Gene Kelly Collection Blu-ray Review: 4 Classic Movie Musicals

Few are synonymous with a genre of film like Gene Kelly is with Hollywood musicals. The incredible singer and dancer had chops as a director and actor as well, proving he was the charismatic full package. Now four of Kelly’s finest movies are available in high-definition at an affordable price thanks to the Gene Kelly Collection Blu-ray release.

“Here are four of the amazing Gene Kelly classics together in a superb collection. His film debut opposite Judy Garland in For Me and My Gal, their re-teaming in Vincente Minnelli’s The Pirate, the Oscar-winning Best Picture masterpiece An American in Paris with Leslie Caron and a Gershwin score, and perhaps the greatest musical film of all-time, Singin’ in the Rain with Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor,” says the official description.

The first two films in the Gene Kelly Collection are two collaborations with the equally wonderful Judy Garland. First is 1942’s For Me and My Gal, which is actually Kelly’s film debut and Garland’s first “adult” role. Both leads are wonderful in the film, which deals with World War I, and there are some memorable songs, especially the title track. 1948’s The Pirate sees Garland and Kelly reunite, and it’s among the best of their films together, and seeing Kelly be a swashbuckler is quite fun.

The final two films in the collection are two of the most iconic musicals ever made. 1951’s An American in Paris is a Best Picture winner and features some of Kelly’s best choreography. Meanwhile, Singin’ in the Rain is my favorite film of Kelly’s filmography and is a wonderful look at Hollywood in the late 1920s. Thankfully, all four films look and sound great, so you get to fully appreciate these iconic performances.

Each movie’s individual disc includes several bonus features. For Me and My Gal includes an audio commentary by historian John Fricke, two MGM shorts featuring Garland, some outtakes, and audio performances. The Pirate has another commentary by Fricke, a 19-minute featurette taking a look at its legacy, a classic short (You Can’t Win), a Tom and Jerry cartoon, and radio interviews with Kelly and Garland. Meanwhile, An American in Paris features an audio commentary by Patricia Ward Kelly (Gene’s widow) that includes several interviews, a 42-minute behind-the-scenes documentary, an even longer PBS documentary on the film, audio outtakes, and several radio interviews. Finally, Singin’ on the Rain features a commentary track celebrating the film’s impact (Baz Luhrmann and more make appearances), a 51-minute look at the film’s legacy, and its original trailer.

Gene Kelly Collection Blu-ray Review: Final Verdict

While An American in Paris and Singin’ in the Rain need no introduction, all four films in the Gene Kelly Collection Blu-ray is fun and worth revisiting. All of the movies look and sound great, so you’ll find yourself singing along in no time. Each disc features a bevvy of bonus features, so there’s plenty to learn even for longtime fans of the Pittsburgh native.

Best Mystery Series on Paramount Plus (February 2026)

Best Paramount Plus Mystery Series

Despite dark alleys and murder investigations being central to many mystery dramas, they aren’t the only factors that make this genre so addictive. Whether you’re into classic whodunnits, supernatural thrillers, procedural dramas, or something in between, Paramount+ has no shortage of solid options. We’ve narrowed down our favorites to help you get started. Here are our picks for the best mystery series on Paramount Plus.

What are the best mystery series on Paramount Plus?

For this list, we wanted to include a solid variety of mystery series, rather than just stacking them with standard crime procedurals. Paramount Plus definitely has plenty of those if that’s what you’re looking for (NCIS, CSI), but we also opted for shows that put a twist on the formula. There are also some great “crime meets the unexplained” picks on the platform, including Medium, the long-running fan favorite starring Patricia Arquette.

Evil

This five-season supernatural mystery thriller perfectly mashes multiple styles and tones that take this from entertaining to compelling — no power other than that of good writing, acting, and vision required. Evil follows Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), a forensic psychologist who is hired to assist the Catholic Church in investigating cases involving possible demonic possession, hauntings, miracles, and other unexplained events. She works alongside David Acosta (Mike Colter), a priest-in-training, and Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi), a technical specialist. As they examine disturbing incidents, Kristen attempts to find logical explanations, while the team takes on cases that challenge their beliefs.

School Spirits

School Spirits still doesn’t have as much attention as it should, despite being in Season 3. Though somewhat geared more toward younger audiences — the Executive Producer worked on Pretty Little Liars — this is still a great show for any age. Maddie Nears (Peyton List) is a teenager who wakes up dead and trapped in the afterlife at her high school. With no memory of how she died, Maddie joins a group of other student ghosts who have been stuck in this sort of limbo for years. She begins investigating her own death while watching how her friends and family react in the world of the living. As Maddie searches for answers, she uncovers secrets about the people around her and what may have led to her disappearance.

Dexter

Even with later sequels and spin-offs expanding the franchise, the original Dexter, which first aired in 2006 during the glory days of Showtime, remains the definitive version of the story. Set in Miami, the series follows Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a highly skilled blood-spatter analyst with the Miami Metro Police Department. By day, he helps solve brutal crimes alongside his colleagues. By night, he leads a secret second life as a serial killer. Unlike the criminals he hunts, Dexter operates by a strict moral code that channels his violent compulsions toward people who have escaped justice. As he carefully balances his double life, Dexter must avoid suspicion from law enforcement, all while maintaining a facade of normalcy.

