Jake Gyllenhaal and Ian Holmes are returning to TV screens in their fan-favorite disaster movie. The duo’s smash-hit, critically and commercially successful The Day After Tomorrow is finally streaming on Netflix today.
Directed by Roland Emmerich, the sci-fi disaster is about a global superstorm that plunges the world into a new Ice Age. It is based on the 1999 book The Coming Global Superstorm by Art Bell and Whitley Strieber.
The Day After Tomorrow dramatically depicts the catastrophic climatic effects of the North Atlantic Ocean circulation. A series of extreme weather events accelerates climate change and leads to a new ice age. The film was a box office blockbuster, making around $552.6 million on a $125 million budget (via Box Office Mojo).
What makes The Day After Tomorrow one of Hollywood’s most memorable disaster movies?
Despite its 2004 release, The Day After Tomorrow remains one of Hollywood’s most memorable disaster movies for many reasons. These include its iconic visuals, terrifying sci-fi concepts, and its rescue journey.
The movie delivered a massive, high-budget spectacle, featuring scenes including a colossal tidal wave that swamps Manhattan and submerges the Statue of Liberty, multiple simultaneous tornadoes shredding Los Angeles, and even massive hailstones hitting Tokyo. It also popularized the terrifying sci-fi trope of super-cooled air descending from the eye of giant storms, which instantly flash-freezes everyone and everything in its path.
Amid the global cataclysm, the story centers on an intimate survival and rescue mission. Paleoclimatologist Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid) treks on foot from Philadelphia through a frozen wasteland to save his son, Sam (Gyllenhaal), trapped inside the New York Public Library.
Meanwhile, Holm stars as Terry Rapson, a Scottish oceanographer at Scotland’s Hedland Centre who befriends Jack over their shared concerns about climate change, triggering a new ice age by disrupting the North Atlantic Current.
The Day After Tomorrow’s cast was as star-studded as its storyline. It included Sela Ward, Emmy Rossum, Arjay Smith, Austin Nichols, Dash Mihok, Jay O. Sanders, Kenneth Welsh, Perry King, Nestor Serrano, Tamlyn Tomita, and Glenn Plummer alongside Quaid, Holm, and Gyllenhaal.
You can now stream The Day After Tomorrow on Netflix.

The Fast & Furious franchise is making a five-film stop on Peacock. The streaming service has added five entries from the action series on November 1.
The arrivals come as the franchise prepares for another big-screen chapter. Fast Forever, the next installment, is scheduled to reach theaters on March 17, 2028. Vin Diesel will return as Dominic Toretto for the upcoming movie. The new streaming lineup lets viewers revisit several earlier chapters of the saga.
Which Fast & Furious movies are streaming on Peacock?
Peacock’s November schedule confirms five Fast & Furious movies. They span the original film and four sequels released between 2003 and 2011. Each movie follows a different stage in the lives of its racers, criminals, and undercover officers.
The first movie, The Fast and the Furious, introduces undercover police officer Brian O’Conner, played by Paul Walker. He enters Dominic Toretto’s street-racing circle while investigating a series of truck hijackings. However, his growing friendship with Dom makes the assignment harder.

In 2 Fast 2 Furious, Brian moves to Miami after leaving the Los Angeles Police Department. He teams up with childhood friend Roman Pearce, played by Tyrese Gibson. Together, they work with U.S. Customs to bring down drug lord Carter Verone.
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift follows Sean Boswell, a teenager sent to live in Tokyo. He gets involved in the city’s underground drifting scene and faces its leading racer. The movie also introduces Han, played by Sung Kang, and features a brief appearance by Diesel.
In Fast & Furious, Diesel and Walker reunite as Dom and Brian in the fourth installment. They reunite after a personal tragedy brings them back together. Their search for answers leads them into a dangerous drug operation.
Fast Five sees Dom and Brian assemble their crew for a major heist in Rio de Janeiro. Their target is a powerful businessman with millions of dollars. Federal agent Luke Hobbs, played by Dwayne Johnson, pursues them as they plan the robbery.
The five additions cover the franchise’s early years and introduce key characters who shape its later stories. Fast Forever is scheduled to continue the saga in 2028.

