A Man on the Inside Season 2 Update Given by Ted Danson & Creator
A new A Man on the Inside Season 2 update has been given by star Ted Danson and creator Mike Schur.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Danson and Schur were asked if the pair had spoken to Netflix about continuing the series in any way, considering that the show’s finale does end in a satisfying enough way.
Danson said that everything about the show continuing depends fully on Netflix, and that they won’t know more for at least another month.
What do we know about A Man on the Inside Season 2?
“All of this depends on being picked up, obviously,” said Danson. “Netflix has its system, so we won’t know that for a month, but we seem to be doing really well. We have, but it’s one of those things where you don’t want to go too far down that road, and it’s more of a fingers crossed kind of conversation.”
Schur also chimed in, noting that the series was never envisioned as a limited one, and was actually pitched to Netflix as an ongoing series. However, he said that there are definitely building blocks for a second season, and he’s told Netflix he’ll keep making the show as long as they keep wanting him and Danson back.
“We pitched it to them as a series, not a limited thing,” said Schur. “We won’t know the reality of that for a couple weeks at least, probably more like a month or two. But before the season was even over, we had started saying [a second season] could be this, could be this, and trying to figure out how it would be different and how it would be the same. He can’t go undercover at Pacific View anymore. Obviously, that ship has sailed. But what you have at the end of the season is a 76-year-old man with a new lease on life and a new sense of purpose and a new kind of fledgling career as an undercover detective. … You have a lot of building blocks for future seasons.
“I told Netflix, I’ll do this forever if you want to keep paying me to write seasons of a show where Ted Danson is an undercover detective. I will sign up for this through 2050 if you let me.”
A Man on the Inside is currently available to watch via stream on Netflix.

Austin Butler Time Travel Movie The Barrier Gets Distributor After Bidding War
20th Century Studios has successfully landed the rights to the upcoming time travel movie The Barrier, which hails from All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger. The studio won the project in an intense bidding war against multiple competitors for a reported seven figure range deal.
Who is involved in The Barrier?
The Barrier will be directed by acclaimed filmmaker Edward Berger from a screenplay written by up-and-coming scribe MacMillan Hedges, based on the latter’s short story. Further details about its plot and characters are still being kept under wraps. However, it is being described as a Interstellar meets Top Gun. The movie will be led by Oscar nominee Austin Butler, who most recently starred in Warner Bros.’ sci-fi sequel Dune: Part Two and Focus Features’ crime drama The Bikeriders. In addition to leading the cast, Butler has also signed on as an executive producer, with Hedges expected to produce the project.
At the moment, Butler is currently in production for Darren Aronofsky’s thriller movie Caught Stealing, with Zoe Kravitz and Vincent D’Onofrio. He is also attached to star alongside Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, and Joaquin Phoenix in Ari Aster’s next A24 movie Eddington. He had also signed on to star in the crime drama City on Fire, which hails from writers Justin Kuritzkes and Don Winslow. As for Berger, his most recent directorial feature Conclave, is already receiving Oscar buzz from critics. The Ralph Fiennes-led movie currently holds a Certified Fresh rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Killer’s Game Director on Reuniting With Dave Bautista in Afterburn
Director J.J. Perry has worked with Dave Bautista in 2024’s The Killer’s Game, and is set to re-up their partnership with the upcoming film Afterburn, which Perry says was a joy to get to working back together again.
Speaking to ComingSoon in a recent interview, Perry not only revealed that Afterburn was nearly wrapped up in production but recalled how he came to make the movie.
What did J.J. Perry say about working with Dave Bautista?
“Yeah, man. We had a great time on The Killers Game, and they had mentioned that there was another film, another script,” said Perry. “I’d actually read Afterburn 12 years ago to coordinate it about six years ago when Gerard Butler was gonna do it with a Korean director [Jung Byung-gil], who did The Villainess. I met the Korean director in K-Town, and somehow, it landed in my lap, and I was grateful. I kind of knew what to do. I’m just wrapping that one up right now. Dropped my director’s cut. So I’m super excited about that. Dave, I’m telling you, if you don’t have someone like Dave Bautista in your life, you need one. He’s such a generous and intelligent [person]. I can’t say enough good things about him. He’s amazing.”