Killing Eve

For a slick, darkly funny riff on the traditional mystery series, Killing Eve stars Sandra Oh as Eve Polastri, an MI5 desk analyst who becomes obsessed with tracking down a highly skilled international assassin. When a string of high-profile political murders points to a single killer, Eve pushes far beyond the tasks of her job, following her instincts even as she clashes with her superiors. Her investigation leads her closer to Villanelle (an absolutely unhinged Jodie Comer), a brilliant, unpredictable assassin who is both dangerously efficient and increasingly bored by her work. As Eve and Villanelle become aware of each other, the series turns into a game as both women try to outsmart and track the other down.

Yellowjackets

In 1996, a New Jersey high school girls’ soccer team survived a plane crash in the remote wilderness. As the already terrible situation grows more desperate, the survivors do what it takes to stay alive. As time passes, the group forms factions and makes choices that will define the rest of their lives.

In the present timeline, the remaining survivors are adults trying to maintain normal lives while keeping what happened a secret. As Yellowjackets switches between past and present, we start to learn what happened in the wilderness and what the survivors are still willing to do to keep the truth buried.

Twin Peaks

Consider this our bonus pick, because we can’t not include it, even if it pops up in a few of our other guides. This David Lynch classic kicks off when the body of Laura Palmer is found wrapped in plastic on the shore outside the small town of Twin Peaks. Laura seemed like the perfect teenager. She’s beautiful, smart, popular, a volunteer, and the homecoming queen, but it doesn’t take long for it to become clear that there was a lot more going on.

As the investigation unfolds, FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) arrives to help the local police, and what starts as a straightforward murder case quickly turns into something much stranger. As in much, much stranger. (This is the world of David Lynch, folks.) The deeper Cooper digs to find Laura’s killer, the more this seemingly quiet Northwestern town begins to unravel.

How we picked the best mystery series on Paramount Plus

Though Paramount Plus has a lot to choose from, we narrowed our list to mystery series spanning a range of subgenres and fan favorites. There are plenty of classic whodunnit storylines here to keep us mystery fans hooked, but we went for a variation that keeps things from getting too repetitive.

Keanu Reeves & Sandra Bullock’s Hit Action Movie Sets Hulu Streaming Date

The Hulu streaming date for an iconic action thriller starring Keanu Reeves has been set for next month. Also starring Sandra Bullock, the film not only achieved massive box office success but also received overwhelming critical acclaim and even won two Oscars.

Speed begins streaming on Hulu in March

The 1994 action-adventure movie Speed will start streaming on Hulu on Sunday, March 1, 2026 (via Hulu).

Making his feature directorial debut, Jan de Bont helmed the film with a script from Graham Yost. The film features Keanu Reeves as Jack Traven, Sandra Bullock as Annie Porter, Dennis Hopper as Howard Payne, Jeff Daniels as Harry Temple, and Joe Morton as Herb “Mac” McMahon, among others.

The film’s story begins with Jack and his partner, Harry, defusing a bomb in an elevator planted by Howard Payne. After they narrowly prevented major casualties, Payne fakes his death and seeks revenge, especially on Jack. He later plants a bomb on a city bus that will detonate when it goes below 50 mph, which prompts Jack to board the bus to help the passengers. But after a series of unfortunate events, the driver gets shot, and Annie is forced to drive the bus through LA traffic.

Upon its theatrical release, both critics and audiences took a liking to the film. It currently boasts an impressive 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Furthermore, the positive reviews translated into box office success, helping Speed earn more than $121 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo). The following year, it won Oscars for Best Sound and Best Effects, Sound Effects Editing.

In a 2014 interview, Yost revealed that the Point Break star was not the first choice to portray Jack. He said that he had considered Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Wesley Snipes, and Woody Harrelson. When “someone’s kid at the studio” suggested Reeves’s name, they considered him and later met him.

Furthermore, while writing the script, Yost wanted Annie to be more of a comic relief. As a result, he considered Ellen DeGeneres to portray the part at one point. But as the script and character evolved, the role ultimately went to Bullock.

Netflix has shared the full trailer for the upcoming debut of Beauty in Black Season 2 Part 2, which will consist of eight new episodes. Tyler Perry‘s popular high-stakes family drama is scheduled to resume its latest installment on March 19, 2026.

“The ruthless, backstabbing family behind a beauty brand — and an underground trafficking ring — will face a reckoning. Kimmie, the once-unassuming sex worker in their employ, becomes an unstoppable force and is now the one calling the shots after inheriting sole ownership of the family business,” reads the official logline for Season 2.

Check out the Beauty in Black Season 2 Part 2 trailer below (watch more trailers):

What happens in the Beauty in Black Season 2 Part 2 trailer?

The video teases what to expect for the Bellarie family as they deal with the consequences of their web of sex, violence, and power. The trailer continues to highlight the rivalry between Crystle Stewart’s Mallory and Taylor Polidore Williams’s Kimmie, with Mallory set to show a different side of herself. According to Stewart, fans will also get to see a shift in the dynamic between Mallory and Kimmie.

