Invincible Live-Action Movie Gets Update From Robert Kirkman

Invincible Season 2 Split Into Multiple Parts, New Trailer Released

The Invincible live-action movie has received an update from creator Robert Kirkman.

This film has been talked about for years. It would be based on the Invincible comics which followed the coming of age of superhero Mark Grayson/Invincible and his superhuman father Nolan Grayson/Omni-Man. This comic was recently adapted into a successful Amazon animated TV series.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Superbad, This Is the End) are attached to write and direct the film, which would be separate from the animated show. The creator of the character, Robert Kirkman, has shared an update.

Invincible movie update

“With the strikes and everything, it’s all stalled, and rightly so,” Kirkman said at SDCC. “Everybody’s doing a great thing trying to make sure that future generations get to be able to work and thrive and survive in this industry. Everything’s been put on pause, but it’s something that I know Universal is very invested in, and it’s something that we’ve been working on behind the scenes up to this point. Hopefully, I’ll be able to answer this question in a more answerable way at some point in the future.”

There is no set release date for the Invincible movie.

Challengers Star Mike Faist Says Director ‘Had No Knowledge of Tennis’

Challengers Mike Faist

Challengers star Mike Faist says director Luca Guadagnino had no knowledge of tennis.

This romantic sports comedy-drama stars Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist. “Following a losing streak, the wife and coach of a Grand Slam champion signs him up for a Challenger event where he will face off against her former lover,” reads the official synopsis. This film is directed by Guadagnino, who is known for helming Call Me By Your Name, Bones and All, and Suspiria.

“He had no knowledge of tennis going into this,” Faist told Empire. “And I think he had only a vague interest in certain tennis specificities. He was more interested in the bodies and sweat.”

“What Luca’s really good at is finding sensuality and desire,” says Zendaya. “There’s so much in just glances. The tension builds. Not having the release is a good thing sometimes.” Co-star Josh O’Connor elaborated on this. “The tennis is the sex,” he explained. “Those moments are so sexy. The film is dealing with the tension before and after. The sex they’re all desperate for is on the court.”

When is the Challengers release date?

The movie is set to release on April 26, 2024.

It is written by Justin Kuritzkes. The film is produced by Zendaya and Guadagnino, alongside Rachel O’Connor and Amy Pascal, both of whom previously worked with Zendaya on the three MCU Spider-Man movies.

Jersey Shore: Family Vacation’s Sammi Giancola Reveals Why She’s Returning

Jersey Shore: Family Vacation's Sammi Giancola Reveals Why She's Returning

The upcoming return of MTV‘s Jersey Shore: Family Vacation is set to include the return of original cast member Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola, something that the actress says she’s missed.

Sammi is set to return after more than 10 years away

Giancola was an original member of MTV’s hit reality show Jersey Shore up until its conclusion in 2012. But she didn’t make a return in 2018 when the cast came back for Family Vacation. Speaking to Variety, Giancola says that she needed time to “regroup” and figure out her life.

“I needed the time to regroup and figure out my own life,” Giancola said. “I wasn’t in a good head space. I just couldn’t do the show back then. And I’m happy that I’m able to be able to come back and do it now.”

Of course, one of the biggest stories to come from Giancola’s return will be her interactions with fellow cast member Ronnie Ortiz-Magro. The pair were in a notoriously toxic relationship in the original series. According to Giancola, the pair has had no real relationship since their time together on the show.

Now? Ronnie’s just someone she dated.

“At this point, he’s just a guy I dated in my 20’s. We all go through relationships. He’s basically just a co-worker at this point,” said Giancola, before teasing that “I guess you’re gonna see how the season plays out” in regards to their first time seeing each other.

Jersey Shore: Family Vacation Season 6 Part 2 is set to premiere on MTV on August 3, 2023.

Recommendations: 5 TV Shows Like Succession Worth Watching if You Miss the Roy Family

like Succession

With Succession‘s finale now firmly in the rearview mirror, the series has been cemented as one of the best in recent memory, in part due to its approach to wealth and family dynamics. Let’s take a look at some similar series that could scratch the same itch.

