The Season 2 finale of Disney’s Wizards Beyond Waverly Place featured two major reveals, including a shocking death.

In the Season 2 finale (via Variety), it is revealed that Alex Russo (Selena Gomez) is none other than Billie’s (Janice LeAnn Brown) mother. The shocking revelation solves a mystery about Billie’s family, who wasn’t seen or heard from throughout the show. The spin-off series began with Alex bringing Billie home to live with her brother Justin (David Henrie) to train in the art of magic.
The show’s second season finale, titled “The Wizard at the End of the World,” revealed that a memory wiping spell had erased Billie’s memory of her family. In a confrontation with the antagonist Lord Morsus, Morsus forces Billie to open a portal that will connect the human world to the one of dark magic. Alex begins crying, and a tear falls on a locket they had acquired, which opens up a memory.
In the memory, Alex and Justin can be seen dropping Billie off at a boarding school. Billie doesn’t want to go, and cries to her mother, Alex, to not leave her. Alex then notes that someone is “trying to find” Billie, so she has to leave her, before promising they’ll find each other again and wiping all of their memories. As they leave, Justin says Billie’s grandfather can never know about her, revealing that Morsus is actually the grandfather to Billie.
The Season 2 finale concludes in shocking fashion, as the portal opens up just as Alex, Justin, and the group are freed. Before any damage can be done, though, Alex says goodbye to Billie, then tackles Morsus through the portal, which immediately closes behind them. This seemingly leaves Alex dead.
As of now, it’s unclear what the resolution to the Season 2 finale will be. The episode ends with Billie reconciling with her newfound family, with a major cliffhanger still left to potentially be addressed.
