Sydney Sweeney and Marilyn Monroe have just been proven to be linked. As it turns out, the two popular Hollywood sex symbols share an ancestor. New research traces their connection through this ancestor.

The global family history platform MyHeritage has confirmed that Sweeney, the era’s raging Hollywood heartthrob, and Monroe, the beauty queen of the 50s, are 9th cousins, once removed.

Their connection reportedly traces through their paternal lines: Sydney through her father, Steven Sweeney, and Marilyn through her biological father, Charles Stanley Gifford. Their shared ancestor, meanwhile, is Ezra Perry (c.1625–1689). Perry is said to have been an early settler in Sandwich, Massachusetts.

Of course, reports that Monroe and Sweeney are related is nothing new. Ever since the Euphoria star stepped into the limelight, she has drawn comparisons to Monroe. Over the years, people have repeatedly described her as a modern-day Marilyn Monroe, from her Old Hollywood styling and blonde bombshell image to the constant, keen attention that surrounds her public image and relationships.

For instance, earlier this year, Sweeney drew strong comparisons to the sex symbol of the 50s and 60s when she wore a 73-year-old vintage Cecil Chapman gown that closely echoed one of Monroe’s most recognizable looks. With this new genealogical study officially linking the two as heretically connected, all those comparisons to Monroe inevitably take on a new meaning for Sweeney.

Lanterns Episode 8 Video Reveals How DCU Show Filmed One of Its Most Intense Scenes

Lanterns filmmaker has given fans a sneak peek at Episode 8 filming. The behind-the-scenes look comes just a couple of days after the season finale.

Justin Riemer, the stunt coordinator and second unit director on Lanterns, shared a BTS video of Episode 8 on his Instagram. The footage showed how the house fire scene was filmed. The season finale began with Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan setting his house on fire while he’s still inside, shortly before dying.

The video shows a crew member setting the curtains on fire in what appears to be a controlled environment. While the fire was lit safely, the effect looked amplified on camera. The scene captured the harrowing moment that left fans shocked. Needless to say, the scene appeared to be all on camera with no CGI involved.

The fiery scene is just one part of Kyle Chandler’s Lanterns journey

Kyle Chandler has delivered a memorable performance as Hal Jordan throughout the first season of Lanterns. His dynamic with Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart became central as the pair investigated a local murder that led to a much bigger cosmic mystery.

Like the fire scene, Chandler has performed several other practical stunt scenes, including the fight sequences and flying stunts. Chandler had previously shared his uncertainty about taking on a superhero role. However, he changed his mind after reading the incredible script. The actor also emphasized the collaborative effort of his co-stars and crew members that made the journey seamless (via TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle).

Created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, Lanterns Season 1 aired its eighth and final episode on October 4. HBO Max has not officially renewed the show for Season 2. However, recent reports confirm that a new installment is already in early development.

Sebastian Stan Was Trying to Join James Gunn’s DCU Before The Batman Part II Casting

Sebastian Stan was keen to be in James Gunn‘s DCU before being part of The Batman Part II. The Hollywood star, who is widely known for his MCU role as Bucky Barnes, recently revealed this surprising news.

In an interaction with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Stan revealed that he was looking to join the DCU before even talking to Matt Reeves about The Batman Part II. “Matt [Reeves] had seen The Apprentice and really liked the film and my work in that.”

“And then that inspired a conversation…Subsequently, around the same time, I was kind of poking the bear a bit over there with James Gunn, going, ‘I think we should figure something out.’ I’ve just gotten more active about manifesting your own [opportunities].” Instead of the DCU, Stan eventually became part of Reeves’ Batman universe.

Sebastian Stan also talked about his undisclosed role in The Batman Part II. Without sharing any crucial details on his character, the actor mentioned that it’s very different than what he’s done in the past. “This is definitely, for me, feeling like something very different than I’ve gotten to do. And that’s what I love, and I’m excited about.”

He also called it “a very ambitious thing” while hoping that “it lands right. I have a lot of faith in it because I do feel like Matt is truly like a genius of our time and one of the very few people that I think is so unique and so specific and has been at this for three years.”

