Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Has More Open Worlds, Streamlined Strategy, and a Playable Bowser

During a recent video showcase, Ubisoft detailed the gameplay changes coming to Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. The Mario-themed sequel to Kingdom Battle no longer has to prove that it has strategy chops. There are new playable Nintendo parodies via those rascally Rabbids and that spark of creativity that birthed the series in the first place. Still, the developers want to expand the niche with experimental changes to time-tested gameplay ideals.

Talking with Game Informer, Ubisoft Associate Producer Christina Nava mentioned that Sparks of Hope would open things up considerably compared to the corridors of Kingdom Battle. Outside of combat, there’s plenty to find both in and out of levels, encouraging exploration more than ever. In battles, Mario and his pals can now move in a small area without a grid, and teams can consist of any combination of Mario and Rabbid heroes. With fewer restrictions, Ubisoft hopes the game can reach beyond the traditional strategy audience and tap into the younger fans of both Mario and Rabbids games when it hits the Switch on October 20.

Beyond that, the team wants to bring it back to Super Mario RPG by adding Bowser to their playable roster of heroes. Mario’s archnemesis is a tank on the battlefield, only rivaled by Donkey Kong in his Kingdom Battle DLC campaign in terms of sheer presence. He can summon Koopa minions to fight alongside him, send shockwaves toward his enemies, and equip a magma-spitting rocket launcher known as the Bowzooka.

The Rabbid side of things adds a version of Rosalina that made a splash in the game’s debut trailer and Edge, a brand-new Rabbid with a mysterious past. This recent announcement features a ghastly Rabbid ghost that will undoubtedly make an impact somehow in the game.

Keep Breathing Trailer: Melissa Barrera Gets Stranded in Netflix Miniseries

Netflix has released an official trailer for Keep Breathing, its upcoming survival drama miniseries starring Scream actress Melissa Barrera. The series is scheduled to make its debut on Thursday, July 28.

The video, which you can check out below, features a woman who, after surviving a plane crash, must now try to keep herself alive in the middle of the Canadian wilderness. It also teases the things she’ll do in order to survive. As she battles exhaustion and desperation, she recalls different moments of her life, including the happy ones and the painful ones.

The limited series is written and created by Martin Gero and Brendan Gall, who are also set as showrunners. Joining Barrera are Jeff Wilbusch, Austin Stowell, Juan Pablo Espinosa, and Florencia Lozano.

“After her private plane crashes in the remote Canadian frontier, lone survivor and New York lawyer, Liv, must battle both an unforgiving wilderness and past personal traumas to stay alive,” reads the synopsis.

Keep Breathing is directed by Maggie Kiley and Rebecca Rodriguez. It is produced by Warner Bros. Television, with Kiley, Gero, and Gall serving as executive producers.

Barrera first gained recognition for her leading role as Lyn Hernandez in the Starz series Vida. She landed her first major Hollywood feature with Jon M. Chu’s musical drama In the Heights. The Mexican actress most recently starred in the fifth installment of Scream, and will be reprising her role as Sam Carpenter in the follow-up sequel.

Prime Video July 2022 Schedule: New TV & Movie Release Dates

The schedule for the movie and TV titles coming to Prime Video in July 2022 has been revealed, which you can view below. This includes series debuts of new Amazon original shows such as the coming-of-age sci-fi adventure drama Paper Girls, and the thriller drama The Terminal List starring Chris Pratt.

Next month will see the premiere of Amazon Studios’ newest comedy-drama film Don’t Make Me Go starring John Cho and Mia Isaac. Emmy winner Billy Porter’s feature directorial debut Anything’s Possible, a romantic comedy film which will also be available for streaming this July.

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Trailer Teases Jack Black’s Return

Netflix has dropped an official trailer for Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight, the forthcoming animated series featuring the return of Kung Fu Panda star Jack Black as Dragon Warrior Po. It will be available for streaming on July 14.

The video introduces Po’s newest enemies, Klaus and Veruca — a pair of weasels who are planning to take over the world. With the help of a new ally, Po must go on a mission to stop the villainous duo from achieving their evil plans.

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight is executive produced by Peter Hastings and Shaunt Nigoghossian, along with Chris Amick and Ben Mekler. Joining Black are franchise vet James Hong as Mr. Ping, Rita Ora as Wandering Blade, Chris Geere as Klaus Dumont, Della Saba as Veruca Dumont, Rahnuma Panthaky as Rukhmini, Ed Weeks as Colin, and Amy Hill as Pei Pei.

“When a mysterious pair of weasels set their sights on a collection of four powerful weapons, Po must leave his home to embark on a globe-trotting quest for redemption and justice that finds him partnered up with a no-nonsense English knight named Wandering Blade,” reads the synopsis. “Together, these two mismatched warriors set out on an epic adventure to find the magical weapons first and save the world from destruction – and they may even learn a thing or two from each other along the way.”

This marks the Golden Globe winner’s first Kung Fu Panda project outside of the film series. The lead character was previously voiced by Mick Wingert in TV spin-offs Nickelodeon’s Legends of Awesomeness and Prime Video’s Paws of Destiny.

The Kung Fu Panda franchise began in 2008, with the first film getting nominated for an Oscar Award for Best Animated Feature. It featured the voices of Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, Dustin Hoffman, James Hong, and Seth Rogen. Due to its success, it was followed by two more sequels in 2011 and 2016. The trilogy currently has a combined gross of over $1.8 billion at the worldwide box office.

Atari Teams With Digital Eclipse for 50th Anniversary Retro Collection

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Pong appearing at a local bar near Atari headquarters and breaking down repeatedly because the coin mechanism was too full of quarters. It wasn’t the first video game, but it was the one that broke the floodgates and created the gaming industry as we know it today. The current Atari doesn’t have a large connection to the innovative company of the past, but they have brought on the archival specialists at Digital Eclipse to create a 90-game collection that will let players everywhere experience the full history of gaming’s first first-party publisher. Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration is set for release later this year on Atari VCS, Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC for $39.99.

Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration will include the games people always think of when they hear the name Atari (even though the full list of games hasn’t been revealed). From Yar’s Revenge to Adventure, they’re all on the roster. However, Atari 50 reaches into the more obscure sections of the company’s past to give a full glimpse at gaming history. For the first time, Jaguar and Lynx games will see rerelease on modern consoles, joined by titles from Atari’s 2600, 5200, 7800, and ST.

Digital Eclipse (known for Mega Man Legacy Collection and the upcoming TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection) is going one step further with its latest retro compilation, presenting the huge list of included titles in an interactive timeline alongside 60 minutes of interviews with great minds from across the industry and the developers that brought these classics to life. If everything goes to plan, players will listen to a creator give context for a specific 2600 game and then load right in to experience it for themselves before returning to the timeline. The collection supports modern retro staples like save states as well, making it easy to jump around and experience everything Atari at your own pace, as well as button remapping, filters, and borders.

