One of Universal Pictures’ acclaimed comedy movies starring Kristen Wiig has finally been added to Netflix‘s library. During its theatrical run, the 2025 movie was an instant hit among critics and audiences. It currently has a Tomatometer rating of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, while its Popcornmeter is slightly higher at 93%.

As of today, Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie is officially available to stream on Netflix. The live-action/animated hybrid musical comedy was based on the streamer and DreamWorks Animation’s popular interactive series of the same name. In the 2025 film, Wiig played the main antagonist, Vera, who’s described as a stylish and eccentric cat lady. The movie grossed more than $80 million worldwide against a reported budget of around $32 million.
Joining Wiig were Laila Lockhart Kraner, Gloria Estefan, Ego Nwodim, Kyle Mooney, Melissa Villaseñor, Thomas Lennon, Jason Mantzoukas, and Fortune Feimster. Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie was directed by Ryan Crego, with original series creators Jennifer Twomey and Traci Paige Johnson serving as executive producers. The film was produced by Steven Schweickart, who was the production supervisor or co-producer on some of DreamWorks Animation’s biggest blockbusters, including How to Train Your Dragon, The Croods, and Kung Fu Panda 4.
Despite a substantial budget, the action film Desert Warrior starring Anthony Mackie and Ben Kingsley is on track to be one of the biggest box office flops of all time. Releasing on April 24, 2026, in the United States, the historical epic had a difficult production, to say the least, and received dismal review scores from critics and audiences. Taking place in seventh-century Arabia, the film follows Princess Hind (Aiysha Har) who refuses to become the concubine of Emperor Kisra (Ben Kingsley) and gains the assistance of the legendary bandit Hanzala (Anthony Mackie) in building an army to confront the empire. The film’s $150 million production budget comes backed by MBC Studios, whose parent company MBC Group is effectively controlled by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Why Desert Warrior crashed hard at the box office
As of May 21, Desert Warrior has only earned a worldwide box office total of $742,066, with $704,280 coming domestically and $37,786 coming internationally, according to Box Office Mojo.
As reported by Deadline, the film had grossed $596,000 across 1,010 screens by April 30 through its opening week in the United States and the Middle East. While its full run in cinemas is not yet over (at the time of writing), the fate of the film as one of the largest, if not the largest, box office flops in history will be difficult to reverse. If we follow the general rule that wide-release movies need to make 2.5 times its budget to break even, due to marketing and other costs, then Desert Warrior would need to gross $375 million to make a profit. And from the looks of it, the film will have trouble breaking the $1 million mark, which is less than 1% of its production budget.
The only good news is that there are other films that have had greater net losses, depending on how box office results are calculated. One of the largest box office bombs is 2023’s The Marvels, which made $206 million on a roughly $374 million budget due to exorbitant post-production costs, according to Forbes. That would mean that the Disney superhero film would have needed to make about $935 million to break even and instead resulted in a net loss of $729 million. If we only use the raw numbers for each film’s budget and box office totals, Desert Warrior had a loss of $149 million and The Marvels had a loss of $169 million.
The historical action movie had an arduous time making it to the silver screen. While principal filming for Desert Warrior ended in February 2022, it took more than four years for it to release. During the film’s post-production, director Rupert Wyatt — who is best known for 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes — had reportedly quit the project due to creative differences but returned to finish the edit later, per Deadline. MBC wanted Wyatt to cut about 20% of the film and desired “more of a Braveheart-style version of the picture” while the director pushed for “nuanced, authored movie.” These differences ultimately led to “Wyatt being benched, though he remained in contact with MBC during his time on the sidelines.”
After a poor test run with audiences in July 2023, Desert Warrior was re-cut, but it still made large Hollywood studios hesitate to distribute the film. Sony Pictures Entertainment and Apple TV+ “were said to be uncertain” about the success of the movie, and some studio chiefs were unsure about the timing of the movie due to rising conflicts in the Middle East and it being “too soon after October 7 for a movie involving rampaging Arab tribes.” Desert Warrior is distributed by American indie company Vertical Entertainment.
When is the Talladega Nights theatrical rerelease date?
Talladega Nights will screen in select US theaters on June 28, 30, and July 1, 2026. Unlike many recent rereleases, it will not feature any new material or bonus content.

