Jurnee Smollett Teases Black Canary Film Status

Not too much is currently known about what the future holds for the likes of certain DC films, given Warner Bros.’ recent merger with Discovery. However, a recent New York Times profile on actress Jurnee Smollett seems to hint that her Black Canary film is still in the works.

RELATED: HBO Max Wonder Twins Film Gets Canceled

The highly anticipated film got a brief mention in the recent profile, where it was noted that Smollett is set to reprise her role as Black Canary from the 2020 film Birds of Prey. The New York Times also briefly spoke with writer Misha Green (Lovecraft Country), who is writing the Black Canary film, and praised Smollett’s on-set decorum.

“Jurnee shows up on the day, and she has thought about 900 different ways to approach her character,” said Green.

The status of the Black Canary film has been up in the air ever since Discovery’s acquisition of Warner Bros. At the time of the move, it was widely reported that Discovery would begin to assess the DC Films division, which has already led to some delays and cancellations. This includes the Wonder Twins film, which was scrapped earlier this month.

Despite Birds of Prey releasing to incredible fanfare from audience members, the film didn’t perform very well at the box office, so it’s currently unclear whether or not Discovery would like to move forward with more films. At the very least, it seems like a Black Canary film isn’t completely out of the picture yet.

The Boys Drops Into PUBG Mobile

PUBG Mobile has gotten all sorts of crossovers with franchises like Resident Evil and Neon Genesis Evangelion, and now it is about to add one more to the list. Prime Video’s superhero series The Boys will be dropping into the mobile battle royale on June 3 through various events and will run until July 3.

The PUBG Mobile account tweeted a short teaser with some elements from the series. It doesn’t reveal any full characters, but does show some of Homelander’s destructive laser eyes, as well as his suit that’s next to Starlight’s and Soldier Boy’s. Players will be able to earn items from the show — including those three aforementioned skins — like weapon skins, some backpacks, and a Supes parachute.

Box Office Results: Top Gun: Maverick Takes Memorial Weekend Crown with Record Opening

Tom Cruise’s anticipated sequel Top Gun: Maverick dominated the Memorial Day weekend box office, taking in a record $156 million from 4,735 theaters over the four-day holiday — enough to trump Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End’s $153 million take 15 years ago. The three-day total for Maverick stands at $126.7 million, per Deadline, which is the second-best start for a Paramount release after Iron Man 2 ($128.1 million).

RELATED: Interview: Composer Lorne Balfe on Scoring Top Gun: Maverick

No matter how you slice it, the opening for Top Gun marks the best for Cruise, whose previous high mark was Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds, which opened to $64.8 million over its first three days way back in 2005. Worldwide, the Jerry Bruckheimer produced sequel earned $124 million, propelling its global take to $248 million. With a rare A+ CinemaScore from audiences and strong reviews from critics, it’s likely Maverick will remain in the clouds for some time. On Imax, the pic grossed $10.4 million from 350 screens.

Elsewhere, The Bob’s Burgers Movie took in $14.7 million over its first three days and $18.1M through the 4-day holiday weekend, while Doctor Strange 2 earned another $21.8 million to raise its domestic cube to $376.1 million. Downton Abbey: A New Era dropped 63% in its sophomore frame, but still generated $7.7 million over the holiday to lift its total to $30.2M.

With Jurassic World: Dominion looming, it’ll be interesting to see how high Top Gun can fly in the wake of some stiff competition.

1.) Top Gun: Maverick (Par) 4,735 theaters Fri $51M, 3-day $120M, 4-day $146.2M/Wk 1

2.) Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (Dis) 3,805 theaters (-729), Fri $4.4M (-48%), 3 day $17M (-47%), 4 day $21.8M, total $376.1M, /Wk 4

Six Paths Madara Joins Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker

This year’s 26th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump has revealed that Six Paths Madara Uchiha will be the next character to join Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker.

RELATED: Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker Season Pass 5 Includes 5 New Characters

Six Paths Madara is the first of five new characters to arrive as part of the fifth Season Pass for the game, which was originally released in 2018. Though no specific release date was given for Madara, the magazine said he will be available “soon.”