As for his character in the film’s plot, Stan was previously expected to play Harvey Dent/Two-Face. Later, however, his bald look sparked theories of him being Victor Zsasz, an iconic Batman villain from DC Comics.

The Batman Part II hits theaters on February 18, 2028. Its ensemble will feature Robert Pattinson, reprising his role as Bruce Wayne, alongside Andy Serkis, Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Wright, and more.

The Lanterns Season 1 finale reveals Sheriff Kerry Kane as Hal Jordan’s killer. Kerry shot Hal after he confronted her about her son Noah’s secret identity as a Manhunter. Hal urged Kerry to flee Rushville with him to protect themselves from the danger Noah posed.

Kerry refused to leave her life behind and panicked upon hearing the threat to her family. She fatally shot Hal as he tried to reason with her, with his last words being a declaration of love. The act stemmed from years of fear over someone discovering Noah’s true alien nature.

Noah had earlier saved Hal’s life using Manhunter regeneration technology after arsonists firebombed Hal’s home. He replaced Hal’s burned skin the same way his grandmother Zoe had healed John Stewart years prior. Noah kept his Manhunter identity hidden from Kerry, who believed he remained unaware of his alien origins.

Zoe had engineered Kerry’s pregnancy with Noah after saving her in a 2007 encounter. Kerry received more than a replacement finger from Zoe’s alien technology during that exchange. She unknowingly became the mother of a second Manhunter and spent years protecting his secret.

Noah initially took the blame for killing Hal, fearing his mother would face consequences for the crime. He also struggled with his synthetic Manhunter instincts versus his human upbringing throughout the episode. Noah ultimately relinquished the ring and lantern, choosing to play college football at the University of Nebraska.

The finale also sees John Stewart claim the Green Lantern mantle on his own terms as an independent operator. He charges his ring using a fear-infused lantern that Sinestro forged on a decimated alien planet. John recites a personalized oath that embraces fear rather than rejecting it, distinguishing himself from traditional Green Lanterns.

Co-creator Damon Lindelof confirmed that Hal’s death was never intended as a fake-out during a press conference. Showrunner Chris Mundy nominated Kerry as the killer early in development, and she remained the choice throughout. Co-creator Tom King added that John’s revised oath fits the lore because he wields an unsanctioned, fear-tinged lantern. John ultimately lets Kerry go free, honoring what he believes Hal would have wanted for her.

Lanterns Season 1 is now streaming in full on HBO Max.

Fans of gritty sports dramas can now watch one of the genre’s more entertaining films starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Rachel McAdams for free. Lionsgate has announced that it is streaming Antoine Fuqua’s 2015 film Southpaw for free on YouTube. Interested viewers can watch the film on the studio’s official YouTube channel.

Following its release, Southpaw holds a 59% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. However, its audience score reveals that viewers were thoroughly entertained by Gyllenhaal’s boxing drama, at 75%. Made on a budget of $30 million, the film grossed over $91 million worldwide. Gyllenhaal was praised for his performance in the film.

Southpaw follows a boxer fighting to rebuild his life after tragedy

Southpaw tells the story of Gyllenhaal playing Billy “The Great” Hope, a rising light heavyweight boxing champion. Billy starts with having a loving family and lifestyle, but it’s all ruined after a fatal incident involving gun violence. After losing his wife (McAdams), the film follows Billy’s fight to get custody of his daughter after hitting rock bottom. Along the way, Billy finds a surprising friend in Tick Wills, played by Forest Whitaker, a former fighter who now trains amateur boxers.

Besides Gyllenhaal, McAdams, and Whitaker, the film stars 50 Cent, Oona Laurence, Naomie Harris, Rita Ora, and more. Fuqua directed the film from a script by Kurt Sutter. It is produced by Fuqua, Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, Peter Riche, Alan Riche, and Jerry Ye. The film is dedicated to composer James Horner, who died shortly before it was released.