“Mallory and Kimmie will always be two powerful forces in the same room,” Stewart said (via Tudum). “But in Part 2, survival starts to matter more than rivalry. There’s a shift where they begin to recognize that their greatest threat might not be each other. That doesn’t mean trust comes easily, but there is a mutual understanding that changes the game. It’s less about who wears the crown and more about who makes it outstanding.”

The ensemble cast includes Amber Reign Smith, Xavier Smalls, Ricco Ross, Julian Horton, Steven G. Norfleet, Richard Lawson, Terrell Carter, Bryan Tanaka, Charles Malik Whitfield, and Debbi Morgan. Season 2 also features guest stars Bailey Tippen, Randall J. Bacon, Greg Clarkson, Ace Small, George Middlebrook, Kajanee Smith, Philemon Chambers, Aria Celeste Castillo, Rodrigo Aburto, Jasmine Burke, and Phylicía Lloyd.

Beauty in Black is written, directed, and executive produced by Perry. The series is also produced by Angi Bones and Tony Strickland for Tyler Perry Studios. Wow Jones & Jimijame$ are providing the music for the new season.

Steven Soderbergh Opens Up About Frustrating Kylo Ren Star Wars Movie Cancellation

Academy Award-winning director Steven Soderbergh has opened up about his frustrations over Disney scrapping his Star Wars: The Hunt for Ben Solo movie. This comes nearly four months after Adam Driver surprised Star Wars fans when he revealed that he was actually meant to star in a solo Kylo Ren movie, which was unexpectedly turned down by the Disney bosses.

What did Steven Soderbergh say about The Hunt for Ben Solo?

During a recent interview with BKMAG, Soderbergh admitted that he shares former Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy’s disappointment over the canceled Ben Solo/Kylo Ren movie. He revealed that he, Driver, and writer Rebecca Blunt had dedicated more than two years of free work on the project’s development.

“It was no surprise that she [Kennedy] was frustrated. We were all frustrated. You know, that was two and a half years of free work for me and Adam and Rebecca Blunt,” he shared. “When Adam and I discussed him talking about it publicly, I said, ‘Look, do not editorialize or speculate about the why. Just say what happened, because all we know is what happened.’ The stated reason was ‘We don’t think Ben Solo could be alive.’ And that was all we were told. And so there’s nothing to do about it, you know, except move on.”

The Ocean’s Eleven director is frustrated that fans won’t be able to see their vision for the movie, especially when they didn’t have the chance to defend the project from its cancellation.

Soderbergh added, “And as I posted, I’d kind of made the movie in my head, and just felt bad that nobody else was going to get to see it. I thought the conversation was strictly going to be a practical one—where they go, what is this going to cost? And I had a really good answer for that. But it never even got to that point. It’s insane. We’re all very disappointed.”

Despite the character’s immense popularity among the fandom, Disney executives Bob Iger and Alan Bergman surprisingly turned down the project. Even though Lucasfilm loved their idea, Iger and Bergman just couldn’t understand why his character would still be alive when he had already sacrificed his life at the end of The Rise of Skywalker movie. Since the canceled movie was revealed, fans have been rallying online to convince the studio that they made a mistake by not going forward with the project.

Driver was last seen in Star Wars at the end of 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, which was directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams. The ensemble cast also featured Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Naomi Ackie, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran, Jodie Comer, and more. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the movie still earned a worldwide gross of over $1 billion at the box office.

Martin Scorsese Joins Cast of a Star Wars Movie, Role Revealed

Martin Scorsese Joins Cast of a Star Wars Movie, Role Revealed

Martin Scorsese has joined the cast of a Star Wars movie.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is a new Star Wars movie that is set to be released in United States theaters this May. Coming from Lucasfilm and director Jon Favreau, the movie serves as a continuation of Disney+’s popular The Mandalorian TV show.

Pedro Pascal is reprising his role as Din Djarin in The Mandalorian and Grogu, while it’s also known that Sigourney Weaver is playing a character named Ward and that Jeremy Allen White is voicing Rotta the Hutt, who is the son of Jabba the Hutt.

Who is Martin Scorsese playing in Star Wars’ The Mandalorian and Grogu?

Per Polygon, a new trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu has confirmed that Scorsese is voicing an “Ardennian shopkeep” who has “info on the Hutts.”

The office Star Wars Twitter account confirmed Scorsese’s casting in a short video with the caption, “absolute cinema.”

It’s worth noting that Scorsese and Favreau previously worked together on 2013’s The Wolf of Wall Street, the Oscar-nominated movie directed by Scorsese that stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort and Favreau as Manny Riskin. Scorsese’s casting in the new Star Wars movie comes as a bit of a surprise, as he has notoriously discussed and written about Marvel and other blockbuster movies’ influence — or, perhaps, lack of influence — on cinema.

Scorsese, of course, has also directed movies such as 1973’s Mean Streets, 1976’s Taxi Driver, 1980’s Raging Bull, 1982’s The King of Comedy, 1988’s The Last Temptation of Christ, 1990’s Goodfellas, 1995’s Casino, 2004’s The Aviator, 2019’s The Irishman, 2023’s Killers of the Flower Moon, and more.

The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released in United States theaters on May 22, 2026, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. All three seasons of The Mandalorian, meanwhile, are available to stream on Disney+.