The last major update to Shinobi Striker came in February, when the game’s fourth season pass concluded with the inclusion of Boruto‘s Kawaki as a playable character. So far, 28 characters have been added to the game, with the Season Pass 4 pack introducing four new characters — Sakura Haruno (Great Ninja War), Nagato (Reanimation), Itachi Uchiha (Reanimation), and Sasuke Uchiha (Last Battle) — into the game

Alongside the new characters, Shinobi Striker will also receive stage renovations in summer 2022, which will see the game’s maps and landscapes updated to introduce new atmospheres and weather. Ninjutsu balances and other in-game improvements were also teased, with Bandai unveiling a roadmap in the video that promised the “renovation of Ninja Tools Shop, Ninjutsu Library” in spring, with stage renovations and other in-game improvements set for summer and winter 2022.

Maestro Photos Show Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein Transformation

As production continues on Maestro, the first official behind-the-scenes photos from the set of Netflix’s forthcoming Leonard Bernstein biographical drama have been released.

The Maestro photos, which you can check out below, provide us with our first look at Oscar nominees Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan as they transformed into the respective characters of Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre. Two of the photos also feature Cooper as an older version of the acclaimed conductor.

Maestro will span over 30 years in telling the beautifully complex story of the marriage between Bernstein and his wife, Felicia Montealegre. Joining Cooper are Carey Mulligan as Felicia Montealegre, and Jeremy Strong as John Gruen.

Cooper’s main focus on the project has always been the “charged and complex relationship” between Bernstein and Montealegre. The star and filmmaker have reportedly been working closely with Bernstein’s children Jamie, Alexander, and Nina, over the past couple of years.

Maestro is co-written by Cooper and Josh Singer with Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Cooper, and his Joint Effort producing partner Todd Phillips (Joker), Kristie Macosko Krieger, Oscar-nominated producer Emma Tillinger Koskoff (The Irishman, Joker), and Fred Berner and Amy Durning set as producers.

Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment is still attached to the project which was initially set up at Paramount Pictures. The streamer will be giving the film a significant theatrical release before it moves exclusively to Netflix.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore Now Streaming, Watch Opening Scene

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the opening scene for David Yates’ latest installment to the Harry Potter spin-off series, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. The film is now available for streaming on HBO Max.

The Secrets of Dumbledore opening scene, which you can check out below, features an intimate meeting between Jude Law’s Dumbledore and Mads Mikkelsen’s Grindelwald, as they talked about their previous plans together. This scene is then followed by an action-packed sequence featuring Newt, who is being chased down by Credence and Grindelwald’s other followers.

RELATED: HBO Max Wonder Twins Film Gets Canceled

The film earned a worldwide gross of over $380 million against a reported budget of $200 million, making this the lowest-grossing film of the magical franchise. It’s still unclear if this poor box-office turnout impact the previously announced final two installments of Fantastic Beasts or not.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein, Ezra Miller as Credence, Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore, Jessica Williams as Professor Lally Hicks, and Callum Turner as Theseus, with Mads Mikkelsen as the new Gellert Grindelwald.

“Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world,” reads the official synopsis. “Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches, and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?”

Villains That Could Thrive in The Batman Sequel

With The Batman 2 officially announced, it’s time to spend the next several years debating the elements we want to see in the sequel. Naturally, the most important factor to any good Batman flick is its villain, which is why we decided to kick off a conversation about which members of the Dark Knight’s rogue’s gallery we want to see him square off with next.

And no, the Joker isn’t allowed on this list. Even if we fully expect Batman’s greatest foe to appear in some way shape or form in future films — how could he not?

Scarecrow

Yeah, we know … Dr. Jonathan Crane, aka Scarecrow, memorably appeared in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. Yet, despite Cillian Murphy’s terrific portrayal, we never really saw the villain reach his full potential. After teasing us with a few of his tricks, Crane finally equipped his mask in the climax of the film and was quickly ousted by Rachel Dawes (Katie Holmes) via taser; and only made brief cameo appearances in the subsequent chapters.