Prime Video has shared a new Spider-Noir trailer. The new Nicolas Cage-led show not only has a unique look, but offers up a fresh take on Spider-Man in the process.
The unique superhero show will first premiere on MGM+’s linear channel on May 25. Afterward, all eight episodes will debut globally on Prime Video on May 27, where it will be available to stream in two versions, “Authentic Black & White” and “True-Hue Full Color.”
“The series tells the story of Ben Reilly, a seasoned, down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life, following a deeply personal tragedy, as the city’s one and only superhero,” reads the official logline.
Spider-Noir trailer review
The Spider-Noir trailer leans fully into its absolutely noir-filled theme. The trailer highlights Cage’s Ben Reilly, a grizzled version of Spider-Man who is a down-on-his-luck private investigator. From the start, we’re looking at a much different version of the Spider-Man we’re used to. This one not only lives in an entirely different era, but is facing his own sets of problems as he struggles whether or not to step back into the persona of Spider-Man.
One thing the trailer does is lean into the absurdity of its premise. With the show taking place in the 1930s, Spider-Noir is clearly embracing its noir roots, and features a lot of tropes and stereotypes fans might associate with the time period. Cage himself has joked that his performance is a mix between Humphrey Bogart and Bugs Bunny, giving us a peek into just how unique his take on Spider-Man will be.
Spider-Noir’s trailer also briefly shows off the spin it will have on some of Spider-Man’s most iconic villains. Early in the trailer, we’re treated to the 1930s version of Flint Marko, who many might know as Sandman. The trailer also teases some run-ins with mob boss Silvermane, Tombstone, and more. Unlike present-day iterations, these characters all seem to have much more grounded and “realistic” looks and abilities, something that also leans heavily into the 1930s aesthetic for the show.
Kit Harington has provided a disappointing update on his Jon Snow spin-off show. Earlier reports say HBO was once in talks with Harington for a Jon Snow series set after the Game of Thrones finale. However, the project was reportedly scrapped more than two years ago.

“My main thing is not wanting to go there and sort of do an injustice by the character,” Harington said. “As I’ve just said, I think he ended well. I think that he went where he was meant to. So, if you pick him up again, it needs to be for the right reasons.”

“But I did feel there was something left to say, and I did think the idea of exploring something kind of entirely around him, or a lot around him, would be interesting. Because remember in Game of Thrones, you’re part of a huge ensemble, and it would be quite interesting to look at a character dive more focused on [him]. Harington’s comments don’t completely rule out the show returning to development in the future. In fact, a recent report suggests that it could happen. However, it would be the first Game of Thrones project to tread completely new waters, with no source material to guide it.

Cochrane’s family did not divulge the specific reasons for the actor’s departure from the production. Following this, HBO supported the decision and essentially confirmed that a new actor will replace Cochrane as Ginny going forward.

In Dutton Ranch, Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser will reprise their iconic roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler from Yellowstone. Speaking with CBR, the actors explained why the spin-off sequel will feel different despite being a continuation of its predecessor.
Talking about the challenges Rip faced in the sequel, Hauser revealed how cowboying felt different in a new environment. “A lot of people say cowboying is the same everywhere. It’s not. The challenge of just getting water for cows… what are they going to do? What are their experiences going to be? There were so many questions in the beginning.”
Reilly explained, “We realized that we needed to pluck these three characters and drop them into just a completely different universe. They were the sort of king and queen of their own kingdom at Yellowstone, I felt. Now, to go somewhere where they’re completely unknown, other than by the audience watching them, all the other characters don’t know who they are.”
Dutton Ranch is set one year after the events of Yellowstone, following Beth and Rip as they try to build a new life in Texas after leaving Montana.

However, there are no plans to move forward with Season 2, according to executive producer Christina Voros. “Honestly, if I had something to share [about a potential season 2], I would,” she said in a recent interview.