Best Comedy Movies on Pluto TV (February 2026)

Leslie Nielsen and Robert Hays in Airplane!

Originally founded in 2013, Pluto TV is one of the most unique streaming services in the world. The ad-sponsored network is notable for an eclectic selection of digital channels and on-demand films. Among the thousands of films available are some of the greatest comedy movies in cinematic history.

What are the best Comedy Movies on Pluto TV?

With over 170 content partners besides Paramount and their subsidiaries, Pluto TV has a lot to offer. This, coupled with the wide variety of comedies available, makes composing a “top 5” list a daunting prospect. To that end, the following list of films in chronological order attempts to offer a wide selection of classic comedies from various acclaimed filmmakers.

The Pink Panther (1963)

The Pink Panther is the most valuable and infamous gem in the world. Beyond being valuable as the world’s largest cut diamond, it also boasts a rare pink tint and a flaw resembling a large cat. It is infamous, however, for being spirited out of the country of Lugash by the exiled Princess Dala following a military coup.

This has resulted in many people on both sides of the law seeking to claim the legendary gemstone. These include Police Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Peter Sellers) and Sir Charles Lytton (David Niven). Sir Charles is secretly a legendary jewel thief called ‘The Phantom.’ He is also, not so secretly, having an affair with his fence, who is Clouseau’s wife.

The quest for the gem delivers them all to an exclusive Italian ski resort, where Princess Dala is wintering. Further complicating matters is the arrival of Sir Charles’ playboy nephew, George, who decides to make Mrs. Clouseau his latest conquest. Hilarity ensues.

Blake Edwards had a successful career as a director and screenwriter before The Pink Panther. However, the heist farce made his reputation as a master of screwball comedy. It also established what became Peter Sellers’ most famous comedic character. Edwards and Sellers would collaborate on two more Pink Panther films, both of which can also be seen on Pluto TV.

Airplane! (1980)

Disaster strikes on a commercial airline flight from Los Angeles to Chicago, when food poisoning lays the crew low. Their only hope lies in Ted Striker; a traumatized former fighter pilot who developed a drinking problem and a fear of flying. Adding to Ted’s anxiety is that he only got on the plane to try and win back the flight attendant who just dumped him. What should be tense becomes hilarious, however, as everything that can go wrong does.

Airplane! was originally conceived as a remake of the 1957 disaster movie Zero Hour! While borrowing heavily from the script, it was reconfigured into a more direct parody of the Airport series and other popular disaster movies of the 1970s. However, despite several legal challenges, and the inexperience of directors David Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and Jerry Zucker, the movie was a smash hit. More, it became one of the most influential comedies of all time.

Apart from a sequel, Airplane! also inspired a wave of other spoof comedy movies. It made ZAZ (as Zucker, Abrahams, and Zucker became known collectively) into Hollywood power players. It also revived the careers of several of the actors, who were previously known for their dramatic work. This was particularly true of Leslie Nielsen, who went on to star in ZAZ’s Naked Gun police parodies. (These are also, it should be noted, available on Pluto TV.)

Spaceballs (1987)

In a very distant galaxy, the planet Spaceball has ruined their environment and destroyed their atmosphere. Their leader, President Skroob, conspires to steal the air of the neighboring planet Druidia. To that end, he sends the Downside Schwartz Master Dark Helmet to kidnap Princess Vespa on her wedding day and ransom her for the air they need. However, Vespa flees the wedding with her droid maid, Dot Matrix, before that can happen.

Enter Lone Starr and his buddy Barf the Mog. (“I’m a mog: half man, half dog. I’m my own best friend.”) They are hired by the King of Druidia to rescue the runaway bride and bring her safely home. Naturally their are complications, even before Vespa and Lone Starr start to fall for each other. Yet with the Power of the Schwartz, True Love (or something like it) may win out in the end.

Filmmaker Mel Brooks made some of the greatest comedies of all time. While Spaceballs is generally agreed to be one of his lesser works, it is probably the one with which most modern audiences are familiar. This is because Spaceballs largely parodies the visuals, mythology and characters of Star Wars. However, it also gets in digs at other popular sci-fi franchises. This has made it popular with genre enthusiasts, and inspired a sequel that will release in 2027.

Clueless (1995)

Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone) thinks she has it all; looks, riches, and social savvy. Her GPA tells a different story, but Cher is convinced she can talk her way into better grades. She proves successful, after facilitating a romance between the implacable Mr. Hall and another teacher. This victory pushes Cher to consider the value of good works, as she starts trying to play matchmaker to her fellow students.

Unfortunately, Cher’s newfound efforts to share the love fall flat with transfer student Tai Frasier. She keeps hanging out with a clumsy skater, rather than the prime hotties Cher picks out for her. To make matters worse, Cher’s own efforts at finding the perfect guy keep failing.

Inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma, Clueless neatly modernized the classic tale of a romance-minded rich girl with few real problems. Indeed, it became a snapshot of 1990s teen culture and remains a cult classic three decades later. It also made stars out of Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd, who plays Cher’s down-to-earth stepbrother, Josh.

