Some new details about the villains featured in Spider-Noir have been revealed.
Spider-Noir is a forthcoming superhero series that stars Nicolas Cage. Coming from co-showrunners Steve Lightfoot and Oren Uziel, the series serves as a spin-off to the Spider-Man alternate universes that were first established in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
What is the update on Spider-Noir?
Per Esquire Magazine, it has now been confirmed that Jack Huston will be playing Flint Marko, better known as Sandman, in Spider-Noir. Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider previously reported that this may be the case last year, but we now know for certain that it is true.
Brendan Gleeson, meanwhile, will be playing Silvermane. It was previously known that he had been cast as a New York mob boss, but now we know he’s specifically portraying the Marvel Comics character created by Stan Lee, John Romita Sr., and John Buscema who first appeared in 1969’s Amazing Spider-Man #73.
Esquire’s feature notes that Silvermane “has been the subject of repeated assassination attempts” in Spider-Noir, which may be part of a “broader scheme at play.”
Lastly, Li Jun Li is playing a femme fatale character named Cat Hardy, who is a “nightclub chanteuse” that lures Cage’s Ben Reilly “into the underworld conspiracy at the center of the series.” The article specifically points out that “comics fans will immediately draw a connection between her nickname and Felicia Hardy, better known as the master thief Black Cat.”
Having said that, it’s unclear if this Cat Hardy character is supposed to be Black Cat, or if they just share a similar name that’s meant to serve as an Easter egg. More will be revealed when the show — which is produced by Sony Pictures Television and will be available to watch in both black-and-white and color — premieres on Prime Video and MGM+ this spring.
