HBO‘s Harry Potter TV show has found its Moaning Myrtle, with an unexpected face set to portray the ghost. The upcoming live-action adaptation is based on J.K. Rowling‘s iconic book series.
Molly Hewitt-Richards, known for her roles in projects such as Code of Silence and Casualty, will play Moaning Myrtle in Harry Potter Season 2, reports Variety. In 2026, Hewitt-Richards was seen in another TV show, F**k Ups. The comedy project was created by Laura Marcus.
The next chapter of HBO’s awaited TV series will be based on the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
What is the story of Moaning Myrtle in Harry Potter
Harry Potter fans who have already read the books and watched the movies must be well aware of Moaning Myrtle. She is a ghost and former Hogwarts student, haunting one of the girls’ bathrooms at the school.
Her real name is Myrtle Elizabeth Warren, and she was a Muggle-born witch. At Hogwarts, she belonged to the Ravenclaw house. She was killed in 1943 by the Serpent of Slytherin, released by Tom Riddle.
In the Harry Potter movie franchise, Moaning Myrtle’s character was portrayed by Shirley Henderson (Trainspotting, Wonderland).
Before the Harry Potter TV show’s Christmas debut, Season 2 has expanded with its constantly growing cast. Other notable names who are now part of the series include Katherine Parkinson as Mrs. Weasley, Lenny Rush as Dobby the house-elf, Kit Harington as Gilderoy Lockhart, and Billy Barratt as Tom Riddle.
Additionally, Season 2 will see Bonnie Hill playing Ginny Weasley instead of Gracie Cochrane, who portrayed the role in Season 1. However, she exited the show due to unforeseen circumstances and won’t be part of it anymore.
The leading cast of the show features Dominic McLaughlin in the titular role, alongside Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone will premiere on HBO Max on December 25, 2026.