Now, if you’ve played any of the Arkham video games, watched Batman: The Animated Series, or read a comic book, you know full well the potential of this particular foe. Under Matt Reeves’ direction, Scarecrow would be genuinely terrifying.

RELATED: Batman Spin-Off Starring Colin Farrell’s Penguin Begins Filming Soon

Mr. Freeze

Under the right circumstances, Mr. Freeze could prove a worthy adversary in a big feature film, so long as he’s not played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. The tricky part would be figuring out a way to make his ice gadgets believable within Reeves’ grounded take, and giving his storyline — seen countless times in comics, TV, and video games — a fresh new spin. Considering The Batman leaned very closely to the spirit of the Arkham games, it doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch to insert Mr. Freeze into this universe.

The Ventriloquist

If Reeves wanted to get really weird, he could introduce The Ventriloquist. For those unaware, this villain is a wooden dummy named Scarface operated by the very insane Arnold Wesker. Considering the end of The Batman introduced the idea of a power struggle following Carmine Falcone’s death, this would be a really great opportunity to bring in the bizarre character, even if his appearance amounts to a brief cameo or subplot.

The Mad Hatter

Similarly, Reeves could have some fun with The Mad Hatter, a psychopathic maniac who hypnotizes his victims to do his bidding. While a tad outrageous, there are ways to ground his person in this newly established universe where his ability to control and manipulate Gotham’s citizens would serve as a semi-continuation of Riddler’s story in The Batman.

RELATED: Michelle Pfeiffer Would Consider Returning as Catwoman

Professor Pyg

Robert Pattinson’s Batman will likely run into his fair share of psychos, so why not bring in Professor Pyg? Not only is this villain a serial killer, but his desire to achieve physical perfection by surgically altering his victims would make for an extremely dark, disturbing noir-styled thriller. I imagine the Riddler’s actions essentially open the floodgates for the weirdos to step into the light (so to speak), which is the perfect opportunity for a character like Pyg to appear and try to establish his own bizarre Utopia.

Calendar Man

I don’t know if Calendar Man needs to be featured front and center in any capacity, but having him appear in a supporting role or as an inmate at Arkham Asylum would be fascinating, to say the least. What makes characters like him work is the fact that he is essentially a normal guy with a real messed up set of principles, which echoes the instability of Riddler and even Carmine Falcone — both of whom thought their actions were necessary for Gotham’s survival. Plus, given The Batman was set around Halloween, we’ve already established a precedence for Calendar Man, who is very enamored with the holiday schedule.

Victor Zsasz

Ditto for Zsasz, who isn’t a strong enough character to carry an entire film, but could make for a cool side antagonist Batman must track down whilst dealing with a larger conflict. In the Arkham games, he led Bats on a wild chase to locate kidnap victims hidden around Gotham City, which could make for an interesting subplot on the big screen. For what it’s worth, I think Reeves established the Joker in order to make him the grand master of all these villains. Imagine if he used his influence to goad psychopaths like Zsasz to lean into their animalistic tendencies as a means to study Batman before eventually stepping up as the main antagonist in a future movie.

Bane

As much as I love Tom Hardy’s Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, I want to see a version that more closely resembles the comic book iteration of the character. With a stacked Arkham Asylum already in play, there’s an opportunity for Reeves to adapt the Knightfall storyline in which Bane frees the likes of Joker, Riddler, etc., and allows them to break Batman down physically and mentally before making his move. With Bats out of the way, Bane could then take over the criminal underworld, setting the stage for Azrael and one hell of a power struggle.

Court of Owls

Court of Owls makes sense within the framework established in The Batman, as they are a group of assassins made up of Gotham’s wealthiest and most powerful individuals. Reeves could tie their storyline to the Riddler, who sought to eliminate the corruption at Gotham’s core but merely grazed the surface of this powerful organization.