Best in Show (2000)

The annual Mayflower Kennel Club Dog Show is the most prestigious event of its kind in Philadelphia. For the 125th anniversary, a documentary crew follow five of the contenders and their owners, trainers, and handlers. What their cameras catch suggest some of the humans need to be on a short leash more than their pets.

Consider Meg and Hamilton Swan, who fear they traumatized their dog, Beatrice, after it saw them trying maneuvers from the Kama Sutra. Then there is Harlan Pepper, a hound breeder and amateur ventriloquist. The elderly Leslie Ward Cabot seems barely conscious much less cognizant that his trophy wife and dog trainer are having an affair.

Compared to them Gerry and Cookie Fleck seem well-adjusted, despite Gerry literally being born with two left feet. They are also forced to sleep in a hotel storage room after a snafu with their credit card. Still, with a little luck, their terrier might just be declared Best in Show.

Writer/Director Christopher Guest has made a number of films with the same group of talented comedy actors. Many of these are available on Pluto TV and picking a favorite may be as difficult as judging a dog show. However, Best in Show is notable for having been embraced by the community it lampoons. Indeed, the 2026 Westminster Dog Show honored the late Catherine O’Hara for her role as Cookie Fleck. That is a unique and touching legacy and a testimony to the film’s reputation and O’Hara’s performance.

How we picked the best comedy movies on Pluto TV in 2026

Legacy and epitome were the main criteria in composing this list of the best comedy movies on Pluto TV. The movies that were chosen all either inspired a franchise or are considered indicative of their director’s style. An effort was also made to try and chose a variety of comedy types, from spoofs to farce to coming-of-age.

It’s Always Sunny Season 18 Gets Major Release Date & Episode Count Update

It's Always Sunny Season 18 Gets Major Release Date & Episode Count Update
Photo Credit: Michael Buckner | Getty Images

Rob McElhenney weighed in on two topics that have followed It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia as it heads toward its eighteenth season. The co-creator and actor offered new clarity about when the series will return and how many installments fans should expect. His comments arrive as production activity begins to ramp up on the long running comedy.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia gets major updates

Production on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 18 is underway, according to creator and performer Rob McElhenney. On February 11, he announced that cameras were rolling and later shared a photo of himself with Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton wearing tuxedos. The image paralleled the trio’s wardrobe from the show’s 2005 beginning.

A viewer asked whether the forthcoming season would contain more than eight episodes. Mac answered, “yep.” The same commenter wrote, “It’s always over so fast & I’m sad.”

Beginning with season 15 in December 2021, each installment of the FX series has run for eight episodes. Earlier years were longer, with seasons 8 through 14 at 10 apiece and seasons 2 through 7 spanning between 10 and 15. Season 1 totaled seven.

The actor did not reveal a precise number beyond confirming an increase. FX has not addressed the cause of the shorter orders introduced in recent years. A renewal announced in 2020 covered the show through season 18.

FX has not publicized a launch date. The network aired the two most recent seasons in summer 2023 and summer 2025. Set photos confirm Mac, Day, and Howerton will return, and Kaitlyn Olson and Danny DeVito are set to appear.

The finale showed Frank planning to marry Sam, played by Carol Kane, after they appeared on The Golden Bachelor. Producers have not detailed whether Kane will return. The team continues filming.

Mac’s caption read, “Great news, the tux still fits. Season 1 —> Season 18.” Among the responses were “THE BEARD????????? MAC WAS RIGHT GOD MIGHT BE REAL,” and “Pleeeeeeease say we’re getting more than 8 episodes this time!”

Former US Army Green Beret John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) was imprisoned after having a violent breakdown. Three years later, Rambo is approached in prison by his former commanding officer, Colonel Sam Trautman. The Colonel explains that the US Army is facing pressure to investigate reports of American prisoners of war still being held in Vietnam.

To that end, an infiltration mission has been approved to confirm or refute these reports. Colonel Trautman says they could think of no better operative for this mission than Rambo, due to his own POW experiences. A full pardon is ready if he agrees to take the mission.

Unfortunately, time has not healed Rambo’s wounds, nor stemmed his tendency to ignore orders he doesn’t like. When Rambo has the opportunity to rescue a POW, he takes it, despite his orders to take only pictures of the POWs. Abandoned his handlers, Rambo is left to once again fight a one-man-war to free his fellow soldiers.

Rambo: First Blood Part II was a controversial movie for several reasons. Chief among them was that the movie scaled back the political themes of the original First Blood in favor of more fight scenes and explosions. This mattered little to action fans, however, who approved of the film’s many intense sequences These were scripted separately by James Cameron and Sylvester Stallone, with Cameron claiming he wrote most of the action and Stallone added in the political scenes discussing the plight of American soldiers after the Vietnam War.

The Untouchables (1987)

In 1930’s Chicago, gangster Al Capone (Robert DeNiro) ruled the city with an iron first. Capone ran the illegal liquor trade into the city during Prohibition and effectively owned the police department and many politicians. With the local authorities either unwilling or unable to fight Capone, Bureau of Prohibition Agent Elliot Ness (Kevin Costner) is tasked with bringing down the infamous kingpin.