Billions

Billions follows hedge fund manager Bobby Axelrod and United States Attorney Chuck Rhoades as they outmaneuver one another in the high-stakes world of high finance. The popular series has gone on for six seasons thus far, with its seventh and final season set to debut on Paramount+ With Showtime on Friday, August 11, 2023.

Stars like Paul Giamatti, Damian Lewis, Malin Ã…kerman, and Corey Stoll round out the impressive cast, throwing out sharp insults and quips like there’s no tomorrow. If seeing rich and powerful people go toe-to-toe verbally was your favorite part of Succession, then Billions is for you.

The Good Fight

Though it started as a spin-off of The Good Wife, The Good Fight grew into its own series with its own identity as it explored relevant topics from the perspective of Christine Baranski’s Diane Lockhart. After losing all her finances, Lockhart and her goddaughter start over at a major Black law firm and tackle topical issues from recent years.

The show has received rave reviews since its debut, with the sixth and final season coming to an end last November. If modern issues and politics catch your interest like they do in Succession, then The Good Fight is worth your time.

Arrested Development

One of the funniest shows ever made, Arrested Development didn’t get its due respect when it initially aired. In the years following its debut, the show hit it big as avid fans revisited it to find more and more hidden jokes and gags throughout. Following a dysfunctional rich real estate family, Arrested Development’s characters are some of the funniest to grace television, with the late Jessica Walter standing out as the best of the best.

The fourth and fifth seasons were bumpier due to the time that had passed and the emerging streaming format, but the series as a whole still stands as peak TV comedy. It’s like Succession if it went for full-on humor rather than being a dramedy, which should tell you just how great it is.

Yellowstone

Yellowstone is a series that truly exploded with popularity, leading to prequels, spin-offs, and plenty of merchandise. Following the powerful Dutton family as they clash while presiding over the titular Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. Violence, intrigue, and betrayal permeate the series, making it a wild ride for anyone taking part.

First debuting in 2018, Yellowstone is set to end after Season 5 concludes at a currently unspecified later date. If intense family drama within a powerful family is what drew you to Succession, you may want to check out Yellowstone.

Shameless

When it comes to shows about dysfunctional families, it doesn’t get much more dysfunctional than Shameless. Following the Gallagher family — led by patriarch Frank Gallagher — the series is an intense depiction of difficult family dynamics, addiction, and the working class. The Bear‘s Jeremy Allen White also made a huge splash in the series as oldest son Philip “Lip” Gallagher.

Shameless went on for 11 seasons in total, meaning there’s plenty to catch up on as your work towards 2021’s series finale. The series won four Emmy awards with 16 nominations and received positive reviews for the majority of its run.

Box Office Results: Barbie & Oppenheimer Dominate, Haunted Mansion Falters

This is insane. Greta Gerwig and Christopher Nolan continued dominating the domestic and worldwide box office as their respective features, Barbie and Oppenheimer, contributed a record $217M July weekend, up +122% from last year, according to Deadline.

Barbie led all with a colorful second weekend of $93M (-42.6%) to bring its domestic total to a massive $351M. Worldwide, the Warner Bros. blockbuster has grossed $774M and shows no signs of slowing down.

Universal’s Oppenheimer, meanwhile, likewise demonstrated remarkable staying power, earning $46M (-44%) in its sophomore frame for a $173.6M running domestic total, $400M worldwide. Again, this is a 3-hour, R-rated drama devoid of flashy effects, big-name stars, and action, folks. Very impressive, indeed.

Opening this week were a pair of horror flicks, Disney’s family-friendly Haunted Mansion remake, and A24’s Talk to Me. The former managed $24M, which is on par with the 2003 Eddie Murphy vehicle based on the popular Disneyland attraction when not adjusted for inflation, while the latter managed $10M, easily surpassing its $4.5M budget.

Sound of Freedom came in at No. 4 with a $12M weekend, increasing its domestic haul to an eye-popping $150M. That total bests the likes of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 ($140M) and is just behind Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny ($167M) and Elemental ($144M). Who saw that coming?