Atari 50 also includes six new games that remaster or remix classics from the past. There’s a remake of Yar’s Revenge, a new entry on the Tank series called Quadratank, and a mash-up that celebrates vector-based games that are otherwise hard to emulate on modern systems called Vctr Sctr. This reimagining links up with Atari’s recent Recharged series, which has seen everything from Asteroids to Breakout get a modern makeover. According to Game Informer, Atari 50 will also have the fourth chapter of Swordquest called Airworld, a 3D isometric adventure based on 1982’s Haunted House, and Neo Breakout, which is a combination of Breakout and Pong.

Paper Girls Teaser Previews Amazon’s Time-Traveling Teen Series

Prime Video has dropped the first teaser for its forthcoming sci-fi adventure drama Paper Girls, which will be available for streaming on July 29. The video teases 1980s teens Erin, Tiff, KJ, and Mac’s time-traveling dilemma after they find themselves trapped in the year 2019. As they try to find a way back to 1988, the quartet encounters the adult version of Erin.

Paper Girls is described as a high-stakes personal journey depicted through the eyes of four girls. It will be led by a young cast, including Camryn Jones as Tiffany Quilkin, Riley Lai Nelet as Erin Tieng, Sofia Rosinsky as Mac Coyle, and Fina Strazza as KJ Brandman. Ali Wong, Nate Corddry, and Adina Porter are also appearing in the series.

“In the early morning hours after Halloween 1988, four paper girls—Erin, Mac, Tiffany, and KJ—are out on their delivery route when they become caught in the crossfire between warring time-travelers, changing the course of their lives forever,” reads the synopsis. “Transported into the future, these girls must figure out a way to get back home to the past, a journey that will bring them face-to-face with the grown-up versions of themselves. While reconciling that their futures are far different than their 12-year-old selves imagined, they are being hunted by a militant faction of time-travelers known as the Old Watch, who have outlawed time travel so that they can stay in power. In order to survive, the girls will need to overcome their differences and learn to trust each other, and themselves.”

Paper Girls is a production by Amazon Studios and Legendary Television, in association with Plan B. Executive producers are Vaughan, Chiang, Christopher C. Rogers, Stephany Folsom, Christopher Cantwell, and Steven Prinz.

See Season 3 Teaser Previews the Final Chapter for Jason Momoa Series

Apple TV+ has officially announced that the Jason Momoa-led action sci-fi drama See will be concluding its run with the upcoming eight-episode third season, which will start streaming on August 26. The official See season three teaser has also been unveiled, teasing the final battle that Baba Voss must face in order to continue to protect his family.

“We are thrilled to share this epic final chapter of See, which delivers all the intense drama, riveting action, and heartfelt emotion fans have come to expect, as well as what we think is a deeply satisfying conclusion to our story,” showrunner and executive producer Jonathan Tropper said in a statement. “Building a world without sight was a particularly unique and continuous challenge that was met through the passionate and thoughtful collaboration of a phenomenally talented and diverse team both in front of and behind the camera. The show has been a monumental labor of love for all involved, and we are eternally grateful for the way See has been embraced by viewers around the world.”

See is a high concept series that takes place in a future where humanity has lost the ability to perceive the world with sight. It currently stars Jason Momoa, Sylvia Hoeks, Hera Hilmar, Christian Camargo, Archie Madekwe, Nesta Cooper, Tom Mison, Olivia Cheng, Eden Epstein, Michael Raymond-James, David Hewlett, and Trieste Kelly Dunn.

“In Season 3, almost a year has passed since Baba Voss (Momoa) defeated his nemesis brother Edo and bid farewell to his family to live remotely in the forest,” reads the synopsis. “But when a Trivantian scientist develops a new and devastating form of sighted weaponry that threatens the future of humanity, Baba returns to Paya in order to protect his tribe once more.”

See hails from executive producers Steven Knight (who also created Peaky Blinders), Francis Lawrence, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Jim Rowe, and Jonathan Tropper, who also serves as showrunner. The series is a production by Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content.

Michaela Coel, John Turturro, Paul Dano Join Cast of Amazon’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith

The cast of Donald Glover’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith reboot series for Amazon has gotten bigger, as Michaela Coel, John Turturro, and Paul Dano have all been cast in the series.

According to a recent report from Variety, the trio of actors are all set to star in the upcoming series, although exact character details for are being kept under wraps as of now. The series will star Glover and Maya Erskine as John and John, respectively, a couple who are hired into a mysterious spy agency that throws the pair into the world of espionage.

Coel is best known for her role in the limited series I May Destroy You, a series in which she created, directed, and starred in en route to winning an Emmy Award for best writing in a limited series. She’s set to star next in the highly anticipated Black Panther sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Turturro and Dano will also reunite on the project, as the pair most recently starred in the hit DC film The Batman.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith is a reboot series, based on Doug Liman’s 2005 action comedy of the same name. It is co-created and executive produced by Glover and Francesca Sloane, who are both serving as showrunners. The project will be part of Glover’s overall deal with Amazon Studios.

Executive producers are New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer and Wells Street Films’ Jenny Robins. It is scheduled to make its debut on Prime Video.

The original film was penned by Simon Kinberg and helmed by Doug Liman. It centered on an upper-class married couple who are surprised to learn that they’re both assassins at competing agencies and have been assigned to kill each other. It was led by Oscar winners Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

Interview: Marcel the Shell with Shoes On Director Dean Fleischer Camp on Marcel’s Origin

ComingSoon spoke with Marcel the Shell With Shoes On director Dean Fleischer Camp to discuss the adorable mockumentary comedy and its origins as a short. The film is currently playing in theaters in the United States.

“Marcel is an adorable, 1-inch-tall shell who ekes out a colorful existence with his grandmother, Connie, and their pet lint, Alan,” reads the film’s synopsis. “Once part of a sprawling community of shells, they now live alone as the sole survivors of a mysterious tragedy. However, when a documentary filmmaker discovers them, the short film he posts online brings Marcel millions of passionate fans, as well as unprecedented dangers and a new hope of finding his long-lost family.”

Jonathan Sim: Marcel is such an adorable character that’s been around for so many years. How did you and Jenny Slate originally come up with this interesting original idea of a talking shell?

Dean Fleischer Camp: Originally, it came from us messing around as I’m sure you probably can assume, but the voice came first. We were actually sharing — this is back in 2010 — a hotel room for a friend’s wedding with like nine other people to try to save money. And Jenny felt very cramped and started doing this tiny voice just to express how smushed she felt, and we were like laughing about it. And then when we got back to New York, I had forgotten that I agreed to make a video for my friend’s standup show, which was the following day. So I quickly was like, “Jenny, can I interview you in that voice? I’m going to make a character around it.” And then we ran out to a craft store and bought a bunch of supplies and animated and screened the short that became the first Marcel short for an audience, all within 48 hours.

