One of HBO‘s most controversial and Emmy-nominated shows is finally returning tonight with an all-new season. The first episode of Real Time with Bill Maher Season 24 officially premieres tonight at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and HBO Max.
What do we know about HBO Max’s Real Time with Bill Maher show?
Real Time with Bill Maher is executive-produced by Maher, Sheila Griffiths, Dean Johnsen, Billy Martin, Marc Gurvitz, and Chris Kelly. Last January 7, Warner Bros. Discovery announced that HBO had renewed the show for two additional seasons, extending its run through 2028. It is produced by Matt Wood, with Paul Casey serving as the director.
“Allowing Maher to offer his unique perspective on contemporary issues, the show continues with its opening monologue, one-on-one interviews with notable guests, roundtable discussions with panelists, and its signature ‘New Rules,'” reads the logline.
The weekly hour-long series has been airing on HBO since 2003. Throughout its more than two-decade run, the talk show has received 22 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Variety Series. Before hosting the show, Maher previously hosted a similar show on ABC, titled Politically Incorrect.
Recently, Maher’s latest HBO comedy special, titled Is Anyone Else Seeing Things?, earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television. The said special made its debut over a year ago, and is still available for streaming on HBO Max. Before this, Maher had already starred in 12 solo specials for the network, with the first one airing in 1995.