Perry also opened up about Bautista and his relationship and joked that “everybody should have a little Dave Bautista in their life” after he had gotten to know the wrestler-turned-actor.
“Dave is legitimately one of the most dangerous people I’ve ever. He’s nice as pie. Everybody should have a little Dave Bautista in their life. He’s a gem of a human, and I love him to death, but he is legitimate. He’s a big, strong man who is very skilled in wrestling and very skilled at jiu-jitsu and who’s got lunchbox fists. He’s massive, and he can hit really hard, “Perry said.
“So, coming up with a style with him, with my action team that is always with me. Justin Yu, Felix Betancourt, and Troy Robinson, these guys come with me from Day Shift, and they’ve come with me on this whole journey, even as a second unit director for years. [The key] is coming up with something that’s interesting for him. What is good choreography? What is that? It’s creating a problem for your protagonist or for your protagonist and showing how he solves that problem and repeat and repeat and repeat. Make the problems get harder and harder.”
The synopsis for Afterburn reads, “Ten years after a solar flare wiped out technology across the globe, ex-soldier Jake (Bautista) works as a treasure hunter recovering valuable objects from the old world for powerful clients. His latest mission: team up with freedom fighter Drea to recover the Mona Lisa before an unhinged warlord gets there first.”

Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs Movie Gets Update Ahead of Fast & Furious Return
Writer and filmmaker Chris Morgan recently gave an update on a new movie focused on the character Lucas “Luke” Hobbs from the Fast & Furious universe, hinting that the movie is still in the works, but might not be next up.
What did Chris Morgan say about a Hobbs movie?
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter recently, Morgan — who has written on seven Fast & Furious projects, including 2019’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw — was asked about the status of a Hobbs-centric project. Morgan said he wasn’t the right person to talk to when it comes to that.
“That’s really something the studio would have to speak to. We’re talking about what comes when and how, but I’ll leave that to greater minds than mine,” said Morgan.
Morgan would also go on to say that he is currently working on a script to a “Hobbs & Shaw kind” of project, but wouldn’t go into much detail beyond that. It’s unclear whether or not the film is a movie tied to the Fast & Furious franchise, or its own separate thing.
“It’s under lock and key. I can say that I’m working on a Hobbs & Shaw kind of script. So we’ll see where that goes, but I’m excited about it,” Morgan said. “We also have a project [called Deputy X] that we’re doing at Universal with Glen Powell. Will Beall just wrote an awesome draft, and it feels like we’re gearing up for a big fun franchise. I have another action thing that I’m thinking about writing. But one of my passions is horror, and I would like to do one great horror movie someday. Basically, every night, I’m watching some new horror movie. Again, I worked at a video store for ten years. So I’ve been through all of them, and I never get bored of horror. I just love it.”

Interview: Colman Domingo on Playing a James Bond-like Character in Netflix’s The Madness
ComingSoon Senior Editor Brandon Schreur spoke to Colman Domingo about starring in the new Netflix thriller series The Madness. Domingo discussed what drew him to the project, what it’s like to play a James Bond-like character, and more.
“Muncie Daniels is a political consultant-turned-TV pundit who may have lost his way in life. While on a work sabbatical in the Poconos to write the great American novel, Muncie finds himself the only witness to the murder of a well-known white supremacist, and now he’s being framed for the crime,” the synopsis for the series reads. “Muncie is forced to go on the run in a desperate fight to clear his name and unravel a global conspiracy before time runs out. Along the way he’ll reconnect with his family, find unlikely allies, and fight against disinformation in a post-truth age.”
The Madness releases on Netflix on November 28, 2024.
Brandon Schreur: Colman, you’ve had such a spectacular past couple of years. You were just nominated for an Oscar last year for your performance in Rustin, and you were in Sing Sing this year, which I thought was absolutely incredible. Then you get the script for The Madness that comes across. What’s going through your mind when you’re reading it for the first time? What made you want to be involved in this project?
Colman Domingo: I’m telling you, it’s kind of divine in that way. Literally, I was talking to my agent, Elizabeth, about what I’d like to do next. I said, “I’d like another challenge.” I think everything that I do, I set myself up for a challenge, something I’ve never done before. I thought, “Well, I haven’t done a thriller,” and I said, “Who wouldn’t want to have their own James Bond or Three Days of the Condor moment?” I thought, “That’s what I want.” I want something that’s going to push and challenge me in every single way, not just with the character and the story, but also just physically.
