It’s not uncommon for a developer to mine an established series from its past through a remake, reboot, or sequel. However, that’s not in the cards for Ghost of Tsushima developer Sucker Punch Productions, as it recently stated that it currently has “no plans” to make more Infamous or Sly Cooper games.
The team explained this in a post on its website talking about its 25th anniversary coming up in October. The post said that Sucker Punch is proud of Rocket: Robot on Wheels, Sly Cooper, and Infamous, but the increased scale of its newest games require the “full attention” of the studio, meaning it doesn’t have the bandwidth for its legacy franchises right now.
“With our focus on our current project, we have no plans to revisit Infamous or Sly Cooper right now, and no other studio is currently working on projects related to those franchises either. These characters are very special and near and dear to our hearts, so while we’d never say never to re-opening those doors down the road, for now there are no Infamous or Sly Cooper games in development.”

The note at the end does mean that it’s possible that Sucker Punch could revisit them in the future, but that, if it ever does happen, won’t be for some time. It is at least keeping the Infamous 2 servers up for longer (while also admitting that they will be turned off one day) and releasing the Cole’s Legacy DLC for Infamous Second Son in more territories, which was previously only for those who, depending on the region, pre-ordered the game, bought the collector’s edition, or bought it separately after. Cole’s Legacy is a mission that touches on what happened after Infamous 2 with characters and cosmetics from that game.
Ghost of Tsushima has been quite successful, which could likely explain at least some of this decision. Along with being a critical darling, Sucker Punch announced in January 2022 that the game had sold over 8 million copies, a number that has likely grown in the six months since. And even though the team said in the post that it isn’t ready to talk about its mysterious next game, there have been multiple job listings that heavily imply that another Ghost of Tsushima is in the works. Sony also announced that it is making a Ghost of Tsushima film, further showing its commitment to that newer series.

Sly Cooper and Infamous haven’t gotten nearly as much love as of late. Infamous First Light released early on in the PlayStation 4’s lifecycle in 2014, but it, along with Second Son, did get updated to support the PS4 Pro a few years later. It has been even longer since Sucker Punch has touched the Sly Cooper franchise, as it didn’t even develop 2013’s Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, the fourth title in the series. The Sly Cooper film that was revealed in 2016 never saw the light of day, either; a fate also suffered by its alleged animated series. There have been very loose rumors of a new Sly Cooper game that’s possibly being developed by Concrete Genie developer Pixelopus, but nothing has been confirmed.