And then I only put it online because … 2010, back then it wasn’t that common to post or I hadn’t been in the habit of posting everything online. I only put it online because a woman at that show asked if she could send it to her grandmother who was on bed rest and thought it would cheer her up. So that’s why I put it on YouTube.

It’s really amazing how once that happened, it took on this whole life of its own. It started out as a short film series, and now that it’s a feature, I wanted to ask, what was the writing process like to stretch that very simple concept into a 90-minute feature?

We really wanted to … I think everyone these days is so sick of projects that should be feature-length or something, but have been stretched into a 10-episode series. So we really wanted to not make a movie until we were sure it deserved it and not make a movie until we had kind of built his world out and his background and story such that it deserved this bigger telling. The writing process, after we had landed on what the story would be, was that Nick Paley, my co-writer, and I would write for a few months, and then we would record with Jenny, and then, later, the rest of the cast for two or three days. Then we would go back into writing mode for two or three months and we take all the stuff that we’d recorded and that recording with Jenny … she’s such a good improviser. She’d give us all this great stuff and we could pull out the gems and fold that into our screenplay and so we did that over and over again, that cycle, for almost three years.

And at the end of it, we had this great screenplay that both tells this longer, very beautiful story and has big emotional moments, but also has those spontaneous sounding documentary aesthetic dialogue, basically.

I was surprised by how well it ended up paying off ,because stop motion is such a unique animation style and it fits the vibe of this character so well. So I wanted to ask, what was that process like and how long did it ultimately take to make this feature film?

The film took seven years, front to back, which sounds like a lot, but I think those first three years are basically writing the screenplay. So I think probably if you folded the amount of time a movie takes to write into the amount of time it’s been in production, probably most movies would seem that long. But I would say from just the live action production to animation through post, it was I think four years. I agree with you that like stop motion animation has this incredible emotionality to it because it is imperfect. It’s literally animators moving this little sculpture one frame at a time, and therefore you end up with little globs of paint or glue or whatever … you see the actual thumbprints. And I think that because it’s sort of fallible in that way, it’s such an emotional art form.

Tell me about the cinematography in this film. What was the vibe that you wanted to capture while you were working with cinematographer, Bianca Cline?

That’s a really great question. People haven’t asked me that much about the cinematography. To me, it was really important that we maintain the doc authenticity of the shorts, but also of a story that really hinges on us, the audience, investing in this like little absurd character. And then also hinge on the sort of buddy comedy dynamic of Marcel and my character, Dean, that I play. So we really wanted the documentary, the filmmaking, to be expressive in that way. We wanted to feel the presence, a little bit of the filmmaker in the cinematography. It was about finding beauty in small things. So we were constantly trying to figure out, how do we shoot?

“How do we shoot the thing sort of from Marcel’s perspective without actually doing the like full on Honey, I Shrunk the Kids shrinking the camera itself?” So we were often trying to figure out, how do we highlight the things that are beautiful about a dusty corner of an old house? Creatively, [that was] what my conversations with Bianca were centered around. And then also, how do we keep it looking naturalistic while still lighting it? Because sometimes with stop motion, you obviously can’t shoot a shot that’s stop motion over the course of like … it would take many hours, and by that time, the sun would’ve set. So sometimes we’re controlling quote unquote naturalistic sunlight in order to achieve that effect.

But that is only actually half the story, because then there’s a separate stop motion shoot. So Marcel and all of his friends and family are all real stop motion. That’s all done after we shot the live action stuff. We then shoot the animated performances. And the trick with that, or the real challenge, is that those animated performances have to be lit exactly like the shot was shot, that they’re gonna be comped into. So our stop motion DP, Eric Adkins, was on set every day, taking the most intricate notes about where’s the sunlight, what time of day is it, is Marcel standing inches away from like a Coke can, that might reflect light onto him, so that he could recreate it perfectly on the stop motion stages. And it gets even more complicated when you realize that Marcel’s interacting with objects from the live action shoot.

So for example, when he’s in the car and there’s trees passing by and there’s flickers of shadow on Marcel, every time we pass a tree, that means that Eric had to look at the footage and say, “okay, we passed a tree at exactly this time code.” And then he has to automate a flag or like a black thing to pass by the light frame by frame, inch by inch. So that when the animators are animating, that shadow passes over Marcel’s head at the exact moment that we pass by the tree.

Marcel is this character with very adorable quotes. Is there a certain line that Marcel says a certain quote that sticks out to you as your favorite one?

You know, I think my favorite … he has so many great lines and many of them, I quote in my daily life all the time. I think one of my favorite lines from the film actually, isn’t a Marcel quote, but is a quote from Nana Connie, played by Isabella Rossellini, where Marcel says, “I’m afraid, what if everything changes again?” And she says with like this delightful sort of smile, “it will.” And it’s this pivotal moment where she urges Marcel to spread his wings and take a risk. And I just think it’s such a beautiful moment of very efficient screenwriting really on, in this case, Nick Paley’s part. And it says so much in just two words. And I think it’s so beautiful.

What would you like to do next in your career? And is there anything that you’re working on or any particular genre that you wanna work in?

Oh, wow. That’s great too. I mean, it’s so fun to think about these things now. I’ve been working on this film for so long that I’m kind of just catching up to the fact that it’s actually done, but I love working in forms that haven’t been explored really thoroughly before. So this was a project that partly appealed to me because of that stop motion/live action integration. I think there’s so much to be done now. I feel like we’re right on the brink of a real Renaissance in stop motion animation, because it’s such an old art form, but the ways that CG can either can supplement it or can make it easier to do are just about to really pop off in really incredible ways.

If anyone out there’s interested in it, this Netflix short called Robin Robin that a friend of mine made is just so beautiful and does such a great job of integrating CG effects or being able to layer stop motion in a beautiful way. I’m certainly interested in features and television, but I’m really interested in characters like Marcel that are sort of dismissively cute, or maybe dismissively funny, but then are sort of an emotional sneak attack. Because I basically make movies to try to trick my dad into crying in public. So anything that is a good opportunity for that, I’m into.

Sega Announces 11 More Games for Mega Drive Mini 2

Sega has unveiled 11 more games for the Mega Drive Mini 2, a new mini-console set to release in Japan on October 27. The Mega Drive Mini 2 is the follow-up to the console known as the Genesis Mini stateside, a machine with a vast collection of 42 games. The original launched in the United States and Japan simultaneously, but there are no public plans for a North American launch of the second generation mini-console.