I didn’t know exactly what it was, but then I get this offer to play Muncie Daniels in The Madness. I thought, “That’s it.” This doesn’t feel like something I’ll easily get or figure out. I had a lot of questions about Muncie, how to play him, and how to embody him physically. That’s also part of the draw. I thought this was a very difficult character.
Once I understood sort of the mechanics about him, that he’s someone who shifts based on the room that he’s in — he’s a shape-shifter, he’s a coat-switcher. That’s part of the way he was raised, but it’s also part of what makes him successful, being a CNN pundit, as well as a college professor. I wanted to lean into that. For me, it’s always questions that I have about a character and I want to see how they live in me. That was exactly why I wanted to be Muncie Daniels.
Sure. No, definitely, that makes total sense. He’s such an interesting and cool character, too. You brought up James Bond, I was going to bring that up, too. There’s another part in the second episode where your character’s daughter compares you to John Wick. That was going on in the back of my mind, there’s a lot of John Wick, James Bond, and even some Sherlock Holmes going on with this character. Do you welcome those kinds of comparisons or is Muncie a totally different person you’re trying to do something different with?
Yeah. Are you kidding? It’s nice to have him living in that space. I feel like, I love the idea of the John Wick — someone who has all these kinds of tricks and can figure this stuff out. Because Muncie is very smart. He doesn’t know that he has some John Wick qualities. He has no idea. He just sits behind a desk. But he’s been taking jiu-jitsu and doing all this physical work. Then he’s thrust into this space where he’s got to fight for his life, fight for his reputation, and fight for his family.
Therefore, he’s like, ‘I’m the only one who is going to advocate for me. Not the police, not society. So what am I going to do?’ It’s fight or flight. And, at some point in the series, he tries to choose flight because it’s actually easier. But he’s like, “Fighting is something that’s going to call on some other forces that you’re not even aware of.” So I love that he lives in that space of these iconic men.
Totally. it makes for such an interesting show, too, just watching him navigate all that. I mean this in a complimentary way, but the show is kind of frustrating just watching you and your character. It’s not a, ‘Did he do it? Did he not do it?’ kind of show. We know you’re innocent, but you still have to face all kinds of prejudice, people who don’t believe you, and everything like that. I’m wondering, was that frustrating at all? I mean, obviously you read the script, you know what’s going to happen, you know your lines, but, to get into character, is it frustrating to do those scenes?
Well, he’s frustrated the entire time because he’s like, “No, I’m telling the truth.” That’s what I love, the lens of it. You know, your central character, you know he didn’t do it. But now your lens is swinging around and looking at how society views him, looking at what can be used against him — whatever he’s said or done online, you name it, in the court of public opinion.
That’s actually the world we live in right now. Where the truth is doubted, it’s challenged, even when you absolutely know the truth. This is why folks are wrongly incarcerated, you name it. It’s really playing on what we know about the world that we live in, which is the madness.
Thanks to Colman Domingo for taking the time to talk about The Madness.

Mary Elizabeth Ellis & Lilah Richcreek Estrada Talk A Man on the Inside
A Man on the Inside stars Mary Elizabeth Ellis and Lilah Richcreek Estrada talked about working with Ted Danson in the Netflix comedy show. The duo also talked about family relationships and becoming rivals with someone whose personality is too much like your own. Inspired by the documentary The Mole Agent, the series is now streaming on Netflix.
“Retired professor Charles (Ted Danson) feels life has nothing new in store for him. A year after his wife’s passing, he’s become stuck in his routine and grown distant from his daughter Emily (Mary Elizabeth Ellis). But when he spies a classified ad from private investigator Julie (Lilah Richcreek Estrada), he’s inspired to roll the dice on a new adventure. Charles’ mission: to go undercover inside the Pacific View Retirement Home in San Francisco and solve the mystery of a stolen family heirloom,” says the synopsis.