Hulu just unveiled the first look trailer for its upcoming TV series, The Season. Avid The White Lotus fans will want to check it out while they wait for Season 4, as it’s already drawing comparisons.
“Set against the opulence and striking contrasts of Hong Kong, The Season follows a privileged group of friends gathering for a summer of sun-drenched luxury as boating season begins,” reads the official logline. “What starts as a glamorous escape soon spirals into a web of deception, power struggles, and life-altering consequences.”
The Season trailer depicts the “luxurious and cutthroat” world of Hong Kong’s high-society boating scene, reports The Hollywood Reporter. The TV show comes from Hong Kong-based PCCW Media in association with SK Global (Crazy Rich Asians).
The show’s been described as White Lotus-esque and features a revenge-driven storyline among its key characters. Shadow and Bone star Jessie Mei Li plays Cola, a newcomer to high society, who has a secret agenda. The story mainly focuses on the Hex family, an old-money institution in Hong Kong. The trailer features Cola saying in voiceover that she plans to bring the Hex family down.
Apart from Mei Li, other cast members include Toby Stephens (Percy Jackson and the Olympians), Karena Lam (Daughter’s Daughter, American Girl), Chris Pang (Crazy Rich Asians), Celina Jade (Wolf Warrior 2), Justin Chien (The Brothers Sun’s), Yvonne Chapman (Avatar: The Last Airbender), Kōki, and Lee Jae-yoon (Physical 100). Additionally, Hong Kong pop stars Anson Lo and Marf Yau are playing crucial roles.
Yalun Tu is The Season’s creator and also executive producer. The show is helmed by Marialy Rivas, who is also executive producing alongside Janice Lee and Agatha Lo.
The Season will start streaming on Hulu with all its episodes on June 17, 2026.
The Punisher is one of the most divisive characters in all of Marvel Comics. Within the setting itself, other costumed crimefighters cannot agree if he is any different than the criminals he seeks to kill. However, the new Disney+ special devoted to Frank Castlemakes a subtle change that makes him a better fit for the MCU ahead of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The Punisher: One Last Kill finds Frank Castle in a bad place, even for him. Escaped from the custody of The Kingpin after Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, Frank has been trying to live a quiet life in Little Sicily. At the same time, he’s been tormented by visions of his family and fellow Marines. However, when Frank becomes the target of a hit, he returns to his murderous ways amid a neighborhood-wide riot. This triggers an unexpected change for the better. Not only for Frank’s emotional well-being, but also for how he is presented in the MCU.
One Last Kill makes The Punisher more heroic
As he’s fighting, Frank Castle sees Ma Gnucci, the mob matron who put out the hit on him, observing the chaos. At the same time, he overhears criminals attacking a local coffee shop. Torn between revenge and helping a family that was kind to him, Frank elects to save lives rather than seek vengeance.

His only reward for this is a pressed flower, given to him by the coffee shop owner’s daughter. Frank later places this on his daughter’s grave and elects to continue being The Punisher. This time, however, he kills as a defender of the innocent rather than out of revenge.
The Disney+ special reflects both of the ways The Punisher has been characterized over the years. Some writers portray Frank Castle as a wounded warrior out to make sure nobody else suffers as he had. Others present Frank Castle as a serial killer who targets criminals, little better than his prey despite his code.