Here are a few names that Genesis fans will recognize among the newly announced games. The second entries in the After Burner and Splatterhouse series are welcome additions to the lineup, as is the 16-bit rendition of OutRun. The mix of Genesis and Sega CD titles also means plenty of variety in this lineup. The complete list of newly revealed games is below:

There’s still hope for an American version of the system packed with retro hidden gems. Still, the console is already shaping up as a great collection, even as an import-only proposition.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero to Host Panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022

The highly-anticipated Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is set to arrive at San Diego Comic-Con ahead of the film’s North American release.

The movie’s appearance at the upcoming convention will include a panel for the movie which will feature a Q&A with talent and production members, including the guest of honor Toshio Furukawa, (the Japanese voice actor for Piccolo), Christopher R. Sabat (the English voice of Piccolo), executive producer Akio Iyoku, and producer Norihiro Hayashida.

Perhaps most exciting for fans in attendance, however, is that the first 20 minutes of the film will be shown off exclusively at the convention. Alongside the panel, Crunchyroll and Toei Animation are set to produce a one-of-a-kind Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero-themed booth that will include a replica of Piccolo’s house as shown in the film.

“The Red Ribbon Army was once destroyed by Son Goku. Individuals, who carry on its spirit, have created the ultimate Androids, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2,” reads the official synopsis. “These two Androids call themselves ‘Super Heroes’. They start attacking Piccolo and Gohan … What is the New Red Ribbon Army’s objective? In the face of approaching danger, it is time to awaken, Super Hero!”

The anime adaptation of Dragon Ball Super ended in March 2018 after 131 episodes aired. This marks the second movie for Dragon Ball Super, which is the highly successful sequel series to Dragon Ball Z. The first film was Dragon Ball Super: Broly, which was directed by Tatsuya Nagamine and written by Akira Toriyama. Broly took place after the events of the Universe Survival Saga and features Goku and Vegeta taking on the legendary Saiyan.

Kyle MacLachlan Joins Prime Video’s Fallout Series

Prime Video’s Fallout series has added another few stars to its roster, as Kyle MacLachlan, Xelia Mendes-Jones, and Aaron Moten are all set to join the cast.

According to Variety, the three will be regulars in the series. Kyle MacLachlan is likely the most recognizable name on the list, as he is famous for his roles in Twin Peaks, Portlandia, and Desperate Housewives. Mendes-Jones will be in the upcoming Netflix film Havoc, while Moten was most recently in Father Stu with Mark Wahlberg.

It’s currently unknown who these three will play, as Amazon has been keeping these details a secret. However, those details will probably come out sometime in the future.

Fallout takes place in the 1940s after a nuclear war and the television series will feature Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner as showrunners. Robertson-Dworet has writing credits on Captain Marvel and the 2018 Tomb Raider film, while Wagner has experience as an executive producer on Portlandia, Silicon Valley, and Baskets. Jonathan Nolan is set to direct the premiere.

The Fallout series was launched in 1997 on PC by Interplay Productions. However, its popularity ballooned in 2008 after Bethesda released Fallout 3 for consoles and PC, which gave it an ambitious action spin similar to its The Elder Scrolls fantasy games. Since then, Fallout 4, the multiplayer-focused Fallout 76, and a mobile title Fallout Shelter have been released.

Fallout marks yet another fantasy or sci-fi series for the streaming giant. The company already has shows coming from The Lord of the Rings, Blade Runner, and Mass Effect, an initiative that came out of The Wheel of Time‘s historic debut on Prime Video.

Jacob Batalon, Alana Boden, More Set to Star in Horrorscope Film Adaptation

Jacob Batalon, Alana Boden, Adain Bradley, and Avantika are all set to star in an upcoming film adaptation of the graphic novel Horrorscope.

The graphic novel — which released in 2021 — is itself an adaptation of a book which was written by Brian Evans, Mark Andrew Blitz, and Helen Marie Bousquet in 2014. Horrorscope tells the story of a group of college friends who get their horoscopes read and begin dying in ways connected to their fortunes. The group must then figure out if they can do anything to stop this from happening.

Filming is expected to begin sometime this fall according to Deadline, with a script written by Anna Halberg and Spenser Cohen, both of whom will be directing the film in their directorial debuts.

Batalon is best known for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ned Leeds, the best friend of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Batalon is also set to produce and star as the titular character Reginald Baskin in Syfy’s upcoming Reginald the Vampire, as well as the Netflix heist thriller Lift alongside Kevin Hart.

Boden is set to star in A&E/Lifetime MOW’s Flowers In The Attic: The Origins as well as the upcoming film The Invitation. John Williams Says Indiana Jones 5 May Be His Final Film

Composer John Williams is known for creating some of the most iconic and memorable scores in all of film history. However, the legendary musician recently said that he may be ready to hang it up soon.

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Williams — who is currently working on the score for the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 — said that the latest entry in the Indiana Jones series may be his final film.

“At the moment I’m working on Indiana Jones 5, which Harrison Ford — who’s quite a bit younger than I am — I think has announced will be his last film,” Williams said. “So, I thought: If Harrison can do it, then perhaps I can, also.”

While Ford himself has not outright confirmed that the fifth Indiana Jones film will be his last, he has said that it will be the last time he plays the Indiana Jones character. However, Williams (90) did cite his age as a factor in his decision, as well as the fact that a film like Star Wars could take up to six months to work on, which is something Williams notes “at this point in life is a long commitment to me.”

Despite his potential retirement from the world of Hollywood, Williams will continue to compose concert music, including a recent piano concerto he’s writing for pianist Emanuel Ax. Earlier this year, Williams and famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma also released an album, A Gathering of Friends, that was recorded alongside the New York Philharmonic, Pablo Sáinz-Villegas, and Jessica Zhou.

Nintendo Announces Direct Mini for Tomorrow

Users have been waiting for Nintendo to hold a seasonal Direct that would be akin to an E3 showing. It’s not clear if that is coming, but the company did announce a Direct Mini that will focus on third-party games. It’ll stream on June 28 at 6 a.m. PT.

Nintendo revealed the Direct Mini on its Twitter account. The video will be around 25 minute and have information about various third-party Switch games.

The emphasis on third-party titles means that this will not be the place to learn more about Nintendo’s upcoming first-party slate. A Direct on those titles has not been confirmed as of yet. Pokémon Scarlet, Pokémon Violet, and Splatoon 3 are have confirmed dates — September 9 and November 18, respectively — but the rest of its games are more ambiguous.

The delayed Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp has yet to get a new release date. Bayonetta 3 is still supposed to come out in 2022, but Nintendo has not been more specific and hasn’t revealed much about the highly anticipated action title. The untitled sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was delayed to spring 2023, yet Nintendo hasn’t spoken much about it. Reports and leaks have also pointed to Nintendo releasing a Metroid Prime remake this year. All of these announced and unannounced games means that, even if it a lighter later 2022 for the company, it still has some things to showcase in another proper Direct.