To that end, Ness assembles a team to harass Capone and his operations. Veteran Chicago cop James Malone (Sean Connery). Idealistic rookie cop George Stone (Andy Garcia). Accountant Oscar Wallace (Charles Martin Smith), who begins to organize an effort to bring down Capone for tax evasion. Together, they will be remembered as legends and called The Untouchables.

While taking considerable liberties with the real history, The Untouchables was a well-received action movie. Sean Connery earned the Oscar and Golden Globe awards for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as James Malone. The movie also won a Grammy for Best Original Score.

However, the movie is most often remembered today for its intricate action sequences. Chief among these is the train station sequence, in which Ness and his men attempt to capture Capone’s accountant. This is made more difficult by the sudden appearance of a young mother with a baby carriage in the middle of the operation.

Total Recall (1990)

Construction worker Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger) has a seemingly idyllic life. He has a good job and a gorgeous wife. He also has recurring dreams of a strange woman and living on Mars. This leads him to seek out Rekall; a company that implants realistic false memories.

However, Quaid’s efforts to give himself the memories of a Martian spy seem to trigger something before the implant takes hold. Soon, he’s displaying combat skills he shouldn’t have and many people, including his wife, are trying to kill him. The truth of who he is will take him to Mars and the middle of a revolution against Mars’ dictator, Vilos Cohaagen.

Based on the Philip K. Dick story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale,” Total Recall is widely considered to be one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s best action movies. It is also considered one of the best cinematic adaptations of Dick’s writing. The movie is praised for its examination of the problems with colonialism and authoritarianism. It is also praised for its ambiguous ending, which leaves it unclear if Quaid’s experiences are real or a delusion. Beyond that, the production team did a fantastic job of bringing Mars to life and making it seem like a real world.

Hero (2002)

It is the time of Chinese history known as the Waring States period. The King of Qin sits upon a troubled throne, with multiple assassins trying to end his life and his efforts to unite China under one banner. Under tightened security, which forbids anyone coming within 100 paces of him, the King of Quin agrees to meet with a perfect called Nameless (Jet Li.)

Nameless spins an unlikely tale, in which he confronted the three assassins who tried and failed to slay the King; Broken Sword, Flying Snow, and Long Sky. The King counters with his own tale, based on rumors of a warrior that can kill a man at ten paces or strike with such precision that he can leave someone alive despite an apparently lethal blow. The truth of things may be more complicated.

Originally released in China as Yīngxióng, the movie called Hero in the United States faced a difficult time finding worldwide acclaim. It took the combined efforts of Quentin Tarantino, Disney executives, and the Government of China to secure a release of the film with English subtitles. Tarantino also lent his name to the film’s marketing.

Despite failing to win the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, Hero still holds an important position in film history. It was the first Chinese film to ever top the American box office and stayed there for two weeks. It also won multiple production awards at the Hong Kong Film Awards, including Best Art Direction, Best Action Choreography, and Best Costume/Make Up Design.

Crank (2006)

Chev Chelios (Jason Statham) is a hitman for crime boss Don “Carlito” Carlos. He’s been a loyal soldier, but an ambitious hood named Ricky Verona wants his job. To that end, Verona strikes a bargain with Carlito, after Chelios is sent out to kill rival gang leader Don Kim. If he can kill Chelios and convince the Triads he was a lone gunman, Verona will replace Chelios.

To that end, Verona injects Chelios with a synthetic drug while he is asleep. Known as the Beijing Cocktail, the drug inhibits the body’s ability to generate adrenaline. This eventually causes the heart to stop completely, mimicking the effects of a heart attack.

This leaves Chelios taking greater and greater risks to keep his blood pumping as he hunts for an antidote. Failing that, he needs to keep going long enough to clear his name and get revenge. He also needs to make peace with his long-suffering girlfriend.

Jason Statham was an established action hero long before Crank. However, many consider it to be the best of the many movies he starred in. Beyond Statham’s performance, the movie was also praised for its practical effects and stunt work. Indeed, the marketing made great play of how Crank did not use any CGI and Statham did his own fighting and driving stunts.

Best Mystery Series on Pluto TV (February 2026)

Best Mystery Series on Pluto TV

If you’re a fan of mystery television, you can take the guesswork out of whether or not a subscription fee is worth it and stick to free TV. While the ads can be a slog to get through, we’re completely content as long as the platform has good options. Here are the best mystery series on Pluto TV.

What are the best mystery series on Pluto TV?

For our list, we opted for series that give us a variety of procedural mysteries, supernatural Lynchian fever-dream stories, and bleak serial killer thrillers, all of which put solving a crime at the center of the plot. These are just a few, but you can easily access plenty of other long-running hits, like CSI (Las Vegas, Miami, and New York — you’ll be busy for a while!), Murdoch Mysteries, or procedurals like Blue Bloods and Law & Order.

Twin Peaks (1990)

This strange mystery series is about as Lynchian as you can get while still being mainstream enough to end up on TV. It wasn’t easy to convince a network to put this vastly different kind of drama on air, but the response was well worth the risk. Even today, the series is a classic. If you haven’t seen Twin Peaks, we suggest you give it a watch.

Twin Peaks starts when the body of Laura Palmer is found. She’s the quintessential high school girl — beautiful, successful, well-liked, a volunteer in her community, the homecoming queen. There is a lot more to Laura than meets the eye. Soon, the investigation cracks open the seedy underbelly of this idyllic northwestern town. When FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) shows up to lead the investigation, the case turns into something far more unsettling (and confusing) than a standard murder mystery.

