, Alexander Gould as Nemo, Willem Dafoe as Gill, Brad Garrett as Bloat, Allison Janney as Peach, Stephen Root as Bubbles, Austin Pendleton as Gurgle, Vicki Lewis as Deb, Joe Ranft as Jacques, Geoffrey Rush as Nigel, and Stanton as Crush.

A sequel to Finding Nemo, titled Finding Dory, was released in 2016. Once again directed by Stanton, Finding Dory also proved to be a major hit for Pixar, as it generated approximately $1.029 billion at the global box office with an approximate budget of $200 million.

Stanton has hinted that a third Finding Nemo movie could be a possibility before. He told Entertainment Weekly in 2016, “I’ve stopped saying never for anything because there are a lot of new characters that get introduced and we’ve broadened the universe for this movie. And again, I’m very used to seeing that world continue to open up from the Toy Story movies…so I’ve learned to just say, to my knowledge, I think everything that was born of the first movie is wrapped up. But we’ll see.”

Finding Nemo and Finding Dory are both streaming on Disney+.

Anatomy of a Fall’s Sandra Hüller has been tapped to star alongside Ryan Gosling in Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s Project Hail Mary.

Per Deadline, Hüller has officially been cast in Project Hail Mary, a new movie that is based on Andy Weir’s 2021 sci-fi novel of the same name. The film is currently expected to hit theaters in 2026.

Hüller was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for playing Sandra Voyter in 2023’s Anatomy of a Fall, which was directed and co-written by Justine Triet. The same year, she also starred in Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest, which was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

What is Lord and Miller’s Project Hail Mary about?

“Middle school science teacher Ryland Grace (Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of who he is or how he got there,” Deadline’s description of the film reads. “He must figure out how to complete his interstellar mission to save Earth from an astronomical catastrophe completely alone, until he meets a mysterious alien who has traveled light years to save his own species from the same fate.”

Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods, Bad Times at the El Royale) wrote the script for Project Hail Mary, while Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, Gosling, Lord, Miller, Aditya Sood, and Weir all serve as producers. Executive producers include Lucy Kitada, Nikki Baida, Goddard, Sarah Esberg, Ken Kao, and Patty Whitcher.

Lord and Miller are known for directing 2009’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 2012’s 21 Jump Street, 2014’s The Lego Movie, and 2014’s 22 Jump Street. They’re also both heavily involved with Sony’s Spider-Verse franchise, among other titles.

Project Hail Mary is currently scheduled to release in United States theaters on March 20, 2026, from Amazon MGM Studios.

Fallen Idols Documentary: What Happened to Nick Carter’s Accuser Melissa Schuman?

Disclaimer: The article contains mention of assault. Reader discretion is advised.

The new ID docuseries Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter takes a closer look at the careers and struggles of Nick Carter and Aaron Carter. Nick Carter is one of the five members of the Backstreet Boys, while his younger brother, the late Aaron Carter, was a prominent musician and rapper.

In 2017, Melissa Schuman from the now-defunct American girl group, Dream, accused Nick Carter of rape. According to People Magazine, the singer revealed Carter’s actions in a blog post on her website. She stated that in 2003 the Backstreet Boys singer raped her at his home. At the time of this ordeal, Schuman was an 18-year-old virgin. Nick Carter responded to Schuman’s accusations by stating that the duo did get intimate, however, the latter consented.

After Schuman’s revelation, Carter’s ex-girlfriend, Kaya Jones, contacted her. Reports suggest that Jones gave Schuman her number, and the two women eventually spoke. Soon, they became good friends, and Jones even gave Schuman a ring. In the docuseries mentioned above, Jones spoke of the allegations against Carter and added how his response was disrespectful to Schuman.

She stated, “Nick Carter was my boyfriend when I was in the Pussycat Dolls, and I saw the very detailed allegation about Nick and the response. It bothered me. Because it was discrediting this girl [Schuman]. So I wanted to hear what Melissa had to say.” Jones was a member of The Pussycat Dolls until 2004.

Additionally, Jones once hinted at an undisclosed incident that prompted her to dump Carter. In 2017, she warned him on Twitter by telling him to stay within his boundaries. In the docuseries, she explained that her ex-boyfriend knew why she ended their relationship and also believed that something very disturbing happened to Schuman.

Where is Melissa Schuman now?

Melissa Schuman is currently 39 years old. In 2006, she married dancer Brandon Henschel, and in 2010, the couple welcomed a baby boy. Dream reunited in 2015, but this endeavor was short-lived, and they split again in 2016.

In Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter, Kaya Jones spoke of the time she tweeted, “Don’t lie Nick. I’m no longer keeping your secrets.” She said that Schuman was fighting a battle on her own, and her ex-boyfriend was disrespecting her by trying to make her stay quiet. Jones stated, “I saw a young woman trying to speak and someone who thought he had more power and authority try to shut her up. I tweeted that. It was my way of saying, ‘Don’t push it.’ because he knows what I know. He knows why I left him. And so do I believe that something horrific happened to that girl? Yes. Yes I do.”