How Players’ Wall Punch Joke Cost Paramount So Much Money

Players‘ first trailer was full of humor and gags, but one of the most unexpected jokes was when one of the series’ main character Creamcheese punches a wall and crumples to the ground in pain claiming he hit a stud. It became one of the show’s standout jokes, but it ended up being much more than a joke, as actor Misha Brooks broke his hand doing the scene. This goof ended up requiring a lot of CG, longer clothes, and reshoots to hide the injured appendage.

Co-Creator Tony Yacenda explained this in an interview with ComingSoon. Brooks could be seen wearing a cast in early unfinished screeners of the show, so when prompted on what happened, Yacenda talked about how that one bit was the reason why.

“That was the first take of that scene and he broke his hand and we used it,” he said. “It’s in the trailer. But for the last two weeks of the shoot, he had a cast. So it was a combination of putting him in sweatshirts, some VFX, and then a couple of reshoots way down the line.”

And since there were reshoots and visual effects, the simple joke ended up being somewhat costly. According to fellow co-creator Dan Perrault, it was their “most expensive joke.”

It wasn’t an improvised “gamer rage” move, either, as the joke was written beforehand and included punching the wall. They even put some padding in the walls to cushion the blow. But Yacenda admitted that there was very little padding, something he said Brooks would attest to.

Disney+ Schedule Additions: New TV & Movies Arriving June 27-July 3

The first animated series from Walt Disney Animation Studios is just a few days away.

On June 29, Baymax! will be officially released on Disney+. The loveable healthcare companion who made his debut in Big Hero 6 will be back with a brand-new set of adventures. The spin-off series will see the return of Scott Adsit, Ryan Potter, and Maya Rudolf, reprising their respective roles of Baymax, Hiro Hamada, and Aunt Cass. Per the synopsis:

“The all-new series of healthcare capers returns to the fantastical city of San Fransokyo, where the affable, inflatable, inimitable healthcare companion robot, Baymax, sets out to do what he was programmed to do: help others.”

The spin-off series comes from the Oscar-winning 2014 film’s director, Don Hall, with a screenplay by Cirocco Dunlap. An ensemble of directors will alternate on the show, including Dean Wellins, Lissa Treiman, Dan Abraham, and Mark Kennedy. In addition to the returning Big Hero 6 actors, the cast features Emily Kuroda, Lilimar, Zeno Robinson, and Jaboukie Young-White.

Ms. Marvel has already passed its midpoint. The series featuring newcomer Iman Vellani as the titular heroine has introduced Kamala Khan into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Being a teenager is never easy, but being a superpowered teenager is ever more complicated. Still, Khan has what it takes to overcome her everyday challenges. The cast also features Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman, Travina Springer, and Nimra Bucha.

Mad Max: Fury Road Prequel Furiosa Gets Official Synopsis

Not too much is known about the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa. However, the first official synopsis for the film has been released, hinting at how the story of the iconic Furiosa will unfold.

The synopsis comes courtesy of Warner Bros. (via SFFGazette.com), and teases the upcoming tale centered around Furiosa, a character initially introduced in Fury Road and played by Charlize Theron. In the upcoming film, Furiosa’s (played by Anya Taylor-Joy) origin story will be told, including how the woman makes it through a variety of trials after being taken into the hands of a great Biker Horde.

“As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus,” reads the synopsis for the upcoming film. “Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”

The film will be led by Golden Globe winner Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit), Chris Hemsworth (Avengers: Endgame), and Tom Burke (Mank). The latter replaced Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who exited the project due to scheduling conflicts.

The Mad Max prequel is written and directed by George Miller, who is co-producing the film along with Oscar-nominated producer Doug Mitchell. Miller’s Australian-based Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner is also attached to produce.

Even though the film had a poor box-office turnout with a worldwide gross of over $370 million, Mad Max: Fury Road was still a critical success, with critics praising its cinematography, production design, and the performances of Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, who both had a difficult time during filming. It also won six Oscar awards out of 10 nominations, including Best Production Design, Best Film Editing, and Best Costume Design.

Nothing better than the conclusion of Stranger Things Season 4 to begin July on the right foot.

In June, Netflix debuted Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 1, featuring the return of Eleven, Mike, and all the Hawkins inhabitants. In the upcoming Volume 2, there will be a huge showdown between Eleven and Vecna. The series currently stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, and Finn Wolfhard, among others.

You can get a taste of what’s coming next in the teaser.

Next week, Netflix will also drop the latest adaptation of Bastard -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy, the manga written by Kazushi Hagiwara. The story first debuted on Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1988 and follows the misadventures of 14-year-old Luche Renren. The setting recalls Dungeons & Dragons and it features plenty of magic, evil monsters and wild beasts. The series is 24-episode long, but it will be split into two parts.

The cast features Kanae Ito, Tomokazu Sugita, Kensho Ono, and Nao Toyama. Kazuhiro Inoue (Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded-Orphans, Zombie Land Saga) handles the art direction for the new series. The official release of the second part has yet to be announced but it should be somewhere before the end of 2022.

Marvel Studios Returning to San Diego Comic-Con After Three Years

For the first time in three years, Marvel Studios will be returning to San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H, with fans excited about the potential announcements to come.

After rumors began to circulate online that the company would not be returning to the convention for a fourth straight year, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige debunked that personally, revealing during a virtual press conference for Thor: Love and Thunder that the company would be in attendance, and with many things to discuss.

“Yeah, we’ll be at Comic-Con next month, which we’re excited about,” said Feige (via Comic Book Movie). “The first time since we were on stage there [since] three years ago talking about this movie and many others. And now, I think almost everything we discussed three years ago has now been released. So yes, we’re excited to go and talk about the future.”

With the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4 reaching its midway point with the release of Thor: Love and Thunder, many of the films coming after that — including Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Marvels, Fantastic Four, and Blade — are complete mysteries to fans.

Combined with the fact that several Disney+ series are also still set to come later this year, Marvel Studios should have a ton to talk about at their panel. While Marvel Studios hasn’t appeared at the last three iterations of SDCC, their past appearances have come to much fanfare, and have often included various announcements, as well as surprise appearances by MCU cast members.

Spy x Family Season 1 Part 2 Trailer Previews Return

A new trailer for the second half of Spy x Family episodes set to debut later this year has been released, teasing the final half of the series’ run so far.

After ending its first run — which lasted 12 episodes — of episodes over the weekend, Spy x Family will return sometime in October with its final 13 episodes. The series itself will consist of 25 episodes, with the future of the series unknown beyond that.