Hugo Strange

I remember the build-up to The Dark Knight Rises featured no shortage of Hugo Strange rumors, and I remember being so disappointed when none of them came to fruition. In Nolan’s universe, he could have made for an incredible foe. That said, I have no problem kicking the tires on this idea for The Batman 2 as I think the mad psychiatrist makes perfect sense in Reeves’ world. What if he were to appear as a doctor in Arkham Asylum who becomes obsessed with Batman following his sessions with Riddler, Joker and the like? Or maybe he’s even the man Bruce Wayne turns to for help in restructuring his own damaged mind … either way, this one makes too much sense to ignore. Can we just cast F. Murray Abraham and call it a day?

Interview: Composer Lorne Balfe on Scoring Top Gun: Maverick

ComingSoon’s Jeff Ames was given the incredible opportunity to speak with composer Lorne Balfe about his work on Top Gun: Maverick.

Lorne has been a part of some of the biggest films of the last decade, including Michael Bay’s 13 Hours, 6 Underground, and Ambulance. He also composed the music for Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible — Fallout and is currently hard at work on Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part 1, which releases next year.

RELATED: Interview: James Wan Reflects on Malignant, The Freedom of Horror

Jeff Ames: This is quite the thrill speaking to one of my favorite composers. I actually just purchased La La Land’s complete score of Mission: Impossible: Fallout, which I’ve been listening to nonstop.

Lorne Balfe: Well, you and my mom! You’re buying everything, so thank you. Have you seen the new trailer that came out?

Yes, and that’s your music in there, right?

Yeah, we recorded that about three weeks ago and went to Air Studios. An eight-piece orchestra and 60-piece choir. You never get to do that for trailers, absolutely never. So, that was awesome. I had forgotten how cool that trailer was. I had to text Christopher McQuarrie after watching it and use the “f” word followed by “dude.” Just breathtaking. Especially after not thinking you can beat Top Gun: Maverick – just wow. And I’ve been watching it for ages! It’s just fantastic. But it’s a long wait!

How is that for you as a composer, having to wait for people to hear your work? Because I know Top Gun got pushed back quite a bit and so you’ve had to wait a long time to unveil your score.

It’s a weird thought thinking about what it’s like because we take it for granted now. Top Gun, we all started working on it three years ago. That’s how long we were working on the music. We would come in and walk away from it and go back in over the course of those three years. Things change. It’s like the best-kept secret, that’s the only way I can describe it. You’re just sitting there and you know this wonderful secret and you can’t share it with anyone. It’s just great to now have it be able to breathe and be free.

How did the score for Top Gun change over the years?

It changed in many ways. A big thing that changed was Lady Gaga’s song and that changed the way we were looking at the film and scoring it. I think what we were missing was something that represented not just a Platonical love. What changed was this love for aviation and deeper meaning of love, which we were missing in the score. When that song appeared it was like the key had opened this door of what we should be doing now with these emotional beats. So, that changed quite a bit.

The song was a big thing. Right from the beginning, we knew we had one of the most iconic themes in film music — Harold [Faltermeyer’s] main anthem — so we always knew that was going to be part of the story that was being told. But the emotional beats changed. Plus, we were no longer able to sit down with an orchestra and have them play. That didn’t exist. So, recording remotely with musicians all over the world was a difficult thing to try and control. Three years is a long time, but it went quickly.

We were working on the trailer for Top Gun as well. Working on that trailer alone took three months. How do we honor the legacy of the first film but make it a new experience? Like the Mission theme, just because it exists doesn’t make it any easier. We wanted the audience to have the same emotion they had the first time within this sequel.

Did you start at a specific point with Top Gun?

There was never a plan. That’s the one thing we all learned now. It’s a big music team — Lady Gaga, Harold, and Hans Zimmer. And we were all over the world, sometimes meeting up in the same place because of Covid. So, there was no start from the beginning and work to the end. When you see the film, tracks like “Dark Star,” that was written near the end of the process and it educated us on how to tell a story differently musically. That then made us reassess other musical parts of the film. Some people do start from the beginning and others start at the end. There’s no correct process to do it. The actual film kind of dictates where you’re going to go with it.

