There may be a few MCU projects that fans of the franchise will want to rewatch before tuning into Wonder Man.
Marvel Television’s Wonder Man will be available to stream on Disney+ later today. Created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, the show stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams/Wonder Man, while Ben Kingsley also reprises his Trevor Slattery MCU role.
The synopsis for the show reads, “Aspiring Hollywood actor Simon Williams is struggling to get his career off the ground. During a chance meeting with Trevor Slattery, an actor whose biggest roles may be well behind him, Simon learns legendary director Von Kovak is remaking the superhero film Wonder Man. These two actors at opposite ends of their careers doggedly pursue life-changing roles in this film as audiences get a peek behind the curtain of the entertainment industry.”
What MCU projects should you watch before Wonder Man?
Before starting Wonder Man, Marvel fans will want to go back to 2013’s Iron Man 3, directed by Shane Black, as that was the first official introduction of Trevor Slattery. Trevor is a key player in Wonder Man, and he’s been given quite a character arc over the past 13 years. Witnessing all of it and understanding who Trevor truly is starts at Iron Man 3.
Following that, there’s the All Hail the King short film that was released in 2014. Just a brief 14 minutes in length, it bridges the gap between Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
It should be no surprise, then, that the next recommended viewing title is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Not only does it once again feature Trevor, but Shang-Chi is also directed by Cretton, who is doing Spider-Man: Brand New Day next — meaning, there might be some more synergy coming between all these projects.
Speaking of Spider-Man, the last Marvel Studios project to check out before Wonder Man is Spider-Man: No Way Home. While the Department of Damage Control (DODC) is first introduced in Spider-Man: Homecoming, No Way Home offers the first look at where this storyline may be headed. As in, the DODC becoming major MCU villains. No Way Home also introduces Arian Moayed’s P. Cleary, who returns in Wonder Man, to the MCU.
Of course, this is Wonder Man’s first appearance in the MCU, meaning there’s no catch-up required when it comes to the show’s actual main protagonist. Where Wonder Man will show up next in the MCU is unclear at this time, as no formal announcements have yet been made about Abdul-Mateen returning to this role.