The anime adaptation features Takuya Eguchi in the role of elite spy Loid Forger, while the voice actors for Yor and Anya are still unknown. Kazuhiro Furuhashi (Dororo) is directing the anime, with Kazuaki Shimada (The Promised Neverland) providing character designs, and [K]NoW_NAME (Sakura Quest) providing music for the adaptation.

“Agent Twilight, the greatest spy for the nation of Westalis, has to infiltrate an elite private school,” reads the official synopsis for the manga. “In order to do so he assumes the identity of psychiatrist Loid Forger, adopts an orphan girl, and marries a city hall employee. Unknown to him, his daughter Anya is a telepath and his wife Yor is an assassin. The three learn to become a family while working to complete Twilight’s missions and maintain world peace.

The Boys Season 3 Episode 6 ‘Herogasm’ Recap, Theories, and Thoughts

Right out of the gate, let me address the elephant in the room: this is the first write-up I’ve done for The Boys. Unfortunately, it arrives for your viewing pleasure (or pain) near the tail end of Season 3. What can I say? I’m late to the party. Also, I should point out that I only became a fan of the show last summer when my brother ordered me to watch the first episode — I binged the rest in less than a week, then immediately regretted not dragging out the experience a little longer.

So, yeah, I’m a fan. Though, admittedly, I couldn’t recall much of the first few seasons from memory heading into Season 3. Either old age has finally caught up to me, or the show didn’t leave a lasting imprint on my brain outside of a few brazenly shocking moments. At any rate, once I finished the first two seasons, The Boys more or less drifted from memory. In other words: these kinds of weekly recaps are designed for guys like me. Sorry.

Thoughts on The Boys Season 3 So Far

Okay, so we’re on Episode 6 of the current season and I gotta say, so far the junior year has been a little rocky. I still mostly like the characters and the overall design of the show, and Homelander remains one of the more fascinating villains ever created, but I guess I’m not seeing the big picture here. This season drags audiences through the mud to point out everything wrong with society — no, really, everything! — without giving us much to root for. To what end? I’m all for dark, satirical comedy, but this is starting to feel like the equivalent of watching CNN on a Friday night. (Though, admittedly, that bit involving Termite was hilarious — awful, but hilarious.)

The Boys‘ first two seasons were certainly bleak and relished taking not-so-subtle jabs at politics left and right, but the plot occasionally veered away from the Nazis, white supremacists, misogynists, corrupt political leaders, evil corporations, and over-the-top violence to focus on Hughie (Jack Quaid) and Annie/Starlight’s (Erin Moriarty) budding relationship, and Butcher’s (Karl Urban) lingering grief over his wife’s disappearance. We cared for these people and sincerely wanted them to succeed in their quest to bring down Homelander (though, based on these first five episodes, he might be the least of their worries) and the evil Vought corporation.

This season, the showrunners have turned Hughie into a power-driven asshole who suddenly hates that he has to ask Starlight to open a tightly sealed jar and made Butcher take a nose dive into the deep end of the psycho pool the moment he developed (injected?) superpowers. Our only glimpse at humanity lies in Laz Alonso’s MM, Tomer Capone’s Frenchie, and Karen Fukuhara’s Kimiko Miyashiro, who all continue to provide strong support in smaller, pivotal roles.

As for Homelander, aside from his big speech at the end of Episode 2, am I the only one who thinks he’s becoming a little redundant — nay, even cartoonish in a Ramsay Bolton sort of way? At one point, he incinerates one of Starlight’s friends and the moment falls flat because the cruel act doesn’t tell us anything new about the character. We know Homelander is a psycho who thinks he is above the law (and humanity in general). Now what? The first episode teased a showdown between him and Butcher, and subsequent episodes have awkwardly spun their wheels attempting to reach that inevitable destination.

I suppose that’s why Episode 6, titled “Herogasm,” was advertised as the most graphic depiction of sex on TV ever! Hey, they have to keep the masses entertained before the big finale, right? Though, it must be asked: is The Boys a little too over-reliant on shock value? Is that really what audiences come to see?

Anyways, that’s my takeaway from the first five episodes. Don’t let the negativity fool you. This is still a really good show. I just need a little more heart to go with my exploding heads.

What Happened in The Boys Season 3, Episode 6

Hilariously, the episode begins with a mocking homage to that silly “Imagine” celebrity music video that, er, graced social media back during the COVID-19 lockdown period. Except, instead of Gal Gadot and Natalie Portman, The Boys’ version features the likes of Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, along with a host of other celebrities who weren’t asked/were cut from/were smart enough to turn down the chance to participate in that media misfire. (The Boys previously poked fun at that silly Kendall Jenner ad from a few years back, albeit using A-Train’s soda brand in place of Pepsi. See, people, Hollywood can make fun of itself.)

The video cuts to the security footage of Soldier Boy leaving Chimp Country after murdering Crimson Countess. Homelander, Ashley, and the Deep watch said footage in shock. After all, Soldier Boy is supposed to be dead.

“Maybe it’s CGI,” the Deep says, causing Ashley to roll her eyes.

“You don’t even know what CGI means,” she says.

“It means blow me,” he snaps back. (Dying!)

Ashley can’t fathom why Soldier Boy would kill Crimson Countess. “They were like Kurt and Goldie,” she exclaims before word vomiting a series of media instructions. Homelander quickly cuts her off and calmly explains they can’t tell the world Soldier Boy is alive and murdering people. He’s the hero of heroes, see? And also the former face of Vought. This news could ruin the company — and also fulfill Stan Edgar’s (Giancarlo Esposito) prophecy from a few episodes back in which he stated Homelander would come crawling back once the shit hit the fan.

Naturally, Homelander decides he needs to kill Soldier Boy real quick-like.

To confirm his decision, he heads out to speak with Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell), who served under Soldier Boy some years back. Upon hearing the news of his former leader’s survival, Black Noir calmly removes a tracker from his arm, hands it to a nearby woman, and runs away. Crazy that he’s more afraid of Soldier Boy than his current boss.

(Is The Boys doing that thing where they introduce an even more powerful bad guy than the main bad guy, giving a reason for the main bad guy to team up with the main good guy?)

We cut to Hughie, Butcher, and Soldier Boy chilling in an apartment. The former “hero” talks about how he was “wired to the fucking gills” on D-Day before Butcher steps in and tries to figure out the dynamics of this new team. (Hughie attempts to lift Soldier Boy’s shield with no visible result.) After some back and forth, Soldier Boy agrees to help take down Homelander — but only after Butcher helps him find and eliminate the rest of his traitorous Payback squad. He then leans down to snort some “bennies,” just in case you didn’t already peg the man as psychotic. The Boys ain’t subtle.

Meanwhile, Kimiko, still recovering from wounds sustained during her confrontation with Soldier Boy, wanders around the hospital sucking down popsicles. Suddenly, she’s attacked by a big guy and dragged away kicking and screaming.