“Everyone, residents and staff alike, is a potential suspect, and it’s up to Charles to solve the case without landing on the radar of Didi (Stephanie Beatriz), the all-seeing, all-knowing director of Pacific View. But keeping a low profile proves difficult as the affable Charles quickly endears himself to his fellow residents. Being a ‘man on the inside’ sends Charles on an exciting journey that makes him realize there’s a lot more life left to be had — and allows him to reconnect with Emily in the process.”
Tyler Treese: Mary Elizabeth, I wanted to ask you about working with Ted Danson, who plays your dad, because later on, the show really gets surprisingly emotional. You both just really knocked it out of the park. How is it bringing that connection there? Because you can tell that they haven’t been the closest father and daughter, but there’s just a genuine love there.
Mary Elizabeth Ellis: What a delight as an actor to be paired with Ted Danson and to be told like, “Great, go build a relationship where he…” I mean, don’t we all just want Ted Danson to be our dad? Yeah. He’s so wonderful, sweet, gregarious, and self-deprecating with his humor. He’s just an absolute delight to be around.
So I feel like the luckiest lady in the world that I got to do that. And yeah, you’re right. The show is a comedy, and it’s held in this optimism and joy, but there are real things that we’re talking about. It’s hard and scary to get older, but it’s also the best-case scenario, right?
Lilah, I love the early montage of you teaching Ted how to be a spy. These are just such funny scenes. How was it filming those sequences?
Lilah Richcreek Estrada: Oh my God, so much fun. One of the scenes we shot day one, that was the first scene of the series that was shot. So it was really fun because we got to shoot it in order too. So when we were shooting that stuff, I didn’t know Ted very well, which just helped play into the thoughts of just like, “What are you doing? Like, are you serious?” So much fun. I mean, it’s so goofy and silly and light and easy to watch, you know? I really enjoyed that sequence in particular, but just all of it.
Yeah, there are some good early laughs that really get the viewers hooked on A Man on the Inside.
Mary Elizabeth, the three actors that play your young sons in this show are just so hilarious. They’re little scene-stealers. How is it working with that group? They just nailed it.
Ellis: Aren’t they? Absolutely incredible, and they immediately felt like brothers. They were ribbing each other, giving each other grief and punching each other and stuff. They’re so perfectly teenage boys. Like calling your mom “dude” and not being able to find the peanut butter and jelly that’s immediately in front of your face, such a teenage kid thing to do. They were amazing. Eugene Cordero, who plays their dad, is just a comic genius. So great. So easy, so fun.
Lilah, you have some really great scenes later on with Stephanie Beatriz. It’s just this, this clash. You’re both these fiery characters, so it’s really fun to see these intense moments. What stood out about her as a scene partner?
Estrada: Oh, Steph is so good and so, so locked in. Her character is so much like Julie that I love when they go head to head because I think that’s what drives the other one crazy about each other. We’re very alike, very smart, in tune, and intuitive, and it’s now messing with what we’re doing. But also, you’ll see at the end that there is an acknowledgment of like, “Yes, it drives me crazy, but I see you.”
Ellis: And also never come back.
Estrada: And also never come back. Yeah. But Steph is just so good as Didi. She’s great. She brings so much warmth, and she really walks this beautiful line of also being fierce and warm. She’s great.
Thanks to Mary Elizabeth Ellis and Lilah Richcreek Estrada for taking the time to talk about A Man on the Inside.

The Conjuring: Last Rites Wraps Filming, Vera Farmiga Issues Statement
The Conjuring: Last Rites has officially wrapped filming, and star Vera Farmiga took to social media to celebrate the end of an era for the horror franchise.
What did Vera Farmiga say about The Conjuring: Last Rites?
In a recent post on social media, Farmiga — who has played Lorraine Warren alongside Patrick Wilson‘s Ed Warren over the course of The Conjuring franchise — shared a photo of she and Wilson as Ed and Lorraine in wedding attire.
In the post, Farmiga reflected on Wilson wrapping his time with the film, and how she would be wrapping today as well, ending their “match made in heaven” in what she says was “a hell of an era.”
“Roundabout 5000 days ago, this guy and I signed a WB contract and said ‘I do’ to embodying Ed and Lorraine Warren,” said Farmiga. “Today, he wraps. I have another 12 hours of laughter and insanity with him and then abruptly, he will walk off set, peel off sweat soaked demonologist garb, shave off his side burns, flash that dazzling smile and bid our fake marriage adieu. Yeah… I got them feels today. It was a match made in heaven, PWilz. A hell of an era. Here’s to 12 years. I cherish you, [Patrick Wilson].”
