Beauty School : Sci-Fi Film Nekrokosm in the Works From A24 and Mandy Director

A24 has officially partnered with XYZ Films to produce and develop a brand-new sci-fi fantasy film titled Nekrokosm. Horror filmmaker Panos Cosmastos has signed on to direct the project after nearly four years since 2018’s sci-fi horror Mandy. There are currently no cast members attached to project yet.

Nekrokosm is being written by Maegan Houang (Counterpart), based on a the story by Houang and Cosmastos. It will be set “deep within a strange galaxy, where two lovers are torn apart as they try to survive a malevolent invasion in this phantasmagorical fantasy nightmare,” reads the synopsis.

The film will be produced and financed by A24, with XYZ Films’ Nate Bolotin also set as a producer. This marks Cosmastos’ third collaboration with XYZ Films, since the company distributed his first two films including 2010’s Beyond the Black Rainbow and the hit Nicolas Cage-led horror.

Houang is also currently working with A24 for the studio’s upcoming HBO drama The Sympathizer, which she is co-writing and co-producing. Meanwhile, Cosmastos recently directed an episode of Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities for Netflix and is now in the post-production stage.