Especially on Mission: Impossible. I started working on that two years ago. And Chris will send me a page of the script with something they’re about to film for inspiration. Other times I’ll be writing it to a finished scene.

RELATED: Microsoft Flight Simulator’s Top Gun: Maverick Expansion Out Now

Is there a point where you’re working on these projects for so long they become burdensome?

The day it stops being fun is the day you have to retire. This is all a dream come true. You’re sitting there and you’re getting to work on a movie that Jerry Bruckheimer has produced. The reason I got into movies was because of Jerry Bruckheimer, Michael Bay and Hans Zimmer. All of those films were what I loved in film and still do. As a child, I watched those movies, even though I was too young, and I wanted to be a part of them. And I loved everything about what they all made collectively ad separately. Now, being able to work with these amazing and talented people and being lucky enough to have them as friends is the excitement also. You’re scoring a scene with one of the few true stars on the cinema screen, Tom Cruise. It can never get boring.

Is there a specific sequence in Top Gun that you’re excited for audiences to hear?

I think collectively, for the audience the beginning and the end — having watched it in cinema — you can feel the enjoyment of the audience embracing it. There’s a nod to Harold and that reminds you of those happy times watching the original movie. And then the end is rejoicing that we’re all back in the cinema again, sitting there amongst each other — the Lady Gaga song really embraces that whole feeling. When I saw it last week, for the first time in years I felt a sense of normality, the way people were bonding. It was very special.

Is there anything you can tell us about the score for Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning?

I’m too scared to say anything. Knowing my luck, I would say too much. I will keep out of that question [laughs].

Are you allowed to discuss Ambulance, which I loved by the way?

Absolutely, yes! It’s a privilege to work with Michael Bay. Bad Boys, The Rock, all these movies lighted my fire. So, getting to work on Ambulance, it’s always fun with Michael. He pushes you as a composer. There’re not many people who can shoot like Michael does. It’s truly unique. It’s such an honor to be able to work with him.

So, you’ve worked with Michael Bay and Christopher McQuarrie on franchises like Mission: Impossible and Top Gun. How do you top that?

Mission: Impossible 8! I think after a while, I don’t know if it’s about topping it. It’s about making sure you work with people you enjoy working with and admire and have stories to tell. There’s so much out there being created now. It’s about wanting to know that you’re going to keep getting pushed. Jerry really pushes you. I just finished recording Secret Headquarters, a family film coming out this summer. If the melody’s not right, there’s a thumbs down and he pushes you to make it memorable. He knows his themes whether it’s with Hans and Pirates of the Caribbean or Harold with Beverly Hills Cop and Top Gun.

Well, I love your work and the movies you guys work on. These are the type of movies that get people to theaters. So, please continue doing what you do.

Hey, these are the movies that I go and see. It’s good to hear that. That’s the point of cinema. Escapism. We need escapism from life sometimes. I hope people are going back to the cinema and it doesn’t have to be about this film, but it’s that collective experience we all have together. You can watch these at home but you miss out on that interaction with other people.

Positive thoughts, Jeff! Positive thoughts. It’s taken a long time and a lot of passion, especially from Tom, to really make it as perfect as possible so the audience can have their — well, I was going to say have their breath taken away, but that would be the wrong song. [Laughs]

Val Kilmer’s Madmartigan Is in Willow Disney+ Series ‘in a Big Way’

Val Kilmer is set to have a presence in the upcoming Willow series for Disney+, according to star Warwick Davis and executive producer Jonathan Kasdan.

RELATED: Disney+’s Willow Series Gets First Trailer, Release Date

The two members of the upcoming continuation of the 1988 film recently spoke to Yahoo Entertainment, where they revealed that Kilmer’s character from the original film will be a part of the new series, although they didn’t exactly dive into what Kilmer’s role in the film will be.

“Val’s a huge part of this, and the first conversation I had, when Warwick and I got the green light to do this, was with Val,” Kasdan said. “We wanted his character to be a part of the story. We wanted him to be in the show.”