The Fall (2013)

One of the best thrillers on Pluto TV, as well as a mystery series, The Fall pits two hunters against one another. The first hunter is a seemingly normal family man (Jamie Dornan), a father and husband who is also a serial killer on the loose in Belfast. The second is the exceptionally sharp, driven investigative detective Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson), who is pulled from the London Metropolitan Police and sets out to catch him. While the writing on this show is already great, the phenomenal performances elevate it to a higher tier. There are three seasons, which are all equally strong.

Broadchurch (2013)

At a recent dinner, this writer was asked whether they’d seen Broadchurch. If I could capture the reaction to admitting I hadn’t — anyway, to spare any mystery fans from that particular experience, you can watch Broadchurch on Pluto TV. This UK mystery series centers on the investigation into the death of an 11-year-old boy in a small coastal town. The town, once a picturesque coastal tourist town, is now hit by a media frenzy surrounding the tragedy. Detectives Alec Hardy (David Tennant) and Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) — absolutely the dream team in terms of casting— are assigned to the case. As the investigation unfolds, it becomes clear that nearly everyone in Broadchurch has some connection to the victim, turning friends, neighbors, and even family members into potential suspects.

Criminal Minds (2005)

One of those long-running police procedurals (Criminal Minds is currently in production for its 19th season), this series still holds up as an easy watch. That’s especially the case if you’re the type of viewer who can’t resist a deep dive into the psychology of criminals. The showcenters on the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, a team of profilers tasked with tracking down some of the most complex and disturbing criminals imaginable. Rather than focusing purely on physical evidence, the BAU works by getting inside the minds of the perpetrators, piecing together patterns of behavior, trauma, motive, and method to predict what they’ll do next.

Like other shows of this subgenre, Criminal Minds is designed as a “case of the week” setup. Though this sort of thing can get repetitive (we won’t say the total plot really builds that much), the writers do a great job of making the investigations feel like a puzzle being assembled in real time.

Luther (2010)

We’ll watch Idris Elba in pretty much anything, but Luther is a series that flies under the radar more than it should, just by Elba’s performance alone. The show follows DCI John Luther (Idris Elba), a brilliant London detective known for his intense dedication to solving violent crimes. He’s also got a reputation for pushing against departmental rules in pursuit of the criminals responsible for a variety of cases, from missing persons to organized crime to heinous murders. As Luther continues taking on increasingly dangerous cases, the series tracks the personal and professional consequences of his methods

How we picked the best mystery series on Pluto TV

Though Pluto TV may not have made a name for itself as the platform with the most critically acclaimed series, we had no trouble finding shows worth watching. We focused on mystery series with strong audience feedback, lasting impact, or a notable legacy in the genre. We also included shows that tend to get the biggest reactions from other mystery fans when you admit you haven’t seen them.

Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie the Interview: How 2026’s Funniest Film Was Made

Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie the Interview How 2026's Funniest Movie Was Made

ComingSoon Editor-in-Chief Tyler Treese spoke with Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie’s Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol. The comedy duo discussed the new comedy movie’s wild Back to the Future parody, its challenging shooting, and gave a great update for Season 3 of the show. It’s out today in theaters nationwide.

“When their plan to book a show at the Rivoli goes horribly wrong, Matt and Jay accidentally travel back to the year 2008. Blah blah blah blah blah,” reads the official synopsis.

Tyler Treese: Matt, obviously, you guys have a fondness for Back to the Future. I love that film too. You get to do your Doc Brown speech, which is very fun in the film. The time machine looks just like it. It’s incredible. What inspired you to do an entire movie-length riff on Back to the Future when you don’t have a crazy budget? This film is so ambitious and manages to pull it off.

Matt Johnson: The thing that landed on Back to the Future was the fact that we had the footage of us when we were kids, and as soon as we decided, oh, we are going to use this footage from 20 years ago, we needed a mechanism to get us there and it wasn’t always gonna be so Back to the Future Centric. If you’ve seen an episode of our show, like oftentimes we’ll bring in a number of different thematically adjacent properties and do them all at the same time. Like our Daredevil episode is also a Star Wars episode is also a King of Fighters episode. And so it’s also a Mortal Kombat episode. So, here we were like, okay, we’re gonna do a time travel movie.

At first, it was gonna be Back to the Future, but it was also gonna be Primer. It was also gonna be Live, Die, Repeat. We were gonna take elements from all of these different movies. But as we started writing it, we realized that the nature of the story itself was demanding that Back to the Future kind of be the centerpiece of it.

So we kind of waltzed into it being a true Back to the Future parody with the intention of having it be somewhat more vague and paying reference to a number of different time-travel films.

Jay, the Rivoli still being the goal is so funny to me. How important was it that these characters, at least Matt’s character, haven’t really grown in aspiration or goals? So we can tell the story that we see in the film.

Jay McCarrol: Well, not growing is a big theme of the movie and always an ongoing theme in the Nirvanna, The Band universe in our relationship, these guys both are dealing with different stages and wrestling different parts of arrested development and their sort of little bubble that they live in. So keeping the sort of immature and small-minded naivete of these guys alive really lent itself to us facing our younger selves. So we could really strongly address some of the themes that we’ve always had these characters go through.