Owen Wilson revealed what it was like filming new Avengers Endgame: Encore scenes. The American actor recently spoke with ComingSoon alongside Matt Rife to promote Rolling Loud. Wilson was asked when he shot his Endgame: Encore scene and whether the Russo Brothers filmed it.

The actor said, “Yeah, that was the Russo Brothers, and we shot that last year in London. So, yeah, it was fun to put on that TVA coat and tie that Mobius wears and do that.”

The Night at the Museum actor stars as Mobius M. Mobius in the Disney+ show, Loki. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he serves as Loki’s closest friend and moral anchor, and is an important figure within the TVA. In the comics, Mobius is a middle-management bureaucrat and judge for the Time Variance Authority (TVA).

What happens in Owen Wilson’s Avengers Endgame: Encore scene?

Owen Wilson’s scene is the second post-credits scene in Avengers Endgame: Encore. The scene opens up at the TVA, where Miss Minutes introduces what the TVA stands for and reminds people to stay within their own universe. It shifts to Mobius walking through the office, a coffee mug in hand, as he glances at the control panel and says, “This doesn’t look too good.”

Standing alongside Ke Huy Quan’s Ouroboros and Eugene Cordero’s Casey, they spot two universes firing missiles at each other to avoid a collision. One of these universes is confirmed to be the Fox X-Men’s Earth-10005. Things escalate quickly as 3,000 universes are about to collapse and face annihilation. In an interview with Empire, Joe Russo and Anthony Russo were asked about the importance of Wilson’s scene in Endgame: Encore. Joe replied, “It’s the most profound thing that’s ever happened to the MCU. It is the perceived end of times. Everything the TVA was set up to do is to protect the timelines from collapsing, and now they’re in a catastrophic collapse. And so that scene, I would argue, yes, has a great level of importance. I wouldn’t say that it is more important than another scene. But it is certainly critical to the storytelling of Doomsday.”

Avengers: Doomsday follows the collision of the multiverse, uniting the X-Men and Fantastic Four with the Avengers in a battle against Doctor Doom. It will be released in theaters on December 18, 2026.

Avengers: Doomsday Directors on Why They Didn’t Make a Captain America Infinity Stone Solo Movie

Captain America‘s journey after Avengers: Endgame could have been much bigger. The film left Steve Rogers’ journey to return the Stones mostly off-screen. The filmmakers considered showing what happened during the mission but ultimately decided against it.

Speaking with CBR, Avengers: Doomsday directors Joe and Anthony Russo revealed that they discussed exploring Captain America’s mission. Joe Russo said, “We did have that conversation. There might have even been… I think we toyed around with an idea of like, ‘Is there a montage where he puts the stones back?'”

The Russo brothers eventually dropped the idea because the sequence required more time than a montage could provide. Joe explained, “We felt like it just played past the ending.” He added, “It seems like much more complicated than a montage could sustain. And so we didn’t do it.” Anthony also confirmed that they had considered the idea for a long time. He said, “We did circle it for a long time, that idea.”

Avengers: Doomsday will reveal Captain America’s next chapter after Avengers: Endgame

Steve’s Infinity Stone mission was necessary to return the Stones to their original points in time after the Avengers used them to reverse the Blip. This prevented the time-heist from leaving those timelines without their Infinity Stones.

The decision to leave that story off-screen meant that Avengers: Endgame moved directly toward Steve’s emotional farewell. After completing his mission, he chose to remain in the past with Peggy Carter. He eventually returned as an elderly man and passed his shield to Sam Wilson.

That ending left Steve’s life between those two moments largely unexplored. A solo story about the Infinity Stones could have shown his encounters with different periods of Marvel history while also explaining how he returned to the present after living his life with Peggy.

Avengers: Doomsday now marks the Russo Brothers’ return to the MCU. The film will arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026. The cast includes Chris Evans alongside Anthony Mackie, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and several other returning Marvel stars.

Marvel has not revealed many details about Steve Rogers’ role in the film. However, Avengers: Doomsday will continue the Avengers story and revisit the Infinity Saga.