The Real Housewives of Orange County S20 – Reunion Part 1, Extended & Uncensored
Sylvester Stallone built one of the most recognizable action franchises in Hollywood with a character who became synonymous with survival, combat, and relentless determination as John Rambo. However, the series didn’t begin with the explosive spectacle audiences would come to expect.
Its first installment took a more grounded approach, introducing a troubled veteran whose conflict with a small-town police department set the story in motion. That film, First Blood (1982), is widely regarded as one of Stallone’s strongest action performances. The franchise later moved toward larger-scale action with Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) and Rambo III (1988).
Both sequels expanded John Rambo’s adventures, but their approach also marked a significant shift from the original film. All three movies are now heading to Paramount+ on November 1, giving subscribers an opportunity to revisit the early chapters of the franchise.
The lineup includes the film that introduced Rambo and two sequels that helped turn him into a major action hero. However, the selection also leaves out two later entries in the series.
What to know about Sylvester Stallone’s three action movies on Paramount+
The three films arriving on Paramount+ are First Blood, Rambo: First Blood Part II, and Rambo III. Their November 1 release brings together the first three installments of the franchise, although the collection does not cover the complete story of Stallone’s iconic character.
The original First Blood stands apart from its successors because of its more restrained portrayal of Rambo. Released in 1982, the film follows the former Green Beret as he faces mistreatment from local law enforcement.
Rather than presenting him as an unstoppable killing machine, the story focuses on a veteran struggling to adjust to civilian life. Rambo also does not deliberately kill anyone in the original film, making its approach notably different from the sequels.
The franchise took a conventional action direction with Rambo: First Blood Part II. Released in 1985, the sequel sent Rambo on a mission to Vietnam and delivered the larger combat sequences that audiences increasingly associated with the character.
It became a major commercial success, earning more than $300 million worldwide. Rambo III, released in 1988, continued that shift with another large-scale mission. Together, the first three movies laid the foundation for the $819 million worldwide.
Jennifer Lawrence is entering the beauty industry after two decades of acting. The Hunger Games actress has a new haircare brand. However, the details are as bizarre as it gets.
As recently detailed in her interview with The Cut, developing the products for her brand required years of testing and a willingness to put her own hair through some unusual experiments. The Oscar-winning actor has been closely involved in creating the formulas, from testing samples to reviewing the smallest details of the packaging.
Though she put her own hair to the test for the initial samples, she got into an unpleasant banter with her husband. Lawrence left an unscented version of the repair mask in her hair for four days. The experience left her smelling so strongly that her husband, Cooke Maroney, eventually gave her an ultimatum.
“My husband was like, if you don’t wash your hair, you have to get a hotel room,” Lawrence said. Despite the warning, she remained committed to testing the formula.
Her new brand, Mes, launches on October 27 with three products: a repair mask, a restyling serum, and a volumizing mist. Lawrence partnered with chemical biological engineer Jasmina Aganovic to develop the products, which aim to improve hair health while reducing styling time and damage.

Jennifer Lawrence went to extreme lengths to get her new haircare brand right
Lawrence’s interest in haircare comes from years of struggling with her own hair. She has described her naturally thick, curly hair as difficult to manage, particularly in humid weather. Her work in Hollywood also involved frequent styling, heat exposure, and dyeing, which left her hair badly damaged after filming The Hunger Games sequel in 2013.
She eventually began looking for products that could style her hair without relying on hot tools. In 2023, she discovered Aganovic through a TED Talk about developing products that could change hair rather than simply coating it.
The partnership led to Mes, which uses formulas developed with a team of scientists. Lawrence also helped shape the brand’s packaging, scent, and overall presentation.
The launch comes as celebrity-founded beauty brands face intense competition. Lawrence has acknowledged feeling nervous about how consumers will respond, but she believes the products can stand on their own.
30 Rock fans have long wanted a special reunion of two popular stars. Finally, their wishes are coming true on Tracy Morgan’s latest NBC show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a couple of 30 Rock stars are coming to NBC’s The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins. Scott Adsit and Jane Krakowski will join Tracy Morgan and Daniel Radcliffe. Both are former co-stars from the popular sitcom. Interestingly, the 30 Rock connection does not end with Adsit and Krakowski.
The series creators, Robert Carlock and Sam Means, also worked on the sitcom. Additionally, Tina Fey, executive producer of The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, is also a 30 Rock alum. In addition to the names above, Andre De Shields, Edi Patterson, and Jason Mantzoukas will appear as guest stars in the show’s upcoming season.