Elsewhere, Starlight and MM discuss Soldier Boy’s intentions. MM brandishes a gun.

“I think Soldier Boy is bulletproof,” Starlight says before advising the vengeance-seeking man to stand down.

This draws some frustration from MM. “Why do I always have to take the high road? You know, when white folks get mad, y’all motherfuckers go berserk, but I got to turn the other cheek?” This show is anything but subtle.

Speaking of which, we get an extremely cringey promo advertising A-Train’s trip to Africa. Ashley groans — the ad is terrible — but then A-Train arrives. “Hey,” she says, immediately plastering a phony smile on her face. “It looks great. Man, there’s so much strength in dignity.” A-Train is pissed about Blue Hawk for paralyzing his brother and wants justice. Ashley tries to remain “diplomatic,” but this enrages A-Train.

“You know, whatever,” A-Train says. “I don’t need you.”

Ashley finally blows a gasket and reminds A-Train about all of his prior misdeeds (including the several murders he committed throughout the series), which she had to cover for. “You did not give a shit about all the collateral you caused then. Now, all of a sudden, you care because it happened to you?” I mean, she’s not wrong. Though, considering everything she’s done throughout the show, her standing up to A-Train is a little hypocritical, no? None of these people are good.

We cut to the Deep telling Homelander that Black Noir has vanished. Homelander is shocked. “He wouldn’t run,” he says, suddenly noticing that his list of allies has grown very thin. Deep correctly opines Soldier Boy is offing his former crew and thinks he’ll hit the “TNT twins” next; and offers to head to Vermont to survey the scene. Homelander gives his approval, but urges him to call should Soldier Boy turn up.

There’s a great bit in which Homelander speaks with himself in a mirror Gollum style and confesses his fear of Soldier Boy. He then, surprisingly, becomes emotional and declares his desire for people to love him. “We’ve got to cut that part of you out like a cancer,” evil Homelander says to evil (crying) Homelander. “Then you can be what you were always meant to be.” We know Homelander will go nuclear at some point, it’s just a matter of when and why. Maybe his kid gets killed? Just a hunch.

Back with Soldier Boy, the former star watches his own A-Team-like TV show and criticizes the twins for their inability to hit a mark. A Starlight Diapers commercial featuring a dad walking with a toddler draws his attention. “Do men really walk around like that,” he asks.

“Yeah,” Hughie says. “I mean, dads do.”

Soldier Boy scoffs. “Bill Cosby is America’s dad, and, tell you one thing, he wouldn’t be caught dead in that pussy gear.”

“Lot to unpack there,” Hughie quips.

“The Cos, now that’s a real man,” Soldier Boy continues. “Holy shit, did he make some strong drinks.” You know, because Bill Cosby … never mind. Soldier Boy goes on a tangent about his version of the real man (this show really wants us to know toxic masculinity is bad) before exclaiming how much he gave to this country (as Hughie nervously checks the Geiger counter to make sure Soldier Boy isn’t about to go nuclear). “And what did I get for it?” He admits to once desiring kids with Countess. For all their despicable acts, these superheroes are always given a chance to display a human side. As is the case with Homelander, Soldier Boy was given this special gift, but human frailties mixed with the pressure of fame and duty ultimately sapped him of his humanity.

Hughie uses the intimate moment to ask the truth about Midtown. Soldier Boy casts a sideways glance in his direction, but claims he doesn’t know. “I blacked out. About ten minutes. When I came to the damage was done. I didn’t mean to hurt those people. I’m not a bad guy,” he says before noting it might happen again, “Only if they got it coming.” Great scene.

Butcher comes in and whisks them off to an address in Vermont, but not before he and Hughie do a little superhero heroine.

The Deep has already found the twins — Tessa is wrapped in tight black leather, while Tommy boasts a cape, gold underwear, and not much else. Friendly chit-chat about how the Deep got railroaded by Starlight (what?) eventually leads to the sea hero heading inside the TNT home to check out their party. We hear music, moans, and see the look on Deep’s face. “This is Herogasm,” he says in awe. The camera zooms into his eye —

Cut to, Homelander on the set of a news program. He twitches as the reporter gets her makeup done. Starlight appears and takes the seat next to her evil co-captain. Surprisingly, he takes her hand and states, “I’m really glad you’re here. I missed you.” Starlight throws up in her mouth a little, but (like us) can’t quite decide if he’s being genuine. Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) arrives unexpectedly to sit in on the interview. Uh oh.

Things go well until the reporter dares to veer off script and discuss the fear Americans are facing due to the 19 dead left in Soldier Boy’s wake (though, I don’t think anyone knows it’s Soldier Boy just yet). Homelander snaps, cuts off Neuman’s retort, and proclaims, “There is no problem. It is safe to go out. Period.” He then stomps off the set, leaving the host to awkwardly promote making empanadas with Rachel Ray.

Neuman invites Starlight for a drink. Once alone, she basically comes clean as the head popper. Starlight’s eyes glow … “Oh come on Annie,” Neuman says. “Put them away. I’m not going to hurt you, or Hughie or your families. Besides, you’d lose.” She then implores Starlight to team up with her. Neuman can protect her from Homelander, and Starlight can boost Neuman’s numbers enough to get her education reform bill passed. “We can make things better, Annie,” she says. “For my daughter. For a lot of daughters.”

Starlight throws the offer back in Neuman’s face. She’s tired of this “whatever it takes” crap. “You’re just going to end up sitting on top of a steaming pile of shit that you built … I’m done.” Neuman says she won’t be able to do anything if Homelander kills her. “Yeah, maybe,” Starlight snaps back. “But then I’ll know I’m not working with a fucking nut job.” As always, Starlight remains the lone voice of reason on this show.

We find Kimiko tied to a chair next to Cherie. Nina arrives with a bruised and bloodied Frenchie in tow. The mobster demeans Frenchie and then tells him he must choose between the two women. No need. Kimiko breaks from her handcuffs and beats the living snot out of her captors. Brutal.

Meanwhile, Starlight and MM head to Vermont (I think?) and the latter discusses what happened to his grandfather. Apparently, Soldier Boy tried to stop some kids from stealing a Benz. The situation got out of hand and Soldier Boy ended up chucking that Benz through MM’s house, effectively killing his granddad. MM feels like it was his fault for waking his granddad up; and reveals the moment (justifiably) left him emotionally scarred. He has to wake up several times a night just to make sure Soldier Boy isn’t outside.

The dynamic duo arrive at the TNT mansion and are greeted by Love Sausage and his, um, really long pal. He implores Starlight to join in on the 70th Anniversary of Herogasm. Reluctantly, the pair head inside to see the C-list superstar love fest, and poor MM … he, ah, takes a huge one for the team. Starlight’s reactions in this entire sequence killed me. At least she has the wherewithal to realize the massacre that will occur if they don’t move these people out of the mansion before Soldier Boy arrives.