This week sees the release of the highly anticipated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Mutant Mayhem animated feature. Will this new toon be enough to knock Barbie and/or Oppenheimer off their perches?

Nicolas Cage Reflects on Playing Superman in The Flash

Nicolas Cage
NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MARCH 28: Nicolas Cage attends the premiere of Universal Pictures' "Renfield" at Museum of Modern Art on March 28, 2023 in New York City. (Photo by Dia Dipasupil/Getty Images)

Actor Nicolas Cage has talked about playing Superman in The Flash.

Cage nearly played Clark Kent/Kal-El in a movie named Superman Lives, which would have come out in the late 1990s. The film would have been directed by Tim Burton,w ho had previously helmed two Batman movies with Michael Keaton. A few leaked photos have revealed Cage with long hair in the full Kryptonian suit. After a messy preproduction, the movie was abandoned before filming.

However, Cage recently got to finally play Superman. He first voiced the character in the 2018 movie Teen Titans Go! To the Movies. In the latest DC Extended Universe movie, Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) looks into different universes and sees one where Superman (played by Cage) battles a giant spider, which is a scene that would have existed in the scrapped Superman Lives movie.

“For me, it was the feeling of being actualized,” Cage told USA Today. “Even that look for that particular character, finally seeing it on screen, was satisfying. But as I said, it’s quick. If you really wanted to know what I was going do with that character, look at my performance in City of Angels.”

“I was supposed (to play) Clark Kent after that (in Superman Lives), and I was already developing this alien otherness playing this angel. That is a perfect example of the tonality you would’ve gotten for Kal-El and for Clark Kent: Clark would’ve been a little more amusing, but Kal-El (had) the sensitivity and the goodness and the vulnerability and all those feelings that were kind of angelic and also terrifying.”

Where can I watch The Flash?

It is currently available for rental on PVOD for $19.99. It will land on Max at a later date.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 15 to Air Unseen 90-Minute Episodes on Paramount+

“Can I get an amen up in here?” Paramount+ will add full 90-minute episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 15 to its catalog on August 9, allowing fans to rewatch the entire season with extended content.

Apart from the extended versions of Season 15 episodes, Paramount+ will also air Drag Race Mexico later this fall.

When RuPaul’s Drag Race moved to MTV for its 15th season, it immediately drew criticism for reducing the usual 90-minute format to just an hour. This decision gives less airtime for contestants to showcase their “uniqueness, nerve, and talent.” However, after a few episodes — and following the petition from fans — the cable channel brought back the show’s customary 90-minute episodes on March 10.

Unfortunately, the earlier episodes did not receive the same treatment, which reduced exposure for iconic Drag Race challenges, including mini, reading, and maxi challenges. This also includes less airtime for the runways and the queen’s “werk room” scenes.

“You asked for it, and you got it – and we’re thrilled to deliver 90-minute episodes for all of Season 15, showcasing the joy and genius of this legendary cast,” executive producers Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato said via Variety

The extended, 90-minute version of Season 15 episodes will also give fans time to revisit some of the season’s highlights, including lip-sync battles, the Emmy-nominated “Wigloose: The Rusical” episode, and Sasha Colby’s victory during the season finale.

Who Are the Season 15 Queens?

The top queens include Mistress Isabelle Brooks and Luxx Noir London. Anetra landed in second place after Sasha Colby ultimately won the coveted “America’s Next Drag Superstar” title. The rest of the contenders are Loosey LaDuca, Salina EsTitties, Marcia Marcia Marcia, Malaysia Babydoll Foxx, Spice, Jax, Aura Mayari, Robin Fierce, Amethyst, Sugar, Princess Poppy, and Irene Dubois.

The award-winning reality competition program recently celebrated its latest achievement, having been nominated in this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards with nine nominations, including one for RuPaul in the outstanding host category.

While you wait, you can watch one of the show’s iconic lip-sync battle below:

Greta Gerwig Cut a ‘Fart Opera’ Scene from Barbie Movie

Director Greta Gerwig cut out a “fart opera” scene from the Barbie movie.