Kilmer appeared in Willow as Madmartigan, a swordsman who helps Willow on his quest throughout the film. For the legendary actor, it marked just the fourth film that he had ever worked on. However, because of the COVID-19 lockdowns, Kilmer was unable to film anything for the series. Despite that, Kasdan and Warwick did note that he is in the show “in a big way.”

“Because we were shooting during [the COVID-19 lockdowns], he wasn’t able to come to Wales and shoot with us. But he is in the show in a big way, and we’re pretty excited about it,” said Kasdan. “Madmartigan lives on.”

Warwick Davis will reprise his role as Willow Ufgood. However, the spotlight will now fall on Princess Kit (Ruby Cruz), as she has to save her twin brother, who has been kidnapped. Kit won’t be alone on her quest, as a warrior named Jade (Erin Kellyman) and Kit’s maid, Dove (Ellie Bamber), will accompany her. Boorman (Amer Chadha-Patel) also joins the three young women in return for being freed from prison.

Jonathan Kasdan and Wendy Mericle are showrunning the series. Ron Howard, the director of the original Willow, will produce the series alongside Bob Dolman.

Tales of the Jedi Details Revealed, Features Stories of Prequels Jedi

During Star Wars Celebration 2022, it was announced that the previously revealed show Tales of the Jedi will be a series of six animated shorts that revolve around iconic Star Wars Jedi from the prequel era.

RELATED: Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 1 & 2 Recap, Theories, and Thoughts

Animation producer Dave Filoni confirmed that Tales of the Jedi would include additional adventures featuring characters like Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku. Filoni continued, saying that “some of these are dark,” and that there would be three episodes about Dooku’s fall to the Dark Side and three about Ahsoka, each following her at different points of her life.

Photos from the event show Count Dooku as a Jedi in the modern Clone Wars style, as well as a young Qui-Gon Jinn, assumedly from his time as Dooku’s apprentice. It was confirmed that Liam Neeson would return to voice Jinn, while Neeson’s son will voice the younger version of the Jedi Master. Kevin Kiner, who composed the music for the Clone Wars series, Rebels, and The Bad Batch, will be composing the score for Tales of the Jedi.

The first episode of the series was shown to attendees, and was focused on Ahsoka’s relationship with her mother prior to becoming a Jedi. Filoni said it started as the story of Jedi Master Plo Koon finding Ahsoka, but evolved into a story featuring a mother-daughter dynamic. Ahsoka’s mother is voiced by Janina Gavankar, who also played Iden Versio in 2017’s Star Wars Battlefront II.

While not much is known about the upcoming The Witcher 4, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the project has already entered its preproduction phase.

The news comes via an update in a CD Projekt Red’s blog post, which noted that the studio has officially concluded its research phase for the highly anticipated upcoming game.

“We are very eager to revisit the universe which has shaped our history to such an extent,” said president Adam KiciÅ„ski in the post. “We have recently concluded the research phase for the first game in the new Witcher saga, which means that from now on further development expenditures will be capitalized on our balance sheet.”

With the game just now entering preproduction, that means it’s pretty safe to assume that the game is still many years away from release. So far, the only things that have been confirmed about The Witcher 4 is that it will run on Unreal Engine 5, and that it will feature a new school, the School of the Lynx, after CD Projekt Red released a teaser image of a Lynx medallion, leading many to believe that perhaps Ciri would be the new main character of the game.

Jurassic World Evolution 2 Expansion Announced Alongside Mobile Game

It’s been a long time since video game tie-ins arrived alongside every summer blockbuster, but the biggest franchises still want to cash in on that synergy. Case and point, the June 10 release of Jurassic World Dominion comes alongside announcements for two interactive experiences that John Hammond might be proud of: an expansion to an existing game and a mobile spin-off.