Who did Jane Krakowski and Scott Adsit play in 30 Rock?
30 Rock premiered on October 11, 2006. In the sitcom, Jane Krakowski played Jenna Maroney, and Scott Adsit played Pete Hornberger. Krakowski’s Maroney was an attention-seeking co-star of the fictional sketch-comedy show TGS. She was also Liz Lemon’s best friend and was narcissistic in nature.
Adsit’s Pete Hornberger was TGS’s long-suffering producer. Hornberger was quick-witted, and his character portrayed the theme of mid-life despair in a hilarious way. Both Adsit and Krakowski joined the show in the first season.
The summary for 30 Rock, per Rotten Tomatoes, reads, “Based more-than-loosely on backstage shenanigans at ‘Saturday Night Live,’ ’30 Rock’ centers on young Liz Lemon, currently head writer for a live sketch-comedy show in New York. Complications follow when the network’s new president orders Liz to hire mentally unstable movie star Tracy Jordan to join the cast, throwing neurotic leading lady (and Liz’s best friend) Jenna Maroney into a tizzy. Liz tries to juggle all the egos around her while trying to chase her own dream.”
Although the first season ended on April 26, 2007, the show ran for seven consecutive seasons. The show’s last episode aired on January 31, 2013. Created by Tina Fey, 30 Rock holds a rating of 78% on Tomatometer and 92% on Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes.
Marvel Studios appears to have locked in another major piece of its X-Men reboot puzzle. Reports indicate the studio has chosen an Irish breakout star to play Hank McCoy, and fans already have strong opinions about the decision.
Peter Claffey cast as X-Men reboot’s Beast
Knight Edge Media reports exclusively that Peter Claffey will play Beast in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot.

Today, we at Knight Edge Media have been told exclusively that Irish actor Peter Claffey has been cast as Hank McCoy/Beast in the Marvel Studios X-Men reboot. The actor rose to f… pic.twitter.com/HUBHNebhn8
The Irish actor recently became a fan favorite for his role as Ser Duncan the Tall in HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Claffey’s name first surfaced as a Beast candidate in April when Jeff Sneider floated the possibility via his channel. Fans immediately began fan-casting the actor, citing his height and build as ideal for the physically imposing mutant. Several scoopers have since corroborated the casting report.
Now, Twitter users voiced their approval of Claffey as Beast. One fan posted, “Let’s go, this is my favorite casting announcement.”
One user commended Marvel’s casting team: “Someone needs to give a raise to the person handling the X-Men casting—they’re making spot-on choices here.”
Someone needs to give a raise to the person handling the X-Men casting—they’re making spot-on choices here.
However, Charles Melton also pursued the Beast role but ultimately stepped away. The Riverdale actor tried to make both the X-Men project and the Naruto live-action film work by re-teaming with director Jake Schreier for D23, but he simply couldn’t balance the schedules. Melton is rumored to play Kakashi Hatake in the Naruto adaptation.
Historically, Kelsey Grammer famously played Beast in 2007’s X-Men: The Last Stand and returns in this year’s Avengers: Doomsday from the 20th Century Fox universe. Nicholas Hoult played a younger Hank McCoy in the X-Men: First Class trilogy. The current broader X-Men cast features Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Asa Germann as Angel, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Adam Driver will portray the main villain, Mister Sinister. Production is expected to begin in the UK sometime in early 2027.
Marvel Studios has not confirmed Peter Claffey’s casting in X-Men, so fans would either have to wait till it reaches theatres on May 5, 2028, or until studio confirmation.
Have you seen 2026’s best romantic comedy movie? Based on the box office numbers, you probably haven’t. Thankfully, the Finding Emily Blu-ray is now available for purchase, bringing the great film starring Angourie Rice and Spike Fearn home.
“When a lovesick musician is given the wrong number for his dream girl, he teams up with a struggling psychology student to find her. Together, they spark chaos and a campus-wide frenzy that will test their hearts and ambitions,” says the official description.
Missed connections are at the forefront of Finding Emily, as a one-night encounter with a lovely college student played by Sadie Soverall leaves Spike Fearn’s Owen head over heels. However, after the number saved in his phone is missing a digit, he tries to find her by contacting her school. This leads him to contact every Emily at the school and get help from Angourie Rice’s character, who sees him as a perfect test subject for her thesis that love makes sane people act crazy. It’s a bit of a goofy setup, like most rom-coms, but it is played so well by Fearn and Rice that seeing their characters come together is a real joy.