Carter’s attorney, Dale Hayes Jr., called Schuman’s accusations outrageous and added that his client was the victim of an elaborate conspiracy. Per People Magazine, he said, “These are exactly the same outrageous claims that led us to sue this gang of conspirators.”

In February 2023, the Backstreet Boys singer countersued Shannon Ruth for defamation and vilification. A few months before this, Ruth had sued Nick Carter for sexual battery. In the same lawsuit, he accused Schuman of the same thing. In response, the ex-Dream singer sued him for sexual assault and battery in April 2023. Both lawsuits remain unresolved.

However, Kim Tae-Sung (Song Geon-Hee), now a police detective, arrives at the right moment and saves Sun-Jae by crashing his police car into Young-Soo’s taxi.

Lovely Runner episode 15 recap: Song Geon-Hee saves Byeon Woo-Seok

Episode 15 of Lovely Runner begins with Sol and Sun-Jae struggling to get out of an amusement park ride. As help arrives, Sun-Jae decides to carry Sol out of it after she faints due to a high fever. Sun-Jae then takes her to his house, where he cares for her. When Sol wakes up, she immediately wants to leave Sun-Jae’s place. However, Sun-Jae tricks her into spending a little more time so that he can convince her to stay on the movie project and work with him.

While leaving the building, Sol and Sun-Jae encounter Tae-Sung, who is investigating the abduction case involving Young-Soo. Later that night, Sun-Jae discovers Sol has left without taking the medicines. Thus, he uses this as an excuse to visit Sol. Sun-Jae follows Sol to a park after seeing her go there with her brother’s child.

While spying on her, Sun-Jae finds himself in an awkward yet adorable situation when Sol catches him. He then attempts to help her make the child fall asleep. However, he ends up ruining his clothes and, thus, has to come to Sol’s home to change. Following this, the episode gives viewers a much-awaited moment between Sol and Sun-Jae, during which they come closer to each other.

The next day, in Lovely Runner episode 15, Kim Tae-Sung meets Ryu Sun-Jae to ask for a favor. He wants to see the recording in his car’s camera from the previous day as it has caught the license number of Kim Young-Soo’s taxi. He soon gets the number and acquires the arrest warrant. Soon, Tae-Sung and his partner chase the criminal, trying to escape.

Towards the end of the episode, the audience sees Ryu Sun-Jae starting to remember everything that has happened to him and Sol in all the different timelines and lives right after he finishes demoing the Lovely Runner OST “Sudden Shower.” As all the lost memories start rushing back to him, he feels intense pain in his head and chest. He becomes pretty flustered and runs to see Sol.

At the end of episode 15 of Lovely Runner, Ryu Sun-Jae comes right in front of Kim Young-Soo’s car while crossing the road. Meanwhile, Kim Tae-Sung is chasing after him in his police car. When the ruthless criminal is about to hit Sun-Jae with his vehicle, Tae-Sung comes in between them and crashes into Kim Young-Soo’s car. Thus, he saves Sun-Jae. The episode ends with Sun-Jae lying on the road, thinking about how much he and Sol have loved each other.

The Atypical Family Episode 7 Recap & Spoilers: What Happens After Chun Woo-Hee Leaves Jang Ki-Yong at the Altar?

The Atypical Family episode 7 aired on Saturday, May 25, 2024, on JTBC and Netflix. Starring Jang Ki-Yong and Chun Woo-Hee, the fantasy romance K-drama revolves around a mysterious woman who gets entangled with the Bok family, who possess magical powers.

In the previous episode, Bok Gwi-Joo (Jang Ki-Yong) discovered Do Da-Hae’s (Chun Woo-Hee) past trauma. She was a victim of the same fire incident in which Gwi-Joo lost his close friend. Due to this connection, Gwi-Joo decided to protect her always and thus agreed to marry her. The episode ended with Da-Hae calling off the wedding and leaving him at the altar. She also revealed that she was a fraud and that her family targeted the Bok clan for money.

The aftermath of the failed wedding features in episode 7. Gwi-Joo is heartbroken and tries to understand why Da-Hae betrayed him. Also, he returns to the past moments he spent with her. For context, Gwi-Joo’s powers malfunction with Da-Hae because she can see and touch him whenever he meets her in the past.

The Atypical Family episode 7 spoilers: Why did Jang Ki-Yong’s daughter, Park So-Yi, run to Chun Woo-Hee?

In The Atypical Family episode 7, Gwi-Joo returns to the moment Da-Hae left him at the altar. He learns that her family knows about his family’s powers. Furthermore, Gwi-Joo witnesses Da-Hae and his conversation, and she rejects him harshly. She also notices time traveler Gwi-Joo standing behind her.

Meanwhile, the Bok family badmouths Da-Hae and her fake family. On the other hand, Da-Hae’s fake mother is disappointed in her and locks her up in a room. The next day, Gwi-Joo’s daughter Yi-Na (Park So-Yi) has difficulty at school. While Joon-Woo (Moon Woo-Jin) attempts to cheer her up, Hye-Rim’s (Kim Soo-In) behavior makes Yi-Na anxious. She loses her glasses while running away from her classmates.