And that’s why it’s fun for the people who have seen our show to like, watch these guys get the ultimate test of what has always been testing their friendship about when they grow. How much is Jay following Matt? How much is Jay facing his own? Sort of where am I going in this life? Do I like this Sian journey I’m on to get this show, or never get it at the Rivoli? And so yeah, it was important to us to, well, not that’s important to us, it just fell into place. We just really enjoyed doing it. And it was a gift that enough time has gone by that the time travel element just felt correct.

Matt, there’s a lot of candidly shot footage in the film, and that’s not new for you guys, but were there any specific challenges of shooting in Toronto? Especially because you’re more well-known now, and it’s just at a greater scale. Were there any unexpected challenges doing that?

Johnson: I’ll say to your second point of us being possibly well known, no, I don’t remember a single time when somebody noticed us from the TV show and then that causing us a problem. But it’s because specifically we shot in the most tourist-y areas in the city. We shot at the base of the CN Tower, at the skydome on Queen Street, on weekends. Like we were shooting in places where it’s mostly tourists or people who are coming from out of town. And that was a bit by design.

But in terms of how challenging that was, I mean some of that is the most difficult shooting I’ll probably ever do in my life. Like, there were things we were trying to make happen, like when we’re walking with that wheelbarrow with the cable going up to the CN Tower, like getting some of those shots and doing it the way that we did it was nearly impossible.

It’s so hard because you’re trying to get people to not laugh immediately at what they’re seeing and sort of take you seriously, but also not get so involved that they stop what you’re doing. And so we shot that sequence in particular, I think, over the course of like seven days, broken up. Same with all the stuff outside the CN Tower. We get to keep going back day after day after day to get like a few seconds at a time. But in the end, of course, it seems like it’s all just happens effortlessly. But that was the most challenging footage that we needed to shoot outdoors.

There are so many small moments in the film that I’m just thinking of. It’s gonna make me laugh. There’s a running scene, and then you just run into a raccoon. That’s such a small scene, but it made me laugh for 20 seconds.

Johnson: That raccoon seemed like it was on its own little mission that day. It was like Matt the raccoon and Matt the man met, and you could see we both had the same body language where our shoulders kind of went up, and we sort of checked each other out, and then we were like, “Okay.” Then he went on with his business, and I went on with my business.

McCarrol: It’s one of the benefits of rolling around with a very small crew with cameras ready to go, and you see a raccoon on the sidewalk, and it’s just action. There’s no script. We’re not gonna really plan anything. But so many moments like that happen and there’s tons of ’em that you would never know were just sort of these impromptu [opportune] times that we just press record on.

Jay, I wanted to ask, a lot of the interactions in this film were just mind-boggling to an American like myself, like getting through the security at the CN Tower, like the pliers and the parachute. The very nice libertarian guy was trying to save your lives when you were buying the pliers. How key is that sort of Canadian niceness to where you guys can be acting strange, and they kind of see the best in people, rather than being on high alert?

Jay McCarrol: You’re answering it, you said it very well there. And be that as it may, we were not expecting to walk through security at the CN Tower the way we did. But you know, I think what helps is that we’re trying to ride the line when we do involve real people, without hitting them with absolute ridiculousness, and we try to meet their eyes with a certain amount of sincerity.

So, at worst, they think that we’re just being incredibly naive, and if we’re taking and exploiting anything, it’s their generosity. You’re gonna find a lot of generosity on the streets in Canada. So that’s what makes it so fun to us, because you see these vulnerable moments that seem very private, but it’s just exposing how willing people are to just work with us. “What are these, just some pliers you want to take in? Yeah, that should be okay.” It’s like, “What are you guys trying to do what on the CN Tower? I really need to advise against this guys, let me help you out here.” That humanity to us is very, very funny.

Matt, when the time travel happens, and you get back to 2008, we see Bill Cosby, Subway Jared, P. Diddy, and the movie Hancock. We see all the real horrors of 2008 very quickly. How was it deciding what 2008 pop culture to lampoon?

Matt Johnson: We tried to just do everything. I don’t think we really made any choices. It was sort of the things that came to mind. Then the editors, Kurt and Bobby adding things as they went. Subway Jared was something that we weren’t even talking about, and then they found a moment to put in the edit. Because when we’re shooting, we never know what’s gonna make it or not, ’cause we shoot so much. We basically threw everything at the wall, and it was gratifying to see that they were able to use as much as they did.

Jay, hate to be the person asking immediately for more when we just got the movie, but are there still hopes for season three to be released? I know you guys had filmed some of that already.

McCarrol: Good news is Neon has got our TV show now, and we are gonna be releasing physical copies of seasons one and two. I think we can be very optimistic about season three being around the corner. So yes, we’re very hopeful, and we’re feeling good about it, and we have so much season three in the can. And even from the first part of our road trip effort of this movie, this has all been sequenced into season three episode ideas. There are episode ideas that are direct continuations from the time-travel movie. So we’re ready to go.

Thanks to Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol for taking the time to talk about Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie.