The film really comes together thanks to a few memorable set pieces that also make it easy to rewatch. Shot in Manchester, the Finding Emily Blu-ray has a nice, authentic quality that really shines in high definition. A few musical performances also stand out, and the audio track sounds great.
The only underwhelming aspect of the Finding Emily Blu-ray is the lack of bonus features. Thankfully, it’s not completely empty, with four deleted scenes totaling nine minutes (including a 4-minute performance of “Weatherman”). These are fun to watch once, and more interactions with these charming characters are always welcome, but some featurettes and thoughts from the talented cast and crew would’ve been nice.
Finding Emily Blu-ray Review: Final Verdict
While the paltry special features are a bummer, the Finding Emily Blu-ray still gets an easy recommendation. The film is charming and inherently rewatchable, like all great rom-coms. If you missed it in theaters, check it out.
Disclosure: ComingSoon received product from the distributor for its Finding Emily Blu-ray review.

The planned five-week shoot is relatively brief, although such schedules are common for Netflix holiday rom-coms.
Netflix has not officially announced a release date for the film. While the aim would be to wrap things up and get the project ready by Christmas 2027, fans will have to wait for confirmation in the latter half of 2027. If filming wraps in February as planned, the production will have several months for post-production. Ari Sandel is directing the film.
What is Nick Jonas’ Netflix Christmas movie about?

The Terminal List showrunner David DiGilio, author Jack Carr, and executive producer Jared Shaw spoke with ComingSoon’s Tyler Treese about the second season of the hit Prime Video show. The trio discussed how Season 2 expands the story, working with director Ray Mendoza, and Chris Pratt’s dark performance. It’s now streaming on Prime Video.
“Season Two finds James Reece (Chris Pratt) searching for new purpose after finishing his list. When the CIA corners him, Reece must clear his name by stopping a resurgent terrorist group that has turned a former ally to their cause. The globe-trotting espionage thriller uncovers a conspiracy reaching from Moscow to Langley and into Reece’s own family history,” says the official synopsis.
Tyler Treese: David, in the first episode of this season, we get a very unexpected cameo, at least for me, Bill Maher. How was it getting him involved and having to do your own little episode of Real Time? You guys nailed it.
David DiGilio: It was incredible. Thank you. And we can thank the man behind you, Chris Pratt, for reaching out directly to Bill Maher. I believe he may have traded a podcast performance to get Bill Maher to perform in our show.
We brought a small crew from Canada to work with our existing crew in Los Angeles. It was great to be able to shoot part of this show back in L.A. Bill was incredible. We did it right at the end of a taping. Constance jumped in there. Our other actor jumped in as well. And the man who just nailed his lines, Mr. Bill Maher, was incredible.
Jared Shaw: We’re hoping he’s going to be able to make the premiere. He’s a little busy, but man, yeah, it’s great.
Tyler Treese: Jack, this season adapts the second book, True Believer. What impressed you the most about this adaptation and how they made tweaks to the story to fit a new medium?
Jack Carr: This one is global in nature. I was very intentional on my part in the book, and we did the same thing in the TV show.
It’s a risk to take a full episode and go across the Pacific. It’s a risk to take a full episode and drop it into Africa and have this character evolve and still propel this storyline forward. So I did that in the book, and that was successful on that front.
We did it in the show. People are loving these first two episodes. And for a lot of people that read the books, they always think that we’re not going to do certain things because Hollywood would never do X, Y, or Z.
And so to have this journey that Chris Pratt goes on as James Reece across the ocean, to have him learning to live again in Africa and capture that on film and deal with the difficulties that you have filming in such a remote location, and then to do these things that people think we’re not going to do, that part was probably the most rewarding, to see those scenes and chapters brought to life.
Tyler Treese: Jared, Chris Pratt told me that he really relies on being able to look at you anytime he’s unsure during filming or has a character question, and you’re able to give him feedback. What does that mean for you to have such trust from a star of that magnitude and him really wanting to be collaborative?
Jared Shaw: Yeah, I mean, we have that foundation of years of friendship just to start with. So there’s that bond that’s built over time just naturally as two very close buddies. And then with my background and where I come from, from the military side, Chris has been able to tap into that.
