After five years since making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Simu Liu is finally reprising his superhero role in Marvel Studios’ highly-anticipated Avengers: Doomsday. This marks Liu’s first time joining fellow MCU actors in a crossover movie. The star-studded movie is currently slated to arrive in theaters on May 1, 2026.
Liu’s Shang-Chi was last seen by fans at the end of his 2021 movie, where he was able to meet Benedict Wong’s Wong, Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner, and Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers to discuss why the Ten Rings suddenly became a beacon after he acquired it from his father. Besides Avengers: Doomsday, Liu’s Shang-Chi sequel is still currently in development at Marvel Studios, with director Destin Daniel Cretton expected to return.

Who is joining Shang-Chi in his MCU return?
Avengers: Doomsday will be directed by Avengers: Endgame filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo from a screenplay written by Stephen McFeely. The latest installment will feature Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr. as he signs on for the role of Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom. Joining him are The Fantastic Four cast led by Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/Thing.

Besides Liu, Marvel Studios has also just confirmed that Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Letitia Wright, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Kelsey Grammer, Lewis Pullman, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, and Danny Ramirez have been tapped to reprise their respective characters as Thor, Scott Lang/Ant-Man, Bucky, Sam Wilson/Captain America, Yelena, Shuri, Namor, Hank McCoy/Beast, Sentry, Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, John Walker/US Agent, and Joaquin Torres/Falcon.