Frank Castle’s portrayal in the Marvel Netflix shows and the first half of One Last Kill generally took the latter stance. However, the second half of One Last Kill changes The Punisher. By protecting people and later helping an unhoused veteran get justice, Frank takes a new path.
He is still an anti-hero, whose willingness to kill puts him at odds with heroes like Spider-Man and Daredevil. However, he is coming at his vigilantism from a better place, with a higher goal than vengeance. This serves to make Frank Castle more like he was when he was introduced in Amazing Spider-Man. It also makes him into a more palatable character, whom Spider-Man and Jean Grey might reasonably work with in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie.
The Punisher: One Last Kill is now streaming on Disney+.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Oscar Isaac would be starring in a new Netflix TV show about Las Vegas. The show did not have a title at the time of that announcement; however, it was reported that the project would be executive produced by Scorsese. Brian Koppelman and David Levien are attached as writers and showrunners.
What is the update on the Martin Scorsese Las Vegas Netflix TV show?
Per Netflix Tudum, three new cast members have joined the project, which has now been officially titled The Roman. Baldwin plays Paul “Primo” Clark, who is “a legendary and flint-eyed business technician” that serves as a father figure to Isaac’s character, though he also “isn’t afraid to let his protégés fight for his favor.”
GLOW’s Betty Gilpin, meanwhile, has been tapped to play Marla Blake, who is Isaac’s character’s “formidable” wife. She is also “a brilliant, highly connected lawyer, who knows how to navigate the town’s darkest corners just as well as her husband.”
Lastly, David Costabile, known for starring in shows such as Billions and Breaking Bad, is playing Bill Maverick, who is the operator of a rival casino.
A description of the series reads, “The Roman is an hour-long drama set in the high-stakes, sharp-elbowed present-day Las Vegas casino business, which is a modernized but still dangerous version of the legendary city. At the center of which stands Robert “Bobby Red” Redman (Isaac), president of the hottest hotel casino in town, who has to make some long odds moves to try and secure his position and take more ground.”
Isaac, Koppelman, and Levien serve as executive producers alongside Scorsese, as do Julie Yorn and Rick Yorn for Expanded Media, Paul Schiff, Beth Schacter, and JC Chandor. Chador directs the first two episodes.
A release date for The Roman has not yet been announced.
Following the release of 28 Years Later and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, there has been widespread speculation about whether 28 Years Later 3 will happen. Now, a new update from one of the film’s actors suggests a third film is on the horizon.
The Bone Temple ends with a cliffhanger, teasing that a third movie will bring back Cillian Murphy’s character from 28 Days Later. Director Danny Boyle has been open about how he envisioned these new movies to be a trilogy, and the latest update suggests the planned trilogy could move forward.

In a new Instagram post, Alfie Williams, who plays Spike in 28 Years Later and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, posted a photo of himself with a crossbow and the caption, “It’s great to be back.” This teases that 28 Years Later 3 may be happening yet, though Sony has not commented on the matter at this time.
While the franchise has received strong critical acclaim, it should be noted that The Bone Temple underperformed at the box office, and nobody has been really sure as to whether or not 28 Years Later 3 is going to happen. The film grossed just over $58 million worldwide, a sharp decline from the $151 million its predecessor grossed.
“It’s so funny, because literally every barometer we use in the industry to determine whether or not a movie is good, and people like it and want to see it, was through the roof, and yet our box office wasn’t there,” said Nia DaCosta, director of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.
As for whether Murphy will return in a third film, the actor recently offered a positive update. While The Bone Temple was not a box office juggernaut, the 28 Day Later trilogy has been dominating the streaming charts. Murphy’s limited role in The Bone Temple sets up a much bigger role in a proposed third film, which remains in the planning stages.

Ryan Coogler’s highly anticipated reboot for Hulu has added another wave of notable cast members, including Steve Buscemi and several acclaimed performers from film and television. As production moves forward, the latest casting updates offer a clearer look at the ensemble set to help reintroduce the iconic sci-fi franchise to a new audience.
Who has joined the cast of The X-Files TV show reboot?
Weapons’ Amy Madigan, who won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar earlier this year for playing Aunt Gladys, has joined The X-Files TV show reboot, reports Deadline. She is also known for her roles in American Woman, Antlers, Pollock, Gone Baby Gone, Field of Dreams, Uncle Buck, Places in the Heart, and Streets of Fire.
Devery Jacobs (Reservation Dogs), Lochlyn Munro (Scary Movie), Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower Moon, Legends of the Fall, Dances with Wolves), Joel D. Montgrand (True Detective: Night Country), and Sofia Grace Clifton (People of the West) have also joined the cast of the upcoming series.
These new actors join the previously cast group of Himesh Patel (Tenet, Don’t Look Up) and Danielle Deadwyler (The Woman in the Yard). They both play two highly decorated but very different FBI agents. Later in the story, they build an unlikely connection after being assigned to a long-dormant division for cases involving unexplained phenomena.
Coogler, who recently won an Oscar for his original screenplay in Sinners, is directing the pilot. He will also serve as an executive producer on the Onyx Collective Studio and 20th Television production. Original X-Files creator Christ Carter also serves as the executive producer on the reboot TV show. Meanwhile, Jennifer Yale is the showrunner and also the executive producer.
The X-Files TV show reboot is now in production. It’s yet to receive a premiere date.
