With many Marvel stars reprising their characters in Avengers: Doomsday, fans have been wondering if Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord would join them. Speculation about the actor’s appearance in the film began after his name was noticeably absent from the cast reveal livestream in March 2025. Now, Pratt has addressed whether he will reprise the intergalactic superhero in the film.
Chris Pratt would only tell the Pope if he’s in Avengers: Doomsday
In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host asked the Guardians of the Galaxy star if Pope Leo XIV, whom he met at the Vatican in December 2025, knew he was playing Mario in the Super Mario films. He responded in a hilarious tone, “He was furious.”
Jimmy Kimmel then asked Chris Pratt if he would tell the Pope the truth about his involvement in Avengers: Doomsday if the latter enquired. “I would have to tell him,” the 46-year-old actor replied.
“But you won’t tell me?” Kimmel asked, to which Pratt quipped, “Not quite the Pope, Jimmy,” prompting laughter from the audience.
Last year, in an interview with Collider, Pratt also admitted that he was uncertain when Star-Lord would appear in the MCU again. However, he assured fans of Peter Quill that the character would return. He even brought up the promise from one of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s post-credits scenes, which states, “The Legendary Star-Lord will return.”
Notably, in the same interview, Chris Pratt jokingly addressed the absence of his name from the Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal livestream. He said, “I don’t know! I think it was, like, far off… They must have cut away from it. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know. It was there. I’m sure it was there.”
Currently, Star-Lord and his Guardians of the Galaxy teammates are some of the Marvel characters unconfirmed for Doomsday. Thus, it remains to be seen where he will show up in the MCU next. However, a rumor from scooper James Mack suggests Star-Lord will show up in both the Disney+ series VisionQuest and Doomsday.
Additionally, Marvel Studios teased the inclusion of more actors and characters for Avengers: Doomsday. They did so in an Instagram comment exchange with Robert Downey Jr. at the time of the cast reveal. He wondered if the names shown on the chairs were the full, finalized cast. To this, Marvel Studios replied, “There’s always room for more…”
However, it’s currently unclear if Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord will be part of the next lineup reveal.