Too late. Butcher, Hughie, and Soldier Boy survey the scene from just outside the mansion. Fun tidbit: we learn Soldier Boy and Liberty, aka Stormfront, founded Herogasm in 1952. So, uh, there’s that.

Anyways, Soldier Boy wants to head inside, but Hughie manages to convince him to wait for three minutes while he teleports inside to find the twins. I love that Hughie’s powers leave him naked. So damned funny. Even as a superhero, the show still finds ways to humble the poor guy.

Inside, Starlight talks to a very nude Blue Hawk, who refuses to believe Soldier Boy is still alive. Blue Hawk notes that Homelander said everything is good, and that the mainstream media just wants her to live in fear. “Do your research,” he says. Hey, that’s like the whole Covid thing!

Starlight continues to wander about the house and eventually bumps into the Deep having sex with an octopus. Remember when Jason Biggs screwed an apple pie? Yeah, it’s kinda like that. “Why are you here,” Starlight asks. When Deep refuses to answer, Starlight pulls out a phone and snaps a photo. “Homelander’s gonna love this,” she says. Panicked, Deep explains that he is there because of Homelander.

Elsewhere, Hughie finds the twins arguing over bathroom cameras. Gross. He also happens to run into (a fully clothed) A-Train. Empowered with his superhero venom, Hughie takes the opportunity to confront the man who killed Robin, his former love. “You never said you were sorry,” he says.

Surprisingly, A-Train stops, removes his glasses, and genuinely states, “I’m sorry. It’s fucked up, seeing somebody that you love get hurt like that.” Hughie punches him anyway. A-Train is shocked by his strength and speed. “How did you do that,” he screams. Starlight intervenes before the fight escalates.

Once alone, Starlight asks Hughie if Soldier Boy is near. “He’s only here for the twins,” Hughie says. “No one else has to get hurt.”

“You don’t get to decide who to serve up on a platter,” Starlight says, clearly having missed the whole hidden cameras conversation between the TNT twins. “These are real people. We need to clear the house now.” Hughie says he made Soldier Boy promise not to kill anyone besides TNT. “Hughie, stop it,” Starlight says. “Homelander is coming.”

The pair spot Soldier Boy and when Starlight goes to stop him, Hughie teleports them out of the mansion. Now, fully exposed, the couple fully expose their emotions. Hughie just wants to save her every now and again. “You don’t need to save me,” Starlight says.

“Right,” Hughie shoots back. “God forbid I help you because I always have to be the weak one, the one you have to rescue.”

“I thought you didn’t care about that,” Starlight says, reminding him of their conversation on their first date.

“It does. Sometimes. A little,” Hughie says.

A lot to digest there. I can’t tell if this show is self aware or preachy.

Anyways, back inside the mansion, MM conveniently bumps into Soldier Boy in a secluded hallway. MM prepares to exact revenge, but Butcher arrives and tells Soldier Boy to go and get the twins. (Honestly, would it kill this show to have a superhero who isn’t a colossal dick? These guys are all so horrible and completely free of nuisance it’s borderline cartoonish.) Angered, MM grabs a bat. “So, you get to kill Homelander, but I can’t get Soldier Boy,” he says. “You’re a hypocrite.” He then proceeds to wail on Butcher, who seems to only want to protect his friend from certain death.

Soldier Boy confronts the twins who claim Noir was responsible for his incarceration. Before Soldier Boy can make a move, he hears a familiar song playing nearby which triggers a flashback and causes him to detonate.

Starlight hears the commotion and tries to leap into action. Hughie stops her. “I’m not gonna let you go,” he says. So toxic. She punches him across the pavement.

Back at the mansion, the party has clearly died. Bloodied guests poor out of the wreckage. Deep runs away with his octopus. A-Train spots Blue Hawk and says they need to talk. Instead, he grabs the psycho’s boot and speeds off. Blue Hawk’s corpse is torn to bits as its dragged behind A-Train at supersonic speed. A-Train stops, his heart pounding the way doctors said it would if he went too fast. He collapses in the street and (maybe) dies.

We then see Termite back at the mansion, crawling helplessly on the ground. He’s in his tiny form so no one can hear him. Homelander (who can probably hear him) arrives and crushes him without remorse. Shit’s about to go down!

Inside, Butcher bumps into Soldier Boy, who is once again oblivious to his actions. Then, Homelander appears and is shocked to see Butcher. “It really is all about me,” he says with a little smile. “William, we made a deal to fight to death, you and me. This is cheating. Deal’s off.” He blasts Butcher with his laser beams.

Soldier Boy stares down Homelander. They exchange insults. I’m not sure who to root for here. “You’re just a cheap knockoff,” Soldier Boy says.

“Oh no, I’m the upgrade,” Homelander says, probably wishing someone was recording the event.

The fight starts, and both supermen are continually stunned by the other’s strengths.

Nearby, MM attempts to seize the opportunity to take down Soldier Boy. Starlight stops him and implores our lone hero to help the wounded instead. “He doesn’t control you,” she reasons. Reluctantly, he agrees. Also, he should know he doesn’t stand a chance against Soldier Boy or Homelander.

Nearby, Homelander gets the upper hand and makes to destroy Soldier Boy but Butcher jumps in with an “Oi!” He then blasts Homelander with his own lasers.

“What have you done,” Homelander says, bemused, but also a little in awe.

More fighting. Soldier Boy recovers and joins in, followed by a very naked Hughie. The three eventually pin Homelander to the ground and Soldier Boy makes to eradicate the bastard, but our evil antagonist manages to slip away just in the nick of time. Good stuff.

Outside, MM and Starlight help the wounded. They catch a glimpse of Soldier Boy, Hughie, and Butcher leaving the wreckage; and clearly, the team is divided. So am I. War is hell, but they can’t keep living in fear of Homelander — but they can’t lose sight of who they are, either. What to do?

Meanwhile, Frenchie tends to Kimiko. The young warrior worries she’s just a monster; and in a tender moment, tells Frenchie that nothing Nina said was true.

We then cut to Homelander looking in the same mirror he spoke to himself in before. Except, this time, he’s alone. Perhaps, he’s finally ready to be what he truly wants to be…

Finally, back with MM and Starlight, the pair decide to film the carnage and reveal Soldier Boy’s identity and Homelander’s corruption live on social media. She explains that she’s no longer Starlight, but Annie; and that she “fucking quits.”

All in all, a good episode with some solid action, a lot of gross-out sex, and plenty of very on-the-nose politics. The Boys is mostly rough and ragged fun — a little preachy, but still fun.