And I’ve been able to transfer over that knowledge and experience that I have and help him on the day when we’re on set find that tone and where it needs to be. Like he said, a lot of the time it’s just simply a look. If I just give a little nod, he knows he’s in the zone.
And we’ll say it a lot of the time, “Hey, give me a little more Reece. Give me just a little bit more Reece.” And he knows exactly what that means. All right, I need to go a little darker. I need to go a little more stoic with it. I need to be a little more on the operator side.
David DiGilio: He’s such a good guy. I mean, he constantly wants to bring that smile. He wants to bring that affability, and you help ground him as the Reece Whisperer.
Shaw: And as we all see on screen, he’s found it. He knows it. I mean, he is James Reece. And it’s really cool to see that transformation that he’s made from Chris Pratt, happy-go-lucky, funny guy, to, “Damn, you got that side of you.”
DiGilio: And maybe his best performance ever this season.
David, I want to ask you about working with Ray Mendoza, who’s one of the great directors on board this season. I loved Warfare. He’s another veteran who served our country. How was it getting him involved and working with Ray?
DiGilio: Ray Mendoza is an incredible asset to this team, and he’s been with this team from the beginning. He worked super closely with Antoine Fuqua to do the tunnel set piece in Syria that kicks off the entire franchise.
We then watched him rise to second unit director for us and then go off to co-direct Warfare, which is now one of the most authentic military thrillers ever put on screen.
We needed a director to step in and finish the Morocco work of 204 and 205. Our director, Tucker Gates, had a family crisis that he had to attend to back in the States.
Ray Mendoza, first pick. Incredible for him to come over. And then amazingly, I think episode 205, you’re going to see the first episode ever directed by a former SEAL, produced by a former SEAL, written by Kenny Sheard, a former SEAL, based on a book by this man, Jack Carr, a former SEAL. It’s pretty remarkable what Ray brought to that team.
Yeah, I love how you guys have all embraced all these former military and getting them involved in the entertainment industry. It really adds a layer to the show, and I think it’s really successful because of that.
Thanks to David DiGilio, Jack Carr, and Jared Shaw for taking the time to talk about The Terminal List Season 2.
The upcoming film explores the making of Stallone’s classic boxing drama Rocky. I Play Rocky premiered earlier this year at the Toronto International Film Festival to mostly positive reviews.
Check out the I Play Rocky trailer below.
What happens in the I Play Rocky trailer?
The trailer opens with Ippolito portraying Stallone as a struggling actor taking on odd jobs to make ends meet. Frustrated by his inability to land roles, Stallone decides to write his own script, which his wife believes has potential. During a meeting with the eventual producers of Rocky, he receives praise for his work on the screenplay.
The footage takes a turn when Stallone proposes the idea of playing Rocky himself, which stuns the producers. He is then shown meeting Carl Weathers for the first time in a real boxing ring.
The trailer also includes snippets of recreations of scenes from the actual Rocky. However, instead of showing footage of Stallone, they show Ippolito reenacting the Italian Stallion’s performance. The trailer ends with the iconic shot of Rocky running in front of the stairs of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Directed by Peter Farrelly, the film also stars AnnaSophia Robb as Stallone’s wife, Sasha Czack, along with Stephan James playing Stallone’s co-star, Carl Weathers. The rest of the cast includes P. J. Byrne, Matt Dillon, Toby Kebbell, Jay Duplass, and more. I Play Rocky was written by Peter Gamble.
Stallone found international success and fame following the release of Rocky. He was also nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards, with the film taking home two wins at the ceremony.
I Play Rocky will be released in select theaters on November 6, 2026. The film will then expand to other theaters on November 20, 2026.
Next year, a new adventure heads to Middle-earth in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. While several familiar faces from Peter Jackson‘s LOTR trilogy will return, one integral role has been recast. It’s a polarizing decision, but one which will be for the best.
In The Hunt for Gollum, Jamie Dornan plays Strider, a ranger Gandalf summons to find Gollum. Strider is later revealed to be Aragorn, the character Viggo Mortensen played in three LOTR movies. Dornan plays a younger version of the iconic character.
Replacing Mortensen has been divisive, especially since LOTR staples Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood are returning as Gandalf and Frodo, respectively. However, judging by recent comments, Dornan understands how to portray Strider without infringing on Mortensen’s performance.
