
Narcos: Mexico actor Luis Gerardo Méndez has joined Ben Affleck in Netflix’s upcoming crime thriller, titled Animals.
In addition to starring, Affleck will also direct the movie from a script by Connor McIntyre and Billy Ray. While other details about the feature remain under wraps, it is expected to center around kidnapping. It is set to film in Los Angeles.

Emilia Pérez and Locked Up star Adriana Paz is also joining the project with Méndez. The two will be joining Emmy winners Gillian Anderson (Sex Education, Scoop) and Kerry Washington (The Six Triple Eight, Django Unchained), with Oscar nominee Steven Yeun (Beef, The Walking Dead) also on board.
Affleck, along with Matt Damon and Dani Bernfeldm, will produce the crime thriller feature through their Artists Equity banner. Additional producers include Brad Weston and Collin Creighton through Makeready, with Artists Equity’s Michael Joe, Kevin Halloran, and Lucy Damon serving as executive producers.
Méndez, who made his directing debut in Netflix’s Techno Boys, is a Mexican actor who rose to fame for starring in the 2013 dark comedy movie The Noble Family. He most recently starred in the Austin Peters-directed thriller film Skincare, opposite Elizabeth Banks, Lewis Pullman, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, and Nathan Fillion.
Méndez’s other feature credits include Me Time, Half Brothers, Charlie’s Angels, Murder Mystery, Rebirth, and more. On the television side, the actor starred in The Resort, Who Killed Him?, and Netflix’s first Spanish-language comedy series Club de Cuervos, among others. He also appeared in the third season of Narcos: Mexico as Victor Tapia.
On the other hand, Paz is known for her roles in Chupa, This Is Not a Comedy, Death’s Roulette, A World for Raúl, La rebelión, Coyote, and more.