At her home, Yi-Na’s grandfather, Soon-Gu, assumes she has gone missing. Meanwhile, the kid arrives at Da-Hae’s sauna place. Her mother brings her inside and tries to question the child about her powers. When Da-Hae appears, Yi-Na questions whether she didn’t marry her father out of love. Da-Hae avoids eye contact because she knows the kid possesses the power to read the mind by looking into one’s eyes.

Da-Hae buys Yi-Na a new pair of glasses and learns why she ran to her instead of going home. Da-Hae is the only one who knows about Yi-Na’s powers; thus, the kid is comfortable around her. Their bittersweet banter ends when Gwi-Joo arrives to pick up Yi-Na. He assumes that Da-Hae must have lured his daughter out for a scheme. But Yi-Na defends Da-Hae and appears concerned about her.

The Atypical Family episode 7 ending: Jang Ki-Yong returns to Chun Woo-Hee

The Atypical Family episode 7 further shows Gwi-Joo’s future self appearing in front of Da-Hae when his present form comes to pick Yi-Na. His future version pushes Da-Hae to warn Gwi-Joo that his sister is in danger.

At the gym, Bok Dong-Hee (Claudia Kim/Kim Su-Hyun) has a date and plans to use her power to fly down the stairs. Da-Hae’s sister Grace (Rye Abel) creates a situation so that she can record Dong-Hee’s powers and the family can use it to blackmail the Bok clan. When Dong-Hee jumps, her power doesn’t work, and she falls straight to the ground. Fortunately, Gwi-Joo arrives on time, and she lands on him.

These incidents lead to a misunderstanding, as Gwi-Joo’s mother, Man-Heum, thinks Da-Hae kidnapped Yi-Na and hurt Dong-Hee. Towards the end of the episode, Yi-Na requests her father to investigate why Da-Hae called off the wedding. Gwi-Joo travels back to that moment and learns how badly Da-Hae’s family treats her. He visits Da-Hae and her fake family to strike a deal with her mother. Gwi-Joo later tells Da-Hae that he will undo the past for her.

The final scene features the moment when Gwi-Joo travels back to Da-Hae to warn about Dong-Hee’s accident. Da-Hae cannot control her tears, and seeing him after his present version tells her he will never return to her. She asks, “Why do you keep looking back at times with me?” He holds her hand and says, “Don’t let me go.” The episode ends with all the moments when the two have held hands.

To watch what happens next in The Atypical Family, tune in to JTBC and Netflix on Saturdays and Sundays.

Imaginary Blu-ray Review: Blumhouse’s Fun Teddy Bear Horror Movie

Imaginary Blu-ray Review

The Imaginary Blu-ray is now available for purchase for Blumhouse’s psychological horror movie. Directed and co-written by Jeff Wadlow, the Lionsgate movie features a great cast with DeWanda Wise, Tom Payne, Taegen Burns, Veronica Falcon, and a standout performance by young actress Pyper Braun. While the PG-13 offering is a bit lighter on scares than most would hope, it has a fun final act filled with some cool practical effects.

“When Jessica moves back into her childhood home with her family, her youngest stepdaughter, Alice, finds a stuffed bear named Chauncey. As Alice’s behavior becomes more and more concerning, Jessica intervenes only to realize that Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be,” says the synopsis.

Imaginary definitely falls into the gateway horror camp, where it’s a fitting horror movie for the whole family. This isn’t a slasher, and there’s no gore, but there’s a constant sense of eeriness and some scares throughout. The film is well-acted, with the family dynamic really standing out from the three main female actresses — Wise, Burns, and Braun.

Upon a second viewing, the psychological horror aspect definitely shined through more, as did the practical effects. Watching with the twist in mind is interesting as you get to reexamine scenes through that lens. While it’s certainly not The Sixth Sense, it’s a story beat that opens up the film for repeat viewings and makes it fun to watch with others as you get to see their reaction.

The best bonus feature on the Imaginary Blu-ray is the audio commentary, which features Wadlow and Wise giving insight into the film. Both are eloquent and insightful speakers, pointing out some smaller details and themes that viewers might miss upon first viewing. Since Wise was also an executive producer, she’s able to discuss more than just her own acting and scenes, which leads to a really nice conversation over the 104-minute runtime. Along with my recent interviews with the cast, it really made me appreciate the film’s craft and writing more.

Additionally, there’s a well-produced featurette titled “Exploring the Never Ever.” The 19-minute-long bonus features a lot of good behind-the-scenes shots of the sets and the practical effects, which I got a real kick out of. The cast and crew discuss some of their own childhood fears and use of imagination, which ties into the film, and then it takes a look at the costuming and creature design as well. I really enjoyed the look into the full beast costume for Chauncey and all of the work that went into making the creature come to life — a mix of technology, puppetry, and a very tall actor in the costume.

Imaginary Blu-ray Review: Final Verdict

Imaginary continues to prove that Blumhouse has horror figured out. Wadlow directs a solid gateway horror movie with some wonderful practical effects, which is further elevated by a strong, female-led cast. An entertaining commentary track and insightful featurette add value to a fun movie that is better upon revisiting.