The Hunt for Gollum transition from Viggo Mortensen to Jamie Dornan will ultimately work
First, no one can replace Mortensen as Aragorn. It’s a legendary character in The Lord of the Rings, one that Mortensen will be associated with for life. Dornan fully understands the comparison and acknowledged the pressure of following in Mortensen’s footsteps in an interview with L’Officiel.
“Aragorn will always be just Viggo,” Dornan said. “His performance is one of my all-time favorites, and I feel honored to try to recapture at least some of the energy he originally brought to the character. There’s no part of me that’s trying to outdo him.”
Dornan has the right mindset for Strider. He needs to honor the character’s spirit without doing a Mortensen impression. If Dornan tries to outdo Mortensen, he will likely fail. Playing a younger version of Aragorn allows Dornan to give his own interpretation of the character, which should only help differentiate his performance from Mortensen’s.
Despite the sentiment that recasting doesn’t work, look to Marvel for examples of how things went right. Mark Ruffalo replaced Edward Norton as the Hulk, and it’s been one of the MCU’s best casting decisions. Don Cheadle has been so good as James Rhodes that it’s easy to forget that Terrence Howard once played that role.
Dornan has big shoes to fill, but ultimately, it’s a risk worth taking.
A group of young campers has an unusual plan for their future, and one counselor stands in their way. Tiny Fugitives, the R-rated comedy starring Johnny Knoxville and produced by Seth Rogen, can now be watched at home.
The film arrives on digital platforms for purchase and rental on October 20, 2026. Viewers can find it on Amazon, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. The release follows its theatrical debut on September 18, giving audiences another way to watch the comedy.
What Does the Audience Need to Know About Tiny Fugitives Before Its Digital Release?
Directed and co-written by Michael Lewen, Tiny Fugitives follows a group of determined 12-year-olds. They hatch a plan to escape reality and spend the rest of their lives at sleepaway camp. However, their plan faces a major obstacle in Bob, a relentless 50-year-old counselor played by Knoxville. He will do whatever it takes to stop the children from carrying out their scheme.
The comedy features a young cast alongside familiar faces from film and television. Benjamin Pajak plays Jacob Udell, while Aaron Harris appears as Charness. Giancarlo Esposito and Mark Wahlberg‘s movie together is hitting digital streaming today. By Any Means, based on an unbelievable true story, was released on September 4, 2026. It is available to buy or rent on Digital, starting today, October 20, 2026, from Paramount Home Entertainment.
Directed by Elegance Bratton from a script by Sascha Penn, the historical crime thriller film stars Wahlberg in the lead as Gregory Scarpa, a mafia hitman turned FBI informant, alongside Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Special FBI Agent Wayne Strider (his character is loosely based on real-life FBI agent Lindley DeVecchio) and Esposito as Vernon Dahmer.
The movie also stars Nicole Beharie as Allison Strider, Josh Lucas as Special Agent Everett Rhodes, David Strathairn as Special Agent Roy K. Moore, Ethan Embry as Sam Bowers, LisaGay Hamilton as Ms. Rebecca Brewer, and LaChanze as Hattie Dahmer.
The investigation at the center of By Any Means
Per the film’s official synopsis, “Inspired by a true story, a young Black FBI agent (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) is sent into 1960s Mississippi to investigate a wave of brutal killings targeting civil rights leaders. Forced to work alongside notorious mafia hitman Greg Scarpa (Mark Wahlberg), he finds himself pulled into a deadly hunt where justice and vengeance begin to blur.”
The investigation at the center of By Any Means focuses on the 1966 firebombing murder of prominent civil rights activist and NAACP leader Vernon Dahmer Sr. in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Since the local residents are either too terrified to speak or deeply hostile toward federal authorities, the FBI pairs the principled, ambitious Black FBI agent Wayne with the ruthless, real-life New York Mafia hitman and secret government informant Gregory “The Grim Reaper” Scarpa. While Agent Strider aims to solve the murder strictly by the book, Scarpa is brought in to use brutal, illegal coercion tactics to break the wall of silence and uncover the truth.
Despite its intriguing plot, By Any Means received mixed critical reviews, including a 50% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes. Its box office performance wasn’t much better either, as it made only $17 million worldwide on a reported budget of $29 million.