The Conjuring: Last Rites will be the fourth and final installment in the main series of The Conjuring movies. The franchise began back in 2013, when the original film released in theaters. Last Rites will be directed by Michael Chaves, who also directed 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and 2023’s The Nun II, which is also set in The Conjuring universe.
The Conjuring: Last Rites is currently scheduled to premiere on September 5, 2025.

Mason Thames’ Hiccup Saves Toothless in First Live-Action How to Train Your Dragon Trailer
The first trailer for the live-action How to Train Your Dragon has been released.
Universal Pictures is releasing a live-action How to Train Your Dragon remake movie in June 2025. Directed by Dean Deblois, the film stars Mason Thames as Hiccup, Nico Parker as Astrid Hofferson, and Gerard Butler as Stoick the Vast.
Check out the live-action How to Train Your Dragon trailer below (watch more trailers and clips):
What happens in the live-action How to Train Your Dragon trailer?
Much like the 2010 animated movie, the live-action How to Train Your Dragon trailer introduces audiences to Thames’ Hiccup, a Viking whose father, played by Butler, insists that he grows up and learns how to kill dragons. Hiccup intends to do so when he finds an injured Night Fury dragon who eventually becomes known as Toothless; however, he’s unable to do so and sets Toothless free, at which Toothless then allows Hiccup to touch his face.
“On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup (Mason Thames; The Black Phone, For All Mankind) stands apart. The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler, reprising his voice role from the animated franchise), Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon,” the synopsis for the film reads. “Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society.”
Butler previously voiced Stoick the Vast in the first two animated How to Train Your Dragon movies, the second of which, How to Train Your Dragon 2, was released in 2014. There was also a third film, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, that was released in 2019.
The film, which is also loosely based on the book series by Cressida Cowell, is written, directed, and produced by Dean DeBlois, who co-directed the first How to Train Your Dragon movie with Chris Sanders before he helmed the two sequels by himself.
The cast of the movie additionally includes Nick Frost as Gobber the Blech, Julian Dennison as Fishlegs Ingerman, Gabriel Howell as Snotlout Jorgenson, Bronwyn James as Ruffnut Thorston, Harry Trevaldwyn as Tuffnut Thorston, and Ruth Codd as Phlegma.
The live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie releases in United States theaters on June 13, 2025, from Universal Pictures.

Queen Latifah’s The Equalizer Eyes Potential Spin-off Series
CBS is considering expanding the Queen Latifah-led The Equalizer with a spin-off series.
The crime drama, which is a reboot to Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim’s series of the same name, recently returned for its fifth season back in October. CBS will introduce two new characters in Episode 16, aiming to launch an all-new series.
CBS eyes 2 co-leads for potential The Equalizer spin-off
Sources told Deadline that casting is already underway for Season 5, Episode 16. Per the outlet’s report, the network is looking for the roles of a younger female martial artist with an expertise with weapons who seeks Robyn McCall’s (Queen Latifah) help, and an older male who is a former CIA operative.
Both are guest-starring roles with a possibility to become series regulars should the spin-off move forward. Additionally, if the spin-off gets greenlit, it would mark The Equalizer franchise’s first time to stray away from its one lead character format — from the original 1985 series, the Denzel Washington-led film series, and the current CBS reboot led by Queen Latifah.
It is also noted that the upcoming episode, which is scheduled to air in the spring, is not a backdoor pilot. CBS had been using the strategy to its other hit shows, having introduced new characters to see if they can create a possible spin-off out of a particular show’s regular episode. It was previously seen in Fire Country, with Morena Baccarin appearing as a guest star and will soon be leading Sheriff Country.
“The series follows Robyn McCall, an enigmatic woman with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills as a former CIA operative to help those with nowhere else to turn,” the logline reads.
In addition to Queen Latifah as the titular character, the hit crime drama also stars Lorraine Toussaint as Aunt Vi, Tory Kittles as Marcus Dante, Adam Goldberg as Harry Keshegian, Liza Lapira as Mel, and Laya DeLeon Hayes as Delilah.