RELATED: Jurassic World Dominion Clips Highlight Return of Jurassic Park Stars

Players of Jurassic World Evolution 2 on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 can jump back into the strategic park builder on June 14 to play the Dominion Biosyn expansion. The paid DLC includes a new campaign experience with new characters to chat up and a collection of new dinosaurs (Therizinosaurus, Pyroraptor, Dimetrodon, and Quetzalcoatlus) to place into suspiciously escapable enclosures. Several of the new species are feathered, an addition inspired by Dominion directly, and there are also skins for the T. rex, Dilophosaurus, and Parasaurolophus and a Dreadnoughtus variant of the Giganotosaurus. There’s even another Chaos Theory scenario that emulates a scene from the upcoming film set in a “Sierra Nevada environment.”

Players can uncover these new dinosaurs and variants of existing species if they choose to expand their base game for $19.99. There’s also a free update to the base game that releases as part of the DLC launch, adding new challenge mode maps, improvements to transporting dinosaurs, and other upgrades.

Jurassic World Primal Ops was also revealed as a part of this announcement and is a top-down collection-based mobile game that’s set to hit iOS and Android devices later this year. Taking place in a world where dinosaurs freely roam Earth, players take the role of highly trained handlers trying to rescue the creatures from mercenaries, poachers, and other ne’er-do-wells. Gameplay involves action-packed missions filled with problems that only specific dino companions can overcome, creating a loop of collection and completion that’s more apt for phones.

RELATED: Jurassic World Dominion Featurette Spotlights Owen & Blue’s Connection

The Jurassic World era of the dinosaur franchise has been active in the gaming space. Besides these two titles, there has been a Lego spin-off, a mobile exploration game that plays like Pokémon Go, and a survival-based virtual reality experience. When a franchise has the entire prehistory of humans at their disposal, it’s simple to come up with cool creatures that can back up a game, and fans of the films have no shortage of dinosaur theme park fun at their fingertips.

PlayStation State of Play Announced for Next Week

It seems as though the rumors were accurate. Sony announced that it would be holding a PlayStation State of Play next week on Thursday, June 2 at 3 p.m. PT.

The company went into more detail on the PlayStation Blog. The presentation will be about 30 minutes and focus on third-party games and PlayStation VR2, including “several” games for the virtual reality headset.

RELATED: PS VR2 Will Launch With Over 20 Games

Of course, no hints were given about what games would be there. Only one PS VR2 game has been officially revealed — Horizon Call of the Mountain — which leaves tons of room for reveals and ports of games on other VR headsets.

The third-party games are harder to nail down. However, Games Beat reporter and insider Jeff Grubb noted that Street Fighter 6 might show up. Sony and Capcom are used to revealing games together, including Resident Evil 2 remake and Resident Evil Village, just to name a few. Street Fighter V was also a PlayStation 4 console exclusive, too. Capcom even said that players could look forward to new information in the summer.

RELATED: 30% of PlayStation’s Releases Will Be On PC by 2025

There’s also the possibility of Final Fantasy XVI showing up, as Square Enix said the trailer is on its way after missing its spring deadline. Similarly, there’s supposed to be some Final Fantasy VII news in June, according to Tetsuya Nomura. That doesn’t mean that an announcement of the second part of the remake is coming, but it is something to keep in mind.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that this isn’t an E3-like presentation. Those are called “showcases” and they’re where Sony unleashes its biggest titles, as it did last year with Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine. Such a presentation has not yet been announced.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero Gets New Trailer

A new teaser trailer for the highly anticipated upcoming film Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero has been released, highlighting some of the movie’s upcoming battle scenes.

RELATED: Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero to Get IMAX, 4DX, Dolby Cinema Screenings in Japan

The new teaser doesn’t give away too much, but does show brief glimpses of Gohan — both in regular and Super Saiyan forms — battling against Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 of the Red Ribbon Army. It also showcases the cleaner and more crisp animation style that director Tetsuro Kodama and original manga creator Akira Toriyama teased last year.

Check out the new Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero trailer below:

Originally set to premiere earlier in the year, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero was delayed following a hack that hit Toei Animation in March, forcing a variety of delays onto different series and other projects. Earlier this month, Crunchyroll confirmed that the film would be getting a global theatrical release in both subbed and dubbed formats, marking the first time that Crunchyroll would be globally distributing a theatrical release of a film.