Barbie is one of the most successful movies of the year with critics and audiences. It is doing well at the box office and it stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken. It’s been praised for the hilarious comedy and strong feminist messaging at the center of it. The Lady Bird and Little Women director shared a story about what she cut with her editor Nick Houy.

“We’ve always tried to get in a proper fart joke and we’ve never done it,” Gerwig said. “We had like a fart opera in the middle [of ‘Barbie’]. I thought it was really funny. And that was not the consensus.”

“It was in the wrong place, too,” Houy said. “We need to work it into a more significant narrative moment next time.”

“[‘Barbie’] was so much more a comedy than ‘Lady Bird’ and ‘Little Women,’” Houy said. “So we were just, like, ‘Let’s put it in front of people and see how they react.’ Everyone’s different, and every screening’s different, and we’ve definitely learned, over the years, that you really have to let things have their fair chance and then act accordingly. Once you know it’s dead, you have got to get it out of there.”

Who is in the Barbie movie cast?

The film stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Scott Evans, Kate McKinnon, Ariana Greenblatt, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Hari Nef, Will Ferrell, Helen Mirren, Dua Lipa, and more.

Barbie is now playing in theaters.

South Park: Seasons 21-25 Blu-ray Review: A Hilarious, Value-Focused Collection

The South Park: Seasons 21-25 Blu-ray was recently released by Paramount Media Networks and MTV Entertainment Studios. The eight-disc box set is a solid value for fans of cable’s longest-running scripted series. From the pandemic to the return of ManBearPig, there are plenty of notable events covered over the five seasons — both within the show’s canon and real life.

It’s important to note what the South Park: Seasons 21-25 Blu-ray is rather than what some fans might hope it is. Those looking for a more premium collection filled with bonus features won’t find it here. These are just the original Blu-rays of the five respective seasons, packaged into one set with no additional bells or whistles. If you own the individual seasons, there’s no real reason to purchase this.

This also means only Seasons 21 and 22 have mini commentaries available, with no insight from creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker for the three other seasons. In fact, Seasons 24 and 25 have no bonus material at all; Season 23 has concept art and deleted scenes, at least. It’s a real shame, as it’d be great to get the creators’ thoughts on how the pandemic has impacted the show and their process — with Season 23 just being two specials and 24 being a truncated run of six episodes.

Since these are the original discs, finding the episode you want can be tricky. Seasons 21-23 are all on two discs apiece, and there are no labels on them aside from “Disc One” or “Disc Two.” Seasons 24 and 25 don’t have any labels at all, as they were one-disc releases. Unless you can recognize the art and associate it with its season, you’ll need to think about which disc you’re pulling out. These are relatively minor complaints, of course, but it really spells out what this is — a collection built around value rather than a premium one.

Nitpicks aside, there’s a lot to like here. Season 21 was a return to form for South Park, as it went back to episodes telling individual stories after Season 20 deviated into more linear storytelling. Seasons 22 and 23 were excellent, with the larger Tegridy Farms storyline getting to shine, while also lampooning everything from Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker to how the U.S. responds to school shootings. Stone and Parker have always had biting commentary, and the show’s consistent quality throughout 20+ years is quite remarkable and something that can’t be said for other long-running shows like The Simpsons.

As mentioned, Seasons 24 and 25 are shorter in length and were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Appropriately, Season 24 is comprised of two episodes, “The Pandemic Special” and the “South ParQ Vaccination Special.” Both are hilarious, and I always thought of the “chin diapers” joke whenever I saw people improperly wearing masks after watching it. Meanwhile, Season 25 had six very good episodes, with “The Big Fix” being the real highlight. It’s the best Tolkien Black episode yet and manages to retcon the character’s name in the funniest way possible.

If you’re looking to own these five seasons of South Park and don’t yet own any of the discs, then the South Park: Seasons 21-25 Blu-ray is a great value. There are no frills for later seasons, but it delivers exactly as advertised. It’s an easy recommendation for fans of the show.

Disclosure: ComingSoon was sent a copy by the publisher for our South Park: Seasons 21-25 review.
