Gerard Butler is set to race against time to save 70,000 fans at the world’s biggest sporting event, the World Cup.
In the upcoming action movie, produced by the John Wick banner Thunder Road, the acclaimed actor will play a sniper who must save innocent lives at all costs.
What else do we know about the new Gerard Butler action movie?
Gerard Butler’s next movie is The Nest, an action-thriller. The story follows his character as he embarks on a mission after receiving an anonymous radio threat, Deadline reports. Interestingly, The Nest is written by Aaron Benjamin, a short story author who previously wrote Maverick, a biopic about John McCain as a POW (Prisoner of War).
The film’s producers are Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee at Thunder Road, Gerard Butler, and Alan Siegel for G-BASE (Den of Thieves), and Steve Klinsky for Untravelled Worlds (Manhattan Night). Jon Hersh and Mahal Sourgose are serving as executive producers.
Production is scheduled to begin in early 2027. At the moment, no director has been announced yet. Butler has established himself as a reliable action star, cementing his place as a bankable one over the last decade. Moreover, through franchises such as the Has Fallen, Greenland, Den of Thieves, and How to Train Your Dragon, he has proven his caliber.
Most recently, he starred in Lionsgate’s emotional action thriller Greenland 2: Migration. Directed by Ric Roman Waugh, it was released in theaters in January 2026. The film also features Morena Baccarin and Roman Griffin Davis, who reprise their roles from 2020’s hit survival movie Greenland.
Other cast members include Amber Rose Revah as Dr. Amina, Peter Polycarpou as Dr. Haugen, and William Abadie as Denis Laurent. Moreover, Tommie Earl Jenkins, Nelia Valery Da Costa, and Trond Fausa Aurvåg also play crucial roles. The movie recently began streaming on HBO Max.
